I just watched Deadpool, it was pretty good imo, [sp]I usually don't laugh too much in any movies, but that "fight" with Colossus made me cry.[/sp]
I made a post in rate the last movie you saw thread, don't let that one dude ruin Deadpool for you, it was as good as I hoped and a little more. I don't even know how the movie was remotely "meme" or "random" or whatever. I was in a crowded theater with tons of people who very much enjoyed it, as well as myself. Of course there are juvenile jokes but if you let the small amount of those ruin your movie experience that much, you shouldn't have been there in the first place. Edit : Just to make it clear, I didn't want to start shitting on the guy because he doesn't like it, rather, I think he is intentionally spreading misinformation due to some kind of vendetta. I could not have enjoyed the film more, so personally, as someone who has been a big fan of deadpool since the early 2000's, I am taking offense to the fact that this guy is trying to make this movie out as the worst thing to happen to him since Waypool. It was not, at all, in fact this may have been the best things to happen to the character in a while, as long as the supposed sequels are as good as they should be if they are based off of [sp]Cable & Deadpool[/sp]
Deadpool is the cinematic equivalent of that thirteen year old boy who just found out about sex and thinks its the most hilarious thing in the world. I can say with certainty that 90% of the jokes in this movie are low brow humor of the lowest kind. And that's not to say low brow humor is instantly bad, because some of these jokes do land (mostly thanks to the MVP of the movie, TJ Miller), but dear god does it gets fucking boring the fifth time he's making an analogy to sex. There are no characters here, there are only joke machines, unnecessary and fruitless cameos or one-dimensional fuck fantasies. That's right, fuck fantasies. The female characters in this movie are a joke: Vanessa is nothing more than another 'THE PERFECT WOMAN WHO LIKES FOOTBALL AND MAKES STAR WARS JOKES and also has no relevant character traits and just accepts whatever the main male protagonist does and becomes a damsel in distress' and Angel has one line in the entire movie. There is the minor exception of Teenage Warhead and Blind Al, but the problem is that one of them's very one note (for the two good jokes Teenage Warhead gets, she amounts to a big fat pile of nothing) and the other is a double standard (it's okay for Deadpool to joke about masturbating himself every goddamn second, but when the old black lady talks about sex, it's gross! ewww pewww!11!) Maturity is nowhere to be seen, except in the character of Colossus, who gets a big fat dump in his head. He's the only adult in the movie (maybe with the exception of the cab driver, who is Indian of course) and he's there just so Deadpool can make the same 'HA HA HIS PENIS IS METAL TOO' joke over and over and so the movie can just laugh at the fact he has morals and wants Deadpool to be a better person. The movie also commits that classic mistake of pointing out cliches... and then doing them with a straight face. There's a scene where Wade Wilson remarks that he wants to learn more about Vanessa so she's 'not just an objectified Hollywood female character', but that's all she is. There's a dig in the opening credits about there being a British villain, but I'm pretty sure that's the only characteristic of the bad guy (there's this awful attempt at making a recurring leitmotif or something out of his name but it just comes off as hollow). Oh yeah, here's the big great problem behind Deadpool: for all its incessant joking (I get it, the guy does not shut up, I guess I can't blame anyone but me for walking into that one) and fourth wall 'breaking' (which usually amounts to him making casually stupid and unfunny remarks to the camera with the occasional dig at FOX's nigh-idiotic handling of the franchise), the movie's just another by-the-numbers origin story complete with a big finale that destroys everything and ends with a romantic moment. Except whilst those other movies had to create characters so that the romantic moment feels rewarding, Deadpool can just make a joke about how he's gonna have sex later. It's annoying, it's degrading to anyone who isn't a straight male (the amount of 'suck my dick' jokes in this movie makes me feel like I stepped back in time to when being gay was considered a shorthand for instant comedy and I'm pretty sure it made a transphobic joke) and it feels like the entire genre is taking seventeen thousand steps back with every minute of this godforsaken cesspool. I'll say two good things: the action scenes are interesting and capture the frenetic action of Deadpool in the comics (although like most action movies these days they border on chaotic and are almost impossible to follow) and the movie has ONE SEQUENCE where it manages to tap into the tragic nature of Deadpool's character. Coincidentally, its the one sequence where he doesn't open his mouth. I'm pretty sure if you tried to pass off this movie as the result of a youtube sketch group trying to take a crack at a motion picture, everyone would believe you. Even with the special effects, because there are MANY instances of everyone looking plastic as fuck. In the end, every attempt at character development or making this movie about Deadpool the character and not Deadpool the blight that has spread over the internet feels incredibly hollow because Deadpool (both the movie and the character) just doesn't shut the fuck UP. (The post-credits sequence is awful too. It started off as a cool reference and ended up turning into what felt like Ryan Reynolds and everyone at FOX throwing a morsel to the hungry crowds of idiotic fans who'll bite at anything regardless of quality. [sp]It's literally him saying the next one will have Cable. Fuck you.[/sp] Oh yeah, don't worry about spoilers: this is the most generic origin story you've ever seen out there. Think about every plot point that has been done before and it's in this movie. For all the winking, it's incredibly unoriginal.)
I know this review is bullshit because there literally wasn't a single suck my dick joke in the entire film. [editline]12th February 2016[/editline]
Let me put it like this. There is a box in front of your house. There's a sign plastered on the front of the box that says 'dildos'. But you look at it, and its a medium sized box, you know. You pick it up, it's not that heavy, and you can hear the sound of something rattling in there. And you're like "I know there's gonna be a dildo in there but I'm willing to take the risk and see what else is in this box". Except instead of one or two dildos, the moment you open the box you get thrown back as a jet of dildos invades every nook and cranny of your house for two hours with no pauses.
This is another stupid statement... There were quite a few moments in the film where it did take a step back into reality a bit, where jokes were put to the side to advance the plot and the villian. It's not balls in your face comedy the entire time and the pacing is very good. Your analogy in the post makes me believe you watched a completely different movie. I'd go and needless pick through all the (opinionated, but still) wrong in your larger post, but I'm on my phone and im too lazy. But mostly because I just don't want to.

This was straight up 90's "Gunmen" style exposition and placement and it was pitch perfect. If that style of presentation makes you grumpy fair dos, but you can't hate the pacing, shots and the timing, because frankly they were on the same level as the first Kick Ass or 5th Element. It was a great Deadpool movie. It was exactly what the character is and does. Pitch fucking perfect, and it has the largest set of non-seizure inducing best jump cuts of any action sequencing that's been put to film in a very long while, save for a couple janky interacting-with-CG shots. Frankly it sounds like you were expecting Agent Carter in red tights, cause it was essentially the trailers, in long form with attendant 90s soundtrack. The fact that FOX is already talking about two sequels based on one day's returns also tends to track in direct opposition to the above premise.
Wow i thought the (dedpool joke spoiler) [sp]jacksonville jokes in deadpool was just some region-based techno shit since my local AMC theaters in jacksonville has a tgi fridays right outside it. apparently not judging by people on twitter. [/sp] awesome movie tho
I know this review is bullshit because there literally wasn't a single suck my dick joke in the entire film.
[img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/KbXOdwX.jpg[/img_thumb] [editline]12th February 2016[/editline] Also, you are the second person who says my review is bullshit because a single, general example is not featured or not featured heavily on the movie and somehow that immediately translates to 'I didn't watch the movie'. [editline]12th February 2016[/editline]
The fact that FOX is already talking about two sequels based on one day's returns also tends to track in direct opposition to the above premise.
... so? I'm not in the majority. How is that a reasonable argument in any way, shape or form?
Actually, he said he would pick apart your "review" but he simply couldn't do it since he was on his phone. Frankly I would also do the same but it is so lengthy it wouldn't be worth it. Perhaps the version in Brazil is actually bad? I'm not sure since after all, I saw it in the US where it's obviously going to be the definitive version, but anyways, I digress. You just posted a poster, one of which does not only not appear as any kind of joke in the movie, was created by the marketing team to get people to laugh and go see the film, rather than entirely represent it. I saw a movie with maybe 4-5 dick/masturbation jokes and again, they didn't ruin it for me and a few of them were pretty funny, but maybe I have a shitty sense of humor. I digress however, because the movie was not defined by them and it was very enjoyable despite them, because I can look past that kind of stuff and enjoy what I went there to see.

[editline]12th February 2016[/editline] The sad thing is that the only way for me to have factual proof of my statement is for me to go back into the movie and mark down every single dick joke, and, you see, I like my money and my sanity just as it is. Of course it's not gonna seem as bad for you guys because you enjoyed it. Your experience was a pleasurable sequence of events. Mine was a bunch of hammers hitting my head one after the other, with no time to recover from each blow.
I was just saying that it's entirely possible that the version you saw was different than ours. Again, you seem vehemently angry at the film for whatever reason so i'll stop antagonizing you. I would like to know what exactly you were expecting, though.

Again, you seem vehemently angry at the film for whatever reason so i'll stop antagonizing you. I would like to know what exactly you were expecting, though.
No, it's not. Unless somehow someone changed the version, the movie I saw was the same movie as you, except there were some words in Portuguese on the bottom. I was expecting, first of all, a good movie, and considering recent Deadpool comics, I was expecting something along those lines. In the most recent ones, you've got Deadpool's humor as a defense weapon against the tragic events, but you've also got good jokes (surprisingly, I can count in one finger how many sex jokes I remember reading on the Shiklah arc) and good character moments. So, no, this wasn't a Deadpool movie. Maybe a Waypool or a Dudepeel movie, sure. But considering the emotional heights I know the character can reach, this was anything but a Deadpool movie. [editline]12th February 2016[/editline] [sp]Also I just remembered that in the first ten minutes Deadpool says 'whose dick did I have to suck to get a movie? hint: it rhymes with polverine', and then he makes a comment about how Wolverine has huge balls.[/sp] [sp]So put in 1 for the sucking dick jokes.[/sp]
[sp]"i never told anyone this before, but dont swallow." also, that wasnt the first line he said. the entire beginning is a taxi cab convo. the wolverine line was before he jumped the bridge[/sp]

He was wondering if the translation to portugese changed the jokes, calm the hell down. Its an entirely valid point because of the, y'know, language shift.
Not to pull out my English dick, but I pretty much don't read the subtitles.
Sometimes movies are subbed or dubbed, you didnt specify that. With a movie release in another country, you should probably specify that when discussing it with other people in regards to specific criticism.

I don't have a problem with someone disliking it but from what I saw, he seemed to have gone in with entirely different expectations and left very disappointed. Word of mouth matters, and from the very negative opinions to start with, it seemed a lot to me like he was actively trying to get people to not see it. I guess you can just say I was personally upset because it doesn't feel fair that people wanted this movie for so long, it came out and in my opinion was exactly what it was supposed to be, and a lot of people, not just him or the others who said it wasn't very good, have been trying to actively ruin it for fans and say "Its Waypool!!" "Its gay reddit shit!!" And that kind of nonsense. It feels like a disservice to the people who have been waiting for this movie for years and years.
Some people just don't like that type of humor. When it comes to movies facepunches opinions change about 50 times per month so I usually stay out of it. I did post my opinion though. Give it a few days and I'm sure everyone on the site will have their collective verdict. Though seems like RT and critics like it a lot.

Overall, I'd say Deadpool was "okay" it wasn't bad enough to warrant writing an essay on how much I didn't like it, or good enough to praise it. It was just "okay". In my opinion, Deadpool as a character only works in small doses, such as smaller parts in bigger events or one-off storylines. Mainly due to the fact he's just not that interesting.

I never implied you couldn't have your opinion nor any contextual lean thereof. It's painfully obvious this premise and tone simply isn't PC enough for you (and also the fact they use two verbal/action segue/ sequences to kick the shit out of modern PC comics probably didn't help), but being that it's Deadpool, and NINETIES Deadpool at that, this wasn't going to be your demographic homerun to begin with.
I haven't seen the movie yet (will this Sunday) but it appears for Deadpool it's either you absolutely love it or you absolutely loathe it with very little middle ground.

Not even kinda what I said, but continue to spit that "no one else gets this premise but me, and that's why it sucks" cause it's been terribly effective so far, right?
Not even kinda what I said, but continue to spit that "no one else gets this premise but me, and that's why it sucks" cause it's been terribly effective so far, right?
Listen up, you clearly have a problem with me not liking the movie. I can tell you it wasn't because it was "tooo PC" for me, alright? That, at least, I can say you're full of shit on. And I'm not gonna go "I love non-PC comics" or any shit like that (even though I praised TJ Miller in my review and he's got only "non-PC jokes" in the movie) because it's a stupid ass argument. If you don't like the fact I didn't think any of the jokes in the movie were funny, fine. Stop trying to come up with some kind of mind-blowing personality-revealing reason other than 'they weren't funny to me' or 'I think the plot was generic as fuck and the jokes weren't funny enough to distract me from that' or 'pointing out your female characters are two-dimensional pieces of cardboard doesn't stop them from being two-dimensional pieces of cardboard'.
