Any tips for keeping a grip for deadlifts? I tried 8 reps of 100 kg today, normally do 90 kg. I managed about 3 reps and had to put the bar down before I dropped it. It just keeps slipping from my fingers. Would gloves help?
So my university's gym is full, so I dont get that sweet deal of 15€ per semester to use the gym. feels bad man

Just use alternating grip when the weight is getting too high to hold onto normally
mixed grip is for phaggots, enjoy your torn bicep tendons
Snip snip did not see thread below.
Thanks. I didn't see the steroid thread when I popped into WtF.

What are these called? Straps? They look useful, but do they put a lot of load on your wrists? I have a problem with my right wrist and wear a wrist support at the gym because putting too much pressure on it will injure it again. Which has made me realise gloves and straps probably wont work for me. :/

I was thinking about this but I've never been a fan of that grip, it just looks unnatural. Are there any problems that come with doing this grip?

I've seen bicep tendon tears from very high weight with this grip but I've never had any trouble.
Anyone else been doing weighted planks?

I've been doing these in 1 minute sets, lot less boring with weight :)

I think if I'm having trouble doing reps because the bar is slipping I might use it to push out a few more reps, it's not something I would use when trying to accomplish a much heavier weight for a single rep. So yeah, cheers I might try this out though I'm going to do a little bit of research first.

How do you get the plate on? Just get a mate to put it on?

My girlfriend is studying physio and was looking at the movement of my wrists today, turns out the strength and muscle in them is lower than normal, which may be a reason for my problem with deadlifts. Apparently my grip should be a bit stronger and my pull back of the wrist (forgot the name of this movement) is pretty weak.
I'm annoyed my physio never picked this stuff up when she was working on my injured wrist, I guess it was the other wrist that has the problem and she never looked at that. I might go see a different physio about it though.
Watched the bench press video from Mehdi. Looks like I've been doing bench presses slight wrong. Haven't been going quite low enough. I lower the bar fairly low, but I didn't know it had to essentially touch your chest.
Feels like I've been doing almost everything wrong and at this point where the weight is a bit significant, I find myself deloading a bunch, especially on those damn overhead presses.
But hey, that's working out. Can't expect everything to go a smooth as ice.
that's good. Good form in the long run will benefit you far greater than a cheap increase in weight, even if it's harder mentally to reduce weigths and feel like your regressing. But, you are not, so keep that in mind.
It doesn't bother me that much. I don't have a trainer or anyone monitoring my progress, so I don't have anyone to bitch at me. I do it all on my own.
All of the people that I've seen thus far at the gym that do the same exercises do them wrong. Nobody hits parallel on squats, nobody touches their chest on bench presses, let alone bring the bar down low at all, etc.
I don't tell anyone they are doing it wrong though. If I did I'd just come off as a smug asshole who thinks he knows better than everyone else.

In my gym no one ever squats or deadlifts
Goddamn, I have to do squats with snatches, because no squat rack
This makes me a sad frog
how can a gym lack a proper squat rack? shame on them
[editline]16th October 2012[/editline]
also I emailed a short paper asking the athletic department at my university to add weightlifting as a school sponsored sport. I await their response

I dunno, we have some benches, 1 olympic barbell rack with weights , smith machine, womans barbells, curved barbells and shitload of dumbbells.
Basically curlbros heaven. The sad thing is, it's still best gym in area where I live.
well that was fast. they said they're unable to add it as an official sport but encourage me to start a club. we'll see what happens next because club sports here are serious business.

It's the cheapest i can get here. It's about 30 euros/month with pool/saunas/etc.

Hmmm, that sounds a bit limiting. Snatching it must make you a lot more tired.
Where I go (Planet Fitness...) they only have smith machines, so I just make do with those. But, they do have two totally free barbells, so I do deadlifts totally free with no guides and shit. But since they have nothing even remotely close to a rack, I can't even attempt to do squats or overhead presses unless I want to snatch them and make shit complicated.
Working out at budget gyms sucks.

I know that feel.
And yes, with snatches i have to work with lower weights so i wouldn't get tired so soon.
But lemme ask you, how you can't do ohp? Ohp requires only the barbell
