I've recently starting going to the gym with two friends(who've worked out their whole life's, one wants to join the 1000 pound club). On top of that, I'm soon going to become a lifeguard. Now they're great, but often forget to tell me when they're going to the gym, so no workout(I know very little). Can anyone recommend what exercises to do to increase my stamina.
be more specific; do you mean like cardio stamina for running? Or like conditioning/endurance weight training type of deal?
For swimming, so cardio stamina.

You could always go ahead and swim more.

Well luckily i was on the swim team for 6 years. If you want to increase your stamina, thats one thing, but then there is also swimming stamina. Swimming utilizes a different type of stamina, so to speak, partially. By that i mean, you have to get used to holding your breath, and your body has to get used to working out with a lot less oxygen. The only way to get used to that, and be able to swim more, is to swim. More.
Warm up in the pool with a 200 yard freestyle, slow, try and stretch out everything in that.
Then do sprint drill sets. Sprint a 50, drill a 25, and then wade the next 25 to the wall, cooling down. do about 5 of those.
Then just periodically increase the amount of sets and you'll be fine.

Oh and all the "if you want more cardio in the water do this" is basically bull shit. I ran cross country for 6 months, without swimming, hopped in the pool, and was still basically out of shape, pool wise. Pool stamina=/ regular stamina.
Now, regular stamina will help out, but your not gonna get that same effect without actually swimmin.
Officially back in the gym. Signed up for a place called The Zone Gym. It's a fairly sizable place, and has a proper squat rack, bench press, etc. Another plus is it is close to me.
Felt good to finally squat and bench press on proper equipment as appose to a smith machine of death.
$15 a month, and I got prorated on the down payment. Only had to pay $25 instead of $50.

Is that what makes it look like someone is flexing constantly to a certain degree?
Could anyone explain to me what muscle hypertrophy is?
hypertrophy = Hypertrophy (from Greek ὑπέρ "excess" + τροφή "nourishment") is the increase in the volume of an organ or tissue due to the enlargement of its component cells. It should be distinguished from hyperplasia, in which the cells remain approximately the same size but increase in number. Although hypertrophy and hyperplasia are two distinct processes, they frequently occur together, such as in the case of the hormonally-induced proliferation and enlargement of the cells of the uterus during pregnancy.
So muscle hypertrophy is the growth of skeletal muscle.

Your gains will be slowed but you'll still get them, it doesn't take a week to lose muscles.
