any of you UK guys familiar with buying and getting stuff delivered straight after xmas day? I won't be able to afford a fuji till after, but remember last year amazon delivering on the 2nd of January for an SSD bought on the 26th.
Right now the final indy mogul video is a live show and it is two hours of goodbyes
don't bother with a 1.8g unless your camera doesn't have an internal motor tbh. from what i've read, whatever advantages the G has are thrown out the window with the price, weight and extra distortion at the corners
exactly one of the reasons im trying to get a 7100

is it worth it to sell everything nikon I own (d5200, kit lens, tamron 70-300) and move to pentax?
I might jump from Canon to Panasonic
I might jump from Canon to Panasonic
I work with Canons at work, but I own a Panasonic G6 If you have any questions, feel free to ask
I might jump from Canon to Panasonic
The GX1 looks great. Super portable and great image quality and can use attachable EVFs You could just keep it in your pocket all day and still get SLR quality shots.
I was looking into the mirror less cameras, like the new ones for the same of being able to bring it to places as it was compact or aim for the gh3. I like the 1080p 60fps video, I want the mirror less camera with more video options and audio inputs. Basically the gh3 in a smaller package if possible. Then I have to worry about the lenses to select.
G6 is a bit smaller, around 700 for body only. G6 is not weather sealed though, and has a lower bitrate I think. It has a mic input, but no output. However, G6 DOES have focus peaking, which is great for manual focusing video. Has 24 fps up to 60 fps. Also has some other great built in features. Gh3 is really spiffy though, but it is like 500 dollars more. It's a huge hit with video people and has lots of accessories. Lenses. I have a nikon converter, EF converter, and exakta comverter. I use a bunch of old lenses. The Panasonic 14-42mm f3.5-5.6 kit lens is surprisingly good though. really depends if you want to pocket it or not.
The G6 seems to use the lower bit rate compression of AVCHD, getting the GH3 for the sake of not using AVCHD might be worth it tbh

It's also got an APS-C sensor rather than four thirds and the 1st party lenses are just so good and well priced (I have the Fuji XF 35mm f/1.4 and the sharpness at f/1.4 is like shooting with my old Nikon kit lens stopped down it's so sharp). About to get an 18mm f/2 too. I recommend it a lot. Fuji also update the firmware on the cams a lot since they listen to community input.
used the 6D today with the 35mm f/2 IS. really really fell in love with that focal length

The retro design is a cool plus, heh. People are less intimidated and less aware of it than an SLR. [editline]17th December 2013[/editline]
used the 6D today with the 35mm f/2 IS. really really fell in love with that focal length
That body is so solid.
I wouldn't use Fuji for video primarily, their codec is pretty eh Panasonic really owns the mirrorless video segment unless you include sony's FS series but those are a different animal altogether.
That body is so solid.
yeah, but i still think i'm gonna go the 5D2 route though. it's old but still a decent camera.

I'd rather have portability than be professional looking. I think we touched on this like, last page or something, lol.
my thought has always been that having a big camera branded canon or nikon is just screaming to thieves
yeah, someone is probably better off having a big camera branded "phase one"
nothing says 'steal this' like a leica dot [editline]18th December 2013[/editline]
my thought has always been that having a big camera branded canon or nikon is just screaming to thieves
nothing sandpaper can't fix
Kind of applies to essentially every electronic or everything.
Except Pentax [editline]17th December 2013[/editline] Put your camera equipment in a broken minifridge at your house with a dehumidifier in it (no cold, sealed from elements, good temp, and has a light!). People won't check there for nice things if robbing you unless they are really thirsty Put your camera equipment in a diaper bag in public, padded and no one tries to steal diapers #yolotips
is there some DX vs FX conversion for aperture size, I hear that DX "35mm equivalent" aperture is different that what is usually listed
in terms of DoF yeah, it's basically just one stop (but precisely is 1.5x the aperture because that's the crop factor). All focal lengths are measured in terms of 35mm though, so a 35mm DX lens is the same field of views as a 35mm FX lens. but in terms of depth of field, a 35mm f1.8 lens on APS-C would give you a photo that was equivalent in DoF to a 52.5mm f2.7 on full frame. In this comparison though the FF camera would also need an ISO that is 1.5x higher, which is when comparisons become more iffy light gathering ability becomes a little skewed. f1.8 is certainly brighter than f2.7 and the light is more intense, but people like to say that FF sensors have more surface area so they collect more light in total. it's a nice theory but in actuality signal to noise ratio (gathered light and image noise) is not exactly linear like that, and sensor generations make quite a big deal. like the 16mp sony chip (k-5, nex 5n, d7000) has at least equal noise performance to the older canon 5D, showing a flaw in direct comparison theories. within a sensor generation though the comparison makes more sense (with FF cameras being about a stop better at higher ISO's, low ISO performance differences are negligible). tl;dr, if you compare the two multiply the focal length of APS-C by 1.5x (handy tip, it's the focal length plus half it's length) and the effective aperture for DoF becomes 1 stop slower.

nikon supposed to announce a new mid range 35mm f/1.8g if you shoot FX but dont wanna spend $1600 http://nikonrumors.com/2013/12/16/new-nikon-af-s-nikkor-35mm-f1-8g-fx-lens-to-be-announced-in-early-january.aspx/
