it's a shame we can't have a third gender role like the "backwards" indigenous societies of america
What's wrong with gender roles?
Imagine what the average girl would be like if they didnt spend there time watching hanna montana and painting there nails. We could have had a female president if it wernt for gender roles.
If you check my post, it was in the context of the "moronic" comments posted (or something of that sort) in regards to the topic at hand, not transsexuality.
I can't see that when I read it but fair enough, you know what you meant better than I do.

You usually don't make highly prejudicial posts like this, what happened to you
i am a giraffe in a human body
where do i get a girraffdectomy
Gender roles sometimes piss me off, because my friends are shitwits a lot and make fun of me because my girlfriend is the provider, and is actually fairly dominant.
You usually don't make highly prejudicial posts like this, what happened to you
Yes I noticed when I said that it sounded kind of sexist but its not. I dont like any useless gender roles if its for men or women. I was just saying that gender roles keep people down. There are a lot of bad male gender roles as well.
I dont want every girl to be a feminist but i dont want them embracing there own stereotype either.
I jump all over people on things like this because I end up explaining them over and over and over again since people here either don't read or they have the attention span of a goldfish

people here don't want to read your horrible posts
all 21,483 of them
As a transsexual living in a conservative area I can safely say that LGBT awareness is a very good thing to keep up in schools.
Unless you want us to get beat up by immature fuck heads.
Edit: Note when I say came out, I mean I told a few friends. I didn't do something stupid.
some of you are a little bit confused on what a transsexual or gender role is
transsexual means adopting lines across gender. this isn't a "man who acts feminine".
if a man wears make-up but considers themselves a man then they are simply feminine
if a man doesn't identify with the male forms in society (ergo looking more like the other gender than their own gender) they could be classified as transsexual
in the end transsexual does refer to a specific set of conditions and mental disstress written in the DSM
the question is, what gender does that person feel close to
This topic is so ignorant and disgusting.
This topic is so ignorant and disgusting.
You think so? Seemed to me like everyone was being at least reasonably civil.
The thing about gender roles is that while they seem unnecessary in theory, but in practice many people would probably have a hard time abandoning them.

Well, yea, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be the goal we're working towards. As a side note, you have to realize that this logic applies in many ways to race as well.
For gender roles to stop existing we must begin to not just acknowledge, but truly understand that gender is skin deep. Self-fulfilling prophecy - if there's a general pressure to conform, people are going to conform. That's a big player in gender roles. They're consistent because they seem to make sense. But they don't.
Just like race, if we truly want to solve the issue, we have to understand that there is no black or white. There's merely many different people with many different skin tones.
The trouble is that as humans we use schemas to make information more accessible. This means generalizing things into larger groups. When we see a chair we don't define it by all it's individual characteristics, we simply think it's a chair.
The problem with this is evident when one evaluates gender and race issues. We can't help but to generalize, it's in our nature, but we have to stop teaching the wrong generalizations. When you see another person you need to stop thinking black or white, you need to think person. And understand that them, as any other human being, has an incredible variance in who they may be as a person, and skin color is not a determinant.
Gender is a little bit trickier seeing as we also tend to have the whole goal of mating that throws a wrench in the plans, but the same idea applies.
In short, the problem is assumptions. We need to control our assumptions in a way that doesn't discriminate.

How? You can't just make that statement and expect us to nod in agreement. What about this topic is disgusting? What about the OP is ignorant?
If you're going to make a terribly vague statement then at least explain it.
Men do have more testosterone, and are more likely to want to compete in manly things.
Define "manly things." That's where your gender roles come in because people assume those specific things are manly or feminine
the thing about gender roles is that it's not a negative thing when it comes to identification
having a gender not only means you become different from the others in a meaningful way, it also means you can feel part of something and gender roles are never limited to purely man and woman
the negatives from gender roles come when a society begins to dictate what a person should do and like accordingly
Maybe its just me, but the thought of transsexuals makes me cringe.

Lots of misconceptions with sexuality in general, and people forgetting that these are states of mind
Who cares about genders. It's about who you are.
If a man or woman follow their gender roles without knowing it, then it's not such a big deal. It's more of a problem when people are forced to conform to them or break them.

:raise: uh, who cares? Do you really think he should search far and wide for an animal that has a shitty attention span?
I just like wearing girls clothes man there's not much more to it then that
OP is dumb. You don't know what being a transgender is.
I bet you'r one of those kids who liked a kewl gurl till they found out she had a pen0r and ended up with a trauma.
Also, sorry if this has been said before, I wasn't around for days.
Wow this makes very good sense
I just like wearing girls clothes man there's not much more to it then that
I think the point is that by saying you like to wear girls clothes you're enforcing the way people think of 'girl clothes' and thus enforcing the gender role that any actual born girl who does not like to wear 'girl clothes' is considered a butch, creating a cycle that leads nowhere except people feeling they can't be themselves
I dream of being a house dad. I have the feeling my dream will never come true.
Same because even if woman are getting more independent and involved in the work place, the idea that a man should be in the work place as well is a pervasive idea. But I've always really wanted to raise children and maintain a house. :(
It's actually one of the most terrible arguments I have ever heard.
Transsexuals did not label themselves that, psychologists did.
OP doesn't know what he's talking about in 70% of the post
At least his ignorance isn't spawning inflammatory comments like most of the homophobes in In The News though, bonus points to you for that
Some gays, or bis, but especially you need to realize that not everyone who isn't OMG I agree with everything you say is a homophobe. That's very hypocritical.
So why do we need to promote transgender awareness?
I would love a bigger penis, should I get plastic surgery then label myself as a "megapenisexual"?
Should we have a "Nose job awareness day"?
This is a pretty insulting thing to say. If you're going to come up with "theories" you should probably stick to stuff you're familiar with instead of equating the experiences of transgendered people to your own insecurity.
The only thing about transsexuals that annoys the fuck out of me is when one of your long time friends decides they're one of them. And now suddenly if you refer to them as their actual gender (saying she instead of he, or visaversa) they bitch and take offense to it.
For fucks sake, why can't you get over the fact that we all don't get to be what we want to be when we grow up? None the less, you can't "become" a transsexual, so you missed the boat on what gender you're referred to as when you decided it was okay to be called a "he" for all these years.
Can people not understand how confusing or annoying they make things by demanding such a thing?
not that hard to add an s dude.
