I've never had that problem, but maybe you could try some sort of assisted pullup until you can do a full one?

Maybe something like that?

If you weigh that much it will probably be a while before you can do any unassisted pull ups. They are really damn hard. As someone who just 5 weeks ago couldn't do a single pull up (palms facing away) but can now do 5 full ones, my advice is to do lat pulldown, or use an assisted pull up machine if you have one available. Remember you're aiming to be able to lift your own body weight, go heavy.

i think le gym has the lat pulldowns so ill put that down on my list.
a question for lighting weights or doing machines in general or whatever. are you supposed to try to tense up a certain muscle to isolate it?
just lift the weights, the muscles you use will tense when you use them

oh okay. i noticed while doing some machines, the bicep curl, for example, that only the area of my bicep near my elbow really gets 'sore" and for minimal time. is that normal?
doms =/= growth
Pull ups are harder at heavier weights. I remember I could rep out like close to 20 at 230. 260 is a different story lol.

soreness doesn't matter. it has nothing to do with strength or anything

You are not even load-wise close to overloading yourself. If you keep proper warmup, keep an eye on posture and exercise technique, you can keep shitting yourself for a long time at the gym using heavy weights.

Hurt yourself like for example damaging your joints, if you ask someone who's been doing it for years then they most likely have had to go under the knife
Is the twisting crunch the best workout to do for my abs/stomach? My weight is just about perfect on the BMI scale, i just want to add some 'shape'.
squats and deadlifts

85% @ 1 rm for ~5 reps is p much the best for recruiting maximum muscle fibers
[editline]5th March 2012[/editline]
or we can be silly and work til failure for no reason to recruit every single muscle fiber even though still it wont be as effective as the above mentioned rep range

Regardless of what Mr.Terry mentioned, that kind of injuries usually happen to powerlifters who are in the sport for more than 20 years, who just want to push another pound more for the sake of reaching a certain goal.
