I got my Pi this morning! The first thing I noticed was how slow the interface was, I really hope a proper GPU driver is written in the coming months. Web browsing is pretty darn slow, though it's drastically improved if you disable loading images. As in, before you could hardly scroll down GD without the computer locking up. Now it's actually possible to scroll.
I haven't tried overclocking or anything besides installing htop, changing the keyboard layout and installing links2. I'm looking forward to using the GPIO ports for stuff, though I probably need to buy some more transistors so I don't acidentally fry something if I draw too much power.
It seems that Via's APC can be (pre) ordered. I receved an email this morning. Too bad, I already have my Pi

Lol, shipping costs almost the same as the board itself.

Has anyone tried compiling a NES or SNES emulator on the Pi yet?
Has anyone tried compiling a NES or SNES emulator on the Pi yet?
I'll give it a shot in a couple of hours (also known as when I give enough of a shit to do it).
Pretty sure they have something pre-compiled on the repositories, I'll give those a try first.
If I had such a thing I'd be terrified of breaking it.
I'm trying FCE Ultra and it's beyond unusable, and I'm overclocked to 900 MHz. I opened Super Mario Brothers 3 and it took like, 3-4 minutes for the curtain at the beginning to reach the top... I'll try a different emulator.
EDIT: mednafen works a little better, though it's still pretty slow. Here's a quick video:

An associate of mine in Holland sells these
An associate of mine in Holland sells these
He probably sells them for 100€, he's an ass.

That not being an ass, it's making money. If you want to have it now, pay the 100, or pre order it and get it in a few months.
Finally got mine, I'm surprised at how fast RS Components ships it once you order it. Installed OpenELEC on it and managed to watch a few 1080p movies, it's a little choppy at the first 2 minutes but then it's really smooth. I also ordered a case from https://www.modmypi.com, can't wait for it

If you look at the goal if the device, then yes, it's being an ass.
but if you look at the current availability of the device, it's fair
I think he's an ass anyway though, because right now there should only be one per person, not enough to set up a resale.

That's my point, I understand that market wise it's fair.
You're better off buying a 90 dollar tablet from dealextreme with better specs, they have HDMI and USB like this, and includes an LCD and touchscreen!

It technically takes another person's reservation so not quite
The GameBoy version of Tetris runs great in gcat's emulator that he ported from Android.

Not sure if I should resurrect a thread this old.
I received my Raspberry PI in the mail a few days ago. I've being trying different things on it since. I really love the potential of this device. I just setup a lighttpd web server a few hours ago.

Got mine on pre-order as soon as the new batch came out. Can't wait

Why would you tell us the SSH port and give us the root password?
Port 22 isn't even open, you lie!
Ben Heck got his hands on one and made a retro computer out of it: http://revision3.com/tbhs/retro-computer
Mine finally shipped yesterday, apparently. Whee.
No idea what I'm going to do with it, though. :v:
XBMC runs great on the Pi after overclocking it to 900 MHz. Out of the box, DVD rips in AVI (Not decoded by the GPU as far as I know) actually plays fine. If I can get my Xbox DVD remote working, it may replace the Xbox for XBMC.
XBMC plays things great, unless when I have samba running, which is like, always :/
I use a different computer to download things but the HDD is connected to the PI so samba is constantly being used to access and put files on the HDD, gonna try overclocking later to see if that helps.
I got two of my 4 Pi's two days ago, but I can't really figure out what to do with them yet, however I already found the Anonymous RPi Owners in my City so I should be alright.
Overclocking to 900Mhz didn't help, still stutter thanks to samba :(

I have my home server (Running Ubuntu Server) do all the downloading and file serving. I was thinking about installing Xorg on my server and trying out X11 forwarding, If it's smooth enough, the 2.93 GHz Core 2 Duo in my home server could doing the heavy lifting for say, Chromium while being displayed on the Pi.

That's exactly what I'm doing, except that I use samba and that the HDD is connected to my PI instead of the ubuntu server machine.
