The things I didn't like aren't the things most people don't like about it though. I didn't really have much of a problem with the Banner/Widow thing because I read it differently, but the problem I had with it was that it was just so silly. Even Ant-Man felt serious when it needed to be.
I still think Age of Ultron was phenomenal. It was just a case of 'can never live to the hype'.
Marvel were hyping it up as the next big step in the overall plot when really it was more of a, and pardon my jargon here, limited series crossover than a part of the ongoing.

It was definitely a spectacle and I had a great time watching it. I walked out of the cinema thinking wow and then the feeling gradually faded until I realised there was almost no lasting impression.
IMO it was pretty good, but it looks weaker compared to Marvel's other recent projects (Daredevil, GotG, etc).

The first Avengers movie works best in a cinema with a crowd.
The first Avengers had the advantage of being THE crossover, and the first one at that. It had years of hype building up to it. With that factor gone Age of Ultron has significantly less flash going on.

It pretty much [I]was[/I] Iron Man and friends, Whedon didn't step out of his own playbook at any point in the movie, and as awesome as Loki is, there was no point in the movie where he was a credible threat, and Thor 2 kinda drove that home very hard. The only reason there's danger-close even present is because the heroes have their heads up their butts for most of the movie, and Whedon pulling that card twice is one of the reasons AoU is so awful.
It's just a spectacle movie, and way WAY behind stuff like Winter Soldier and Ant-Man.

i know the notion of excusing a shitty plot because it's in an action movie gets thrown around way more than it should be, but i think it applies here
ofc it's subjective wheter or not you think the avengers' plot is at the [I]good enough[/I] level, or if the action and witty banter are good enough to take your attention off it, but i do

how many people missed loki squealing right after he got bashed by Hulk in the cinemas just because the crowd was literally dying out of laugther/cheering/screaming.

The plot itself was just a plot device to bring all the characters together.
I just hope that Thanos is a real villain, there's been a real shortage of credible villains in the MCU and Thanos has been built up too long and the average movie-goer has no idea what he actually does because we've just seen him sit and brood on a floating space chair. IIRC he's also a pretty potent magician, I hope the introduction of Dr Strange into the MCU means we get some more magic and Thanos is involved.

The Russo's are writing Infinity War Part 1 & 2 which gives me hope. Alexander Pierce was a decent villain.
