[QUOTE=garychencool;43337477]Buying a higher end body doesn't justify being enabled to buy more lenses...
Just saying.[/QUOTE]
thats not the reason why I want a new lens but okay i understand that
[editline]28th December 2013[/editline]
[QUOTE=.Lain;43337511]do you have any friends with the same model of battery[/QUOTE]
no
One time I bought a custom strap, now I take more (and better) photos.
[QUOTE=dwt110;43337171]do y'all think you should put a clear filter over all your lenses to keep the front element safe like some people do? i usually just keep my hood on all the time
[editline]28th December 2013[/editline]
also, since now I have a 7100 i can buy some glass, but im not sure if I should get accessories like a new strap/tripod/etc. before a lens.[/QUOTE]
You don't really need a new strap unless it's old or you're afraid of germs.
If the tripod you have is good enough, you don't really need another unless you're doing video or studio work.
Lenses will go a longer way.
yeah, my tripod is a POS Sakar TR-1s that goes for about $10 on ebay. I hardly use it though. its only heavy duty enough for a camera/kit lens. I think I might get a lens first since that will go a long way, but I am not sure what to get. either a 35mm f/1.8g (aka what Trogdon keeps telling me to buy instead of the more expensive lenses I now can't afford) or a 50mm f/1.8d. It might take me a bit longer to get the 35 since its almost twice as much but again that isn't really saying much when its $200 vs $120
[editline]28th December 2013[/editline]
the 35mm f/1.8g is internal focusing and has a rear dust/water gasket so i guess it will make my d7100 a weather sealed system
Having a D7100 over a 5200 means you can buy D lenses.
Is that what you mean?

well not exactly, i just have wanted a wide aperture lens for a while, but yeah i am glad I can use AF/AF-d lenses.
continuing with the battery troubles, I was plugging my charger in and the part that plugs into the charger box itself is a cable with two connections. I plugged it in and then out of curiosity I flipped the wire since there is no designated shape that says you cant reverse the wires and the charger light started rapidly flashing. does that mean anything?
[editline]28th December 2013[/editline]
and then I reinsert the battery and its blinking fine. I read online the rapid flashing means a charger/battery fault so im still confused
[editline]28th December 2013[/editline]
summed all my problems up right here

to the person(s) who said to cycle it a few times (rollprogram?), i threw it on the charger and it says its at 38% which is a good sign

You lucky bastard!
it aint luck that put $1000 in my bank account
What do people think of the D5100 as a starter camera? I know it's pretty obsolete but I can get one new with the 18-55mm kit lense for AUD $487.

I plan on keeping my a77 yeah, it would work better for AF necessary stuff. The a7 would replace my nex 5, but not quite sure what to do with that as its worth like less than $200 now. Just conjecture at the moment, I've got a ways to go before I can afford the a7 and I do like my current setup, I just want my film lenses to not be cropped.

fuck knows about the price but it's a decent camera, also look at the sony, canon offerings as well. go to a camera shop and see what you prefer the controls, menus etc on. the iq will be pretty similar between cameras at that range anyway so decide what you prefer using because you'll be doing a lot more using than masturbating over how good 100% crops look.
i called retailer
ugh fuck
[sp]they are mailing a new battery[/sp]
Is that bad?
I'm guessing you would have to pay for it?
no, unless they are pulling some bullshit trickery
thank u for keeping us posted on the situation.

how is the d5100 obsolete as a beginner camera
it's not top of the line new as can be but it's not obsolete either
dslrs age fairly gracefully
Lenses last forever
smartphones don't age well at all
so turns out sales tax is a fucker and i cant get my a7 until i sell my cam and my bike :((
sux
i dont want to sell my d3100 for 350 or something
eBay that shit
[editline]29th December 2013[/editline]
As in buy it on eBay
