A few questions...How long does it take to ship on average? What have you guys done with them? I was thinking an SSH tunnel, web server, file server, or something else... What do you guys think? Also, when programming it (C/C++ in gcc), is it any different than a desktop? Thanks!
Mine took a week to come from Farnel, I have done nothing with mine yet as I am having troubles with the SD card I bought. Unless you have a real reason you want to get one then I wouldn't get one, once you get over the initial shock of how small it is, there isn't that much you can do on them. Once I had bought mine £27 I then had to pay for the USB power cable which was about £1, a HDR cable £1-£2, a mouse and a keyboard £7, an SD card class 4 4GB £4 and then shipping which was £5. So in all it cost me £46 which isn't bad, but those extra things that you do actually need can mount up unless you already have them handy. Also it can't be run directly from most USB ports on your PC as they can't deliver enough power, not even the Ipad wall charger will power it. Here's my pretty nifty case though. -EDIT- Holy shit batman, that's a huge image. Here's a smaller and better quality one

They make the picture smaller for you. I switched back the Raspberry Pi running RaspBMC to the Xbox running XBMC since the Pi would freeze about four or five times per episode of The Walking Dead. I don't think it's the power supply, since it's an OEM Samsung that came with my Nexus S. I doubt the Xbox IR sensor takes that much power...
What's the fastest place in the US to buy one?
Ordered from Newark on the 3rd and it shipped out today. If you want a Pi ASAP in the USA buy from Newark. They have more coming in the 7th as well. I'm so excited! Hopefully it will get here Friday rather than having to wait till Monday (or maybe UPS will do Sat delivery?) [editline]5th December 2012[/editline] also get this thing its awesome
I ordered mine and a shortened microsd adapter and some legos to make a case :)
Anyone got Quake 3 running? I compiled it and it runs really poorly, even at low resolutions and low settings, my sound is also really crackley. I thought it was a power problem so I stole my brothers high quality 5v 2A Nexus 7 charger and the same thing is happening. I'm sad, I just wanted to try playing quake a little :( I'm using Wheezy (rasp pi debian or whatever) and have updated everything.
Anyone knows where I could get one of those in Romania?
i believe http://export.farnell.com/rp/order/ is the best place for you yo order.
I would love to buy one of these, but I don't know what I'd use it for.
I would love to buy one of these, but I don't know what I'd use it for.
Me too. I'd love to get one and give myself some sort of ambitious target to reach in a few years, for example make a touchscreen device out of one in a year or two but I don't even know if the information I'd need to make something like that is just out there and available to read. I'd probably be well out of my depth if I wanted to use it for anything interesting.

The Raspberry PI is a great device. Currently using mine as a server for a bittorrent tracker (7000 seeds & peers); web server; dns cache; and file server. Great performance for such a small device. Is anyone using a SATA drive with their Raspberry PI? I would prefer to use a SATA to USB adapter that has a power connection as I would like to avoid powering the SATA drive from a powered USB hub. Can anyone help with this?
Is this thing worth getting? I mean, I don't really know what I'd use it for. I figure I'd get into programming at some point, but wouldn't my Windows computer suffice?

The intended purpose was originally for parents to have a cheap disposable computer for their kids to mess with without damaging their main computer. We like it because it's a cheap computer to experiment with.
