Those leaked Sony emails are pretty insane. Like, not to derail the thread, this is the Marvel General and not the Ghostbusters General, but she literally ousted Ivan Reitman because he wasn't going to make the movie she wanted. Reitman wanted Ghostbusters 3, but Pascal wanted "an all-female superhero movie", so she got rid of him because he wouldn't play ball and brought on Feig. Say what you want about the MCU, but at least the execs with Marvel and Disney are concerned with furthering/expanding the brand/story rather than "I WANT THIS KINDA MOVIE, MAKE IT HERE NOW."
It's for these exact reasons why I think the changes made to things like Ghostbusters, and the upcoming The Dark Tower and Magnificent Seven films- for example- are stupid and contrived.
The military has been noticeably absent lately. Like, Thor 2, gigantic black spike obliterating London. The response is some fighter jets. Did all the top brass realize it's not worth it?

They remade the Magnificent Seven? Without Yul Brinner and Steve McQueen?
Hold on, WHAT?! They remade the Magnificent Seven? Without Yul Brinner and Steve McQueen?
Comes out this September. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Magnificent_Seven_(2016_film)
You should see the Ghostbusters emails. It's astounding that someone who seems borderline illiterate made it to the top of such a massive company. But then again it's Sony, so it kinda makes sense.
More common than you would think. Far more.
Thats how you know its hers. All of her emails look like they were written by a 5 year old. Especially this Gem. [t]http://i.imgur.com/0luhOrP.jpg[/t]
VECHICAL METHAPHORICAL META KID PEEPS Jesus Christ, no hope in humanity, and certainly not Sony.
[img_thumb]http://cdn-static.denofgeek.com/sites/denofgeek/files/3/04//edgar_1.jpg[/img_thumb]
Is this a jab at Edgar or a jab at Marvel?
[img_thumb]http://cdn-static.denofgeek.com/sites/denofgeek/files/3/04//edgar_1.jpg[/img_thumb]
Edgar fucked himself over. He had Ant-Man since the beginning of Phase 1 and just pushed it off. When his ideas didn't mesh with the MCU when he finally got around to it, he got tossed.

"We sure lucked out that Edgar Wright didn't direct that comic adaptation" is something I never thought I'd be saying, but here we are.
Which is a shame because I would really loved to see a mainstream Edgar Wright comic book film (Scott Pilgrim didn't count). The thing is that the story is already pre-planned by the Marvel eggheads and there are some Dos and Do-Nots in the preplanning process. When James Gunn was approached to direct Guardians of the Galaxy, they already had a bunch of the concept art lined out for the film, thus the story was pretty much near completion and just needed slight tweaking from the director. I believe Joss Whedon said there was a bunch of executive pre-planning for Avengers 2 and the Salem director backed out of Black Panther because the director didn't have creative freedom.
i don't want to seem like an ass, but it was obvious that there would be long-term planning, and i don't see why wright couldn't rework his story to fit better with the mcu guidelines.
Ant-Man wasn't a priority to him; he dragged his feet and worked on his own stuff, which is why we didn't have Ant-Man and Wasp in Avengers like we were supposed to. Once he finally got around to it, he got mad that he had to work around everything the MCU had become and walked off. I love his work, but he gets no sympathy from me on this one. If he really cared he'd have made it when he had the chance, or at the very least adapted details of his script to fit more in line with what Marvel was looking for. [editline]17th July 2016[/editline] James Gunn proved with Guardians that you can work with the studio while still making an original film that is entirely your own.

Shit like throwing in Howard the Duck for no reason just shows James Gunn knows how to make his movie in Marvel's world and do it really well.
Ironhead Studio just leaked how Thanos will look like in an upcoming movie (Thor 3?)
Ant-Man needs a mulligan.
Thanos looks great.

In response to Sony hiring fuckwits: (ahem) As long as business decisions, rather than artistic decisions, drive franchises, we will always end up with shit movies. A true artist would never make it to the top of Sony, only business people

A true artist would never make it to the top of Sony, only business people
Id say this was more political than business. It's in a business's best interest to put out something good especially if they're putting half a billion dollars into it, they'd want people to like it so they can sell merchandise, win awards, gain reputation and make their money back at the box office. This is because Amy Pascall and Paul Fieg wanted to make some SJW mouthpiece instead of a real movie.
Of course it's in their best interests to make good movies. Nobody sets out to make a bad movie. But good =/= successful. And the people funding these movies would much prefer that the movie be successful than good.

Sony is a non profit organization
Sony was planning on doing Spider-Man 4. After The Amazing Spider-Man 3. So they could set up Spider-Man vs. The Amazing Spider-Man. Im not making this up.
And it'll end up like Batman vs Superman where they discover they both have an Aunt May and an Uncle Ben who was murdered by a robber Then they team up in a final blaze of glory
Tobey: "So how did you stop your uncles killer?" Amazing: "I uh well uhm"
Tobey: "So how did you stop your uncles killer?" Amazing: "I uh well uhm"
giving up on the focused vendetta and just fighting for justice in general was part of his character arc
giving up on the focused vendetta and just fighting for justice in general was part of his character arc
it's part of every spider-man's arc
giving up on the focused vendetta and just fighting for justice in general was part of his character arc
Having him hunt the killer for half the movie to just have it suddenly dropped and never touched on again was stupid as fuck Meanwhile Raimi's spiderman recreated the scene from the original comic, save for possibly killing the dude

It was more direct of a borderline murder in the movie. [editline]21st July 2016[/editline] Raimi Spider-Man had the uncanny ability to make people kill themselves.
I just checked, he hung him outside with a web and took off Unless you're not talking about amazing fantasy [editline]21st July 2016[/editline] I'm pretty sure I remember Tobey saying "there's no where on earth you can hide from me" too [editline]21st July 2016[/editline] Iirc it was sort of manslaughter, he punched him and the dude fell and I think it was sort of an accident [editline]21st July 2016[/editline] We remembered wrong, Peter is set aback by the fact it was his fault and in his shock he just stares, the dude freaks and backs up and falls out the window tripping over a pipe
