im looking for a camera to film a short im planning on doing all at night. I have achieved this kind of quality with a simple sony handy-cam and some editing(by some i mean a lot) a lot of suggestion have told me that i should get a canon eos 7d. Seeing footage and some films recorded with it, plus the pricing, seems like a good option. The site im looking to buy from, aliexpress.com, sells one for 1090 usd, but only the body, and there are some lenses aside. The question, which lens should i get, for a project at night?
uhm aliexpress is a wholesale website made mostly of cheap chinese stuff and knockoffs. buy a 70d and samyang/rokinon 35mm t1.5
You've done really well with what you have, quite impressive! I would recommend a canon 650D, you'll get the same video quality of the 7D, but with a tilt screen which would be very helpful. You'll save money and have more for lenses, of which I think the sigma 18-35mm f1.8 would be the best for your needs.
cheeki breeki iv damke
fyi 7d body is $999 on digital rev and $1050 for 70d
darn gear thread got me wanting an a7. used one for a little while when i was helping some guy do video for a production and the build is so solid. i don't know if i could ever justify it at this stage though, i think my little dslr will hang in there for another while
if i sell my bike this cam is so in the bag might be able to buy a lens for it too :v:

The other lenses currently are a bit pricey, but the two zeiss lenses are supposed to be very great and close to best in class Then for manual lenses the konica 40mm 1.8 (good kinda wide fast lens), just about any 28mm 2.8 film lens you can get your hands on (contax/yashica zeiss 28mm f2 and 2.8 are best there), then any 50 is pretty good (58mm 1.2 Minolta is best, followed by konica 57mm 1.2) and I would say the samyang 85mm 1.4 is the best bang for your buck 85mm (the 85mm 1.8 and 1.2 canon FD's are good too, the 1.8 is supposed to be better than the current EF due to a certain type of glass it uses).

Don't spend the extra for the t4i unless you want to give up stable and full magic lantern support, raw video. T4i has stereo mic which is useless if you're recording audio separately or using an external mic. Touchscreen isn't super needed. You'll pretty much get the same video as the 7D but you get a nice flippy screen. Magic lantern actually works on the t3i. Unless you really need the weather sealing, faster burst rate, pro body, photography related features. For lenses starting off with the 18-55 kit lens is a good start. The Canon 50mm f/1.8 is a good lens to also get as it's only $100 and has a lot of value for your video production even though it's fantastic plastic. From there, build your kit to how you want it to be like. Run and gun? Event coverage? Filming stuff? All of the above? Either way the kit will overlap each other anyways. I can ramble on but this isn't the film/video/cinematography thread :v:

Video nerd checking in.
Be wary of M mount wide angles, lower than 35mm can have color shift in the corners due to symmetrical designs being close to the sensor. I've read a ton of reports on lenses so if you ever have a question in a specific one I can give some input on how it might fare with the a7. Also I've got some FD lenses that I don't use if you want to work something out, a 35mm 3.5 (slight separation), 50mm 1.4 (mint in case), 135mm 3.5 (stuck aperture). Just thought I'd throw it out there
What video do you do? Video nerd checking in.
I'll find out when I do it. I don't really know a singular kind of video that I would do. Reviews I guess?
It's all good man. While it doesn't personally bother me, this isn't a tech support forum. It seems that most of the stuff you're asking about in this thread can be easily answered with google, calling the manufacturer, or even simply reading the manuals. Granted, this is the gear discussion, but I think you don't need to use this thread for every little thing that comes up. I'm not telling you to fuck off (got open arms for you here) but some self-sufficiency will go a very long way if you wish to take up photography. [editline]29th December 2013[/editline] That ^ is a great post for this thread, but this on the other hand; is something you could find the answer to in 5 seconds with google.
I mostly agree but this still is used as tech support. Nothing wrong with asking questions if Google is no help or want more opinions. Also its nice to hear about what new stuff people are buying. But yeah, he was talking about that way too much and it was pretty annoying. Big deal out of nothing.
does anyone know if this is something they sell? http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=fd4_1388401664 its probably expensive as fuck but god damn that is amazing [editline]30th December 2013[/editline] nevermind, found it its $15,000 for full size and $5,000 for DSLR version http://www.freeflysystems.com/products/moviM10.php

is lightroom basically the best PP app or is there any alternative for the same price or cheaper that is just as good.
well uhhh there's Photoshop which also has RAW editing but that's gonna cost u a lot more than Lightroom
i have CS5 but I like to avoid using it because my computer is such a massive piece of shit it takes me like 20 minutes to load a 24mp raw file and then my computer freezes anytime i try to do something [editline]30th December 2013[/editline] on the down side my dxo optics 8 trial expired, but they released 9 so i can use that trial now
Lightroom is the best I've used. Aperture is aight but not quite worth the price imo.
lightroom is a really good archival and raw editing tool. you won't get much better than that from the sounds of it your computer would slow up opening a raw in any application
sold my d3100! (sorry dwt :()
sold my d3100! (sorry dwt :()
its cool, im gonna call the retailer I got my 7100 from and say they should give me a $50 store credit to them because thats how much I have to pay to clean my dusty sensor, and then i can use my $15 off any purchase over $100 card to get a 35 1.8 for like $130 [editline]31st December 2013[/editline]
lightroom is a really good archival and raw editing tool. you won't get much better than that from the sounds of it your computer would slow up opening a raw in any application
2.4ghz intel core 2 duo under the hood 4 gigs of ddr3 ram 75gb free HDD space and my favorite part nvidia geforce 320m 256mb video/graphics card
I run Lightroom and PS CS5 on a net book with 2.13GHz penti dual core and 2GB RAM
For some reason light room only imports every 25 raw images...
