Marvel NOW! is basically "let's take all of our more popular heroes and just change them around".
Spider-Man is now Iron Man, Iron Man is now Nick Fury, Cap is now Winter Soldier, Mockingbird is now Andrea Dworkin...
The only ones who remain free from idiotic changes meant to make those Buzzfeed Headline bucks are characters like Ant-Man and Punisher and Drax who casuals couldn't care less about, so their books end up just being cool stories about the characters doing character stuff rather than chapters where they need to try and flip the status quo or push an already dated political moral each issue.

If you want a good current Spider-Man book, grab Spider-Man/Deadpool.
Basically, it's a story about Spidey mentoring Wade (who wants to really be a hero this time) and the two of them going on adventures; the catch is, when Deadpool isn't hanging with his new best friend Spider-Man, he's working on killing Peter Parker.
It's actually really strong, there's lots of jokes and surprisingly touching moments that work quite well.
Carnage is good stuff, maybe you should try Venom: Spaceknight, as much as I dislike the Bendis design, the story is just Flash in space punching aliens and saving people.
I'm still divided about the whole Spaceknights thing. In the latest number of Guardians of Infinity, they gave them another origin, further separating the current continuity not only from ROM, but also from the original Spaceknights, and ignoring even more the cosmic continuity.
Fuck Bendis, fuck everything he has done with the Guardians, and fuck Marvel for not buying the rights to ROM. Now he has a comic in IDW which is essentially a reboot of the original story, let's see how it does.

Pre-Superior/Spider Island Slott was actually pretty good, he just seemed to start following the hate-buy rule after that.
He came up with Kaine!Scarlet Spider, Flash Venom and Anti-Venom, although they were all better written by other writers
idk how recent it was, but the civil war and spider-man character packs for lego avengers were put on pc. now they just need to release the other exclusive stuff.

Oh yeah, Slott used to be an amazing writer.
Not only on Spidey, but his She-Hulk and Batman Adventures stuff was loads of fun.
Read up until Alpha is introduced and then disregard everything else he does.

[sp]Hydra was part of the SHIELD when they put the monolith there. Hence why they took control of the ship so fast. After that there was this whole Inhuman shebang and the monolith was one of deepest Hydra secrets so it took new SHIELD a while to uncover that.[/sp]
