The estimated delivery date for mine is the 14th May :(
30th :(
30th :(
16th :(
of april
:D
How are you guys ordering this? I went to Newark and I just said that I could register my interests.
Oh god the wait for 3rd of April is going to be a long one.
At least I can try to engineer different power systems while I wait
Ideas so far;
Mini Nuclear reactor
Steam Power
Piezoelectric transducers in the soles of your shoes.
Hamster Power
Anyone else? :v:

1) Create an aluminum foil pinwheel.
2) Paint one side of each blade black.
3) Use the pinwheel to turn a fridge magnet within a coil of wire.
4) ???
5) Profit!

They are doing the ordering in batches - you have to register your interest and eventually they will let you order it.
I registered my interest the day it came out and got an email a day or two ago asking if I wanted to order it.
These retailers are horrid.
These retailers are horrid.
they've been swamped by demand
apparently since release, there have been 700 ordered per second
this does not make them a horrible retailer, no other products have ever been ordered in such demand
My order was on back-order before, but now it's processing.
I have no idea what that means, the descriptions at the bottom of the page aren't useful.
"Your order is being processed" is not helpful.
Damn.
At first I had figured the original 10,000 would at least last until morning.
Nope.
5 minutes.
5 fucking minutes.
Those sold so fast it made my head spin.
Sucks, I guess I'll wait until they get more sellers for these. By the time June comes around, they may have found a way to get more out. Not sure. Can't wait to finally get one though.

Some Chinese company is probably already designing a clone :v:
The wait should not be long at all.

Well it's certainly been proven there's a strong demand, So it's inevitable.
Just a matter of time now.
If the clone is cheaper I'm getting the clone

Again, you sacrifice quality. Chinese clone quality has not really improved in the last few years. I have an iPod Touch clone (as well as a real one), and the clone was bought at a later time than my original. You just can't compare.

These things are already made in China and quality isn't my main concern because if I see shoddy soldering I'll touch it up myself. Its not like linux is suddenly degraded by 1/2 or something.
There's not going to be any clones, at least within a year or so.
The Broadcom chip is hard as fuck to source, and because the Foundation is a charity, there's not enough profit margin to start manufacturing.
Oh, and anyone able to produce a significant amount of these could just become a licensed manufacturer, there's no need for a clone system.

Can't they just source a different SoC.

But then it's not a clone is it? A clone should be able to run exactly the same software for it to be actually any good.

Yeah and it can because its a fucking ARM.
There's already tons of things like this, trying to clone it isn't going to work and if they're successful it's going to either cost more, or be less powerful.

what do you mean 'isnt going to work'

We're dealing with bare electronic PCBs here, they're not your usual electronic knockoffs. Just compare the "authentic" Arduinos with the Chinese clones, they are pretty much identical and functions the same.

Off topic question but why did you change your name to "bye"? Been wondering for sometime now.
I'm sure we are going to see cheap (<40 €) ARM/MIPS single board computers from the SoC manufacturers or from the same people who make the 2 € AVR programmer
Also, there's the Bifferboard which is like a Raspberry Pi but with a 486 clone
what do you mean 'isnt going to work'
You're missing the entire bloody GPU if you use a different SoC.
You can't just take the PCB and swap the damn processor, ARM's pretty damn fragmented in the end, compared to traditional x86.
It's like taking an old PPC Mac and trying to jam an IBM Cell in there, and going "hurr they're both PPC".
Just, no.
Not to mention there's no incentive to clone it when they'll probably release enough information that you can start making them on your own if you manage to source the chips.

Maybe in your experience. If you know what/where to look for, there are China tablets just as good as big brands.

Jesus tittyfucking christ.
That page made Opera it's bitch and almost caused it to crash.
EDIT: nevermind, was a ad-blocking addon going fully retarded.
Chrome with 29 tabs opened it no problem.
Also, chrome has been open for weeks.
