Finally got back into lifting regularly after swim season stopped, lifts haven't gone down that much, having trouble hitting last few reps in my final sets, thats about it.
Squats were fucking amazing today though, i was shooting up like someone shoved a dildo up my ass, felt great.
I can tell im going to have trouble putting my seatbelt on with how swole my chest is from that workout

im jealous:(
Okay so just got back from the first gym workout, I have ran into an issue.
I have scoliosis and this is making doing squats extremely difficult. As in, massive pain and pressure on the lower back. So I think I am going to take a trip to the chiropractor to see if I can't find a solution.
Of course my max on pretty much everything is ridiculously low. But I didn't expect to go in and lift too much. Mostly focused on bench as it was the main core free weight lift I could do. Only could get up 80lbs.
Can't help but feel a little overwhelmed and slightly discouraged by this whole back issue and minimal starting point, but I just got to keep going.
eat your veggies and clean behind your ears
So I started weight training about 6 weeks ago, it's going good.
I try to stick to compound exercises, squats, bench press, dumbell rows, overhead press and pull ups, but I also do calf press, shrugs and wrist rolls. I'm doing calf press because I want strong calfs for sprinting and bigger calfs for when I wear shorts, shrugs because my traps are too small so the bar wrecks my spine when I do squats and wrist rolls so that I can better control the bar in bench and keep hold of stuff.
Also drinking lots of milk and having protein etc.
Really enjoying it.

Hey, I'm thinking of starting a bit of weight training after a year recovering from a pretty extensive operation as it took me from being pretty athletically built to being a skinny runt again!
I've mapped out a little weekly routine for myself but I've got a few questions for you experts. If it's to any use I'm using the 'Westside for Skinny Bastards' routine because that's exactly what I am.
First off, I'm not entirely sure how I should gage what weights to start lifting. I did some light weights a few months after my op but that was just so I didn't waste away completely. Any tips for that or is it just a case of guess work and working it out over a few sessions?
Secondly, how many exercises would a routine usually consist of? I have approximately 4-5 each day, 3 days a week. Does that sound around about 'correct'?
The whole idea behind the training is to first and for most, get back into shape. I wasted away a scary amount in size and strength this past year and would like to build it up again. I would also like to gain a little bit of mass and tone up better than I have done in the past.
Advice and tips and whatever else you feel like will be appreciated, good or bad :D

I still skate in the summer a bit, looking forward to skimboarding also. Training is great though because strength and fitness are universally useful, and the bulk is a cool side effect.
How did you know I skate?
Yea thats not even physically possible.
What is ss pp? Starting Strength ..
Go ahead and hit me with some numbers, I'd prefer to work off something solid as opposed to guess work
[editline]11th February 2012[/editline]
Ah is it Starting Strength Practical Programming?
yes
i honestly didnt even read your post , just say your height and weight and provide a picture if possible
5'11"
142lb
I don't have any pictures to hand but a brief description, before my op I was an endurance cyclist. I've relatively slim, you can just about make out my ribs and my collar bones stick out a fair bit, my legs are probably the strongest part of my body and I have a really strong core as my rehab was based around my lower spine. Hope it's enough :D

advice remains the same, ss pp, start with the bar and increase the weight each workout.

this has everything you need.
Sounds a little bit silly, but is there an alternate exercise to the Power Clean? I had an op on my lower back and although it should be okay I just want to make sure I have a few options

You could replace it with the basic seated shoulder press, or military press. Though both still don't amount to the awesomeness that is the Power Clean.
I'll give them a go to get things started and then hopefully I'll be able to manage it without being uncomfortable about it :D
where in the hell is powerclean in the pp version........................................................

WHERE????
25lbs of muscle in one year? Yes u can!
No you can't. The most the average person can gain is about a year is 5-10 pounds. No matter how good a workout is it is impossible because of genes to go past a certain point. Your body doesn't even react fast enough to add 100 pounds in a month unless you just started lifting and even then its more of you getting used to the form more then you actually adding the muscle to do it. But if this actually works and if I'm able to lift 340 by the end of the month I will buy a title calling myself a faggot.
