So basically your saying I should get fucking high to get over my PTSD?
Psychedelic psychotherapy is administered by an actual clinician, it isn't just buying some acid off the street (though I suppose you could potentially self-medicate in this way, but that's not how the therapy works).
Basically, the therapist has a normal session with you, while you're tripping absolute balls. It's not really new research, it's just stuff that hasn't seen much action thanks to the war on drugs, but is actually slowly coming back into style and more research is being done - the results are impressive. It's effective in treating a very wide variety of disorders, ranging from PTSD to depressives, to nonviolent psychotics and even alcoholics (it's the one of the only treatments of alcoholism with such a high success rate. No it's not successful because they "find a new vice". Yes, that was already thought of.)
I don't mean to advocate psychedelic use so forwardly, I just like to inform people that it is actually an option when it comes to treating some disorders, I don't enjoy the suffering of others.

So basically get high to get over the PTSD whilst not knowing what your going on about.

I seriously dont see how that will work if you are likely not to remember what you were going on about.

Do you understand how psychedelics work... at all?
They're not giving you DXM for fucks sake, they give you a premeasured dosage of LSD, typically.

Tripping balls doesn't imply you'll remember nothing. Plus, that's why your therapist is there; to listen to what you say or try to do.
[editline].[/editline]
What you're basically saying there is that I will have partial memory loss if I were to drink half a bottle of Jager. I wouldn't - alcohol doesn't cause memory loss unless you fuck up big time in terms of what you drink (Or simply drink far, far too much). Psychedelics generally only cause memory loss if you start mixing them, and (iirc) having high amounts of caffeine beforehand.
[editline].[/editline]
After a quick google, there's a class of psychedelics that cause memory loss amongst other things:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dissociative
They wouldn't give you any of those.
Yes, dissociatives. DXM's one of them. Those are not to be fucked with, those are absolutely not for the weak of mind. Speaking from personal experience here. Dissociatives are NOTHING like psychedelics.
SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCES: ANTI-DEPRESSANTS
I'm going to start taking daily doses of Sertraline (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sertraline), and I've been doing some research on the medicine. For those who don't know what it is, it's an antidepressant. According to the doctor, I need to take half a pill each day, and I'm more or less scared shitless by the side effects. I'm going to post in this thread about how I feel the first weeks of treatment, and I want you to share your relation with this kind of medicine.
I used to take those~
[Following is assuming that you will react just like me, which is probably unlikely]
They're nasty to swallow, and you'll feel ill if you miss more than one day, and start to lose balance randomly and feel dizzy if you wait more than that. Generally when you start out they'll make you feel generally uncomfortable and restless, physically. Same goes for when you quit it.
They told me that alcohol would be like, twice as potent while I was on Sertraline, but it seemed to work the other way around.
Side effects other than that, I never noticed any.
And as for the anti-depressant effect, it'll be hard if not impossible for you to judge whether the effect is there or not.
Also be sure not to take any that have passed the expiration date :v:
I once did that when I started again, I didn't realize the pills had been laying around for a long long time. Basically I felt so dizzy, off-balance, sick, restless and uncomfortable that if I sat down I would be close to fainting. I was pretty much forced to run/jump around being hyper as fuck just to negate the restlessness. That was actually a really good day :v:
I actually feel pretty proud of myself for getting out of my depression without touching anti-depressants.
For those going through it, good luck, and my warm regards to you.

Were you self-diagnosed, or did you see a physician?

then you probably weren't experiencing a major depressive episode.
but to the OP
It's going to seem worse at first, don't go to your Doctor to ask for new medication. The medication will work and your Doctor does know what they're doing (most likely), it just takes a bit for it to get into full effect.
Also OP when you feel like you're "cured" and you get the bright idea to stop taking your medication because you're "cured" don't stop taking your medication. That just means the medication is working, and if you stop taking it there's a high chance you'll relapse into your depressive state.
I take Fluoxetine (Known as Proxac) and it really helped. It lifted alot of my mind and made it easier to fix things. To many people think the pills will make everything better. They do assist but you have to try and do things to help yourself.
I take bananas, works well.
Really wasn't for me, stopped taking them after 2 weeks.
Fluoxetine. Two pills a day. at this point not sure of how it's affecting me but ever since i have been taking this amount my life has been pretty much better overall.

Same as me :) They work pretty well.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Escitalopram
1,5 Pills per day, the first week or so I was very tired and had some headache, but after that lifes been much better.

Don't stay on it for a long time, you'll develop a dependence.
I really want to try anti-depressants, my parents were going to get me some after they found out I was self-harming but then just forgot...
I have tried citalopram, fluoxetine, sertraline, venlafaxine and mirtazapine. I haven't had any side effects. Only bad thing I guess is other doctors don't take me seriously when they see I'm on antidepressants, which is bad since I have a lot of physical problems that I have yet to get diagnosed. Other than that, you shouldn't worry too much (although if you do get any weird side effects, be sure to tell your doctor).
Man, you got fucked with the worst of the worst. Hate hearing about those unfortunate enough to constantly be given bad meds.
You're probably right about the ADD thing. It's more of a youth thing I think, parents getting their children prescribed to dumb bullshit like ritalin because he can't sit still. He's a fucking kid, OF COURSE he's going to fidget.
Exactly, "Oh, Johnny doesn't want to pay attention in class? he'd rather go play? He needs medication."
