I would much rather have a strong core to protect my vitals and my spine than be a baby back bitch that has abs that aren't worth jack shit.
it's not good because you're gonna get fat, unless you're barely eating anything else

it's like this

Great! You look exactly the same, just 20 lbs heavier and stronger. Also, is a gallon of milk what, 140, 150, grams of protein? Not worth it.
I still don't see the harm myself.
I'm not going to get irreversibly fat from it. I'd lose the fat so quickly that it's worth it just to support muscle gain the little bit that it does.

You can have a strong core and a slim waist, if you're implying you can't. I probably read this wrong though.
Any advice for cutting when it comes to weights? Do you just drop the weight and increase the reps?

no stick to your normal
just do a lot more cardio than normal

intensity must be kept high and volume low. Occasional glycogen depletion workouts would be a great addition even though volume must be kept low for the most part

No. Very abstract.N
why does everybody say this
you can put on muscle without going up 2% in bodyfat every week you know
Ive been toying around with adf, if, eod and studies so i could achieve a 365 day maintable bodyfat while gaining. Although a nice premise, its unrealistic for optimal growth patterns. Some will have abs, some wont. Unless uve got the genetics or drugs theres simply no proven way achieving worthwhile progressive size gains without being constantly at surplus levels.
One, I don't understand what your point is, and you don't have to get any where near that fat (like in the picture) to build muscle.
And two, 150g of protein isn't overboard by any means. 1-1.5g of protein per lb of body weight.
One, nobody said that you do. Depends really
Two, thats a range that is based on observation while taking in account bf levels. If youre under nine precent then u could include bf, sure. Other than that a natural trainee under three years could get away with that number easily.
Also, by average trainee i mean the people of this forum
no stick to your normal

That doesn't sound right to me man, I don't want to be burning more calories I'm taking in and then tear my muscles up, I'm just going to lose a heap of muscle.
theres no point in lifting if you get unaesthetic

Shut up
Many people including myself lifts as a hobby and for the strength it gives, not aesthetics
might be useful to add to the OP or something, its basically the guy from 5x5 explaining the workout

My mind has been blown.....at least I caught this somewhat early on and only after about 1.5 months of training 5x5. Instead of doing BARBELL ROWS, I've been doing DUMBBELLS. And not rows either.
Not sure how I misread it as dumbbell after all this time. Not that what I've been doing with the dumbbells is bad, but I suppose I've been missing out on not doing barbell rows.
perfumly i saw ur pic on /fit/ the other day. mirin.
but i can see his point in lifting for aesthetics. its shallow as fuck, but aside from the endorphine rush, confidence boost and strength gains, i also lift somewhat for aesthetics.
everyone lifts for aesthetics to varying degrees
yes even fat powerlifters. Powerlifting culture admires being large.

Sure, you might have a stronger core than the average guy but it's nowhere as strong as someone that trains for strength rather than to have abs so that all the shallow bitches can swarm over him.
but shallow bitches are where its at ;D
specially if your abs are actual pokey-out abs and dont just look like they were drawn on

Maybe. I prefer to stay pretty lean myself though. I do pilates every week which helps strengthen my core muscles a lot, apparently I have really strong core and pelvic floor muscles (good for sex).
Spot on, Kab.
I honestly don't care why you guys lift as long as you suck my fucking dick when I need it..
faggots
i lift heavy but i also cardio every other day to keep my bf% low will i still gain muscle mass or is it inevitable that i have to bulk and look like a fatass for a while then cut to actually see muscle gain?
i eat as much brotein as possible, but i keep a lookout on my carb/fat/sugar/w/e intake, nothing strict though
I wish I had the problems you guys have with eating. I've sort of stabilized to the 96-99kg region while I still need to lose 15 kgs at least (even if I've already lost about 25 kgs).
I think I'm pretty in tune with my body, I've made some nice gains over the last couple of months and am still looking fairly lean.

There's no way. Sorry.
Tren + Test though....
but harvey
there has to be
If you insist.....
Currently there's no reliable data suggesting protein synthesis that occurs on workout days would suffice and produce OPTIMAL size gains if you use high carb/low carb days. Simply put, unless you're genetically gifted, all the different approaches towards maintaining bf levels and obtaining optimal size gains throughout the year (i.e IF, EOD, ADF....) are not plausible.
Does any of you guys do functional workout? I just picked it up to strengthen my core and it's really damn effective.
is there a workout that isn't functional towards a goal... ?
is there a workout that isn't functional towards a goal... ?
Well it's a kind of training where you use your bodyweight most of the time. Like TRX and core exercises. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Functional_training)
How do you guys do the bent over barbell row? I notice mehdi makes a point of always lifting it off the floor on each rep, but everywhere else (and at the gym) the guys seem to have a higher angled back and lower the bar to their knees like this? Is there much difference between the two? I actually find the latter easier because my flexibility is shit, but just want to know if I'm going to injure myself doing it that way.
Snip
Pendlay rows are far superior in terms of stimulating the midback because the arms are perpendicular to the floor completely in contrast to a regular row which stimulates (and with some overpowers, like me) lats more.
With this program I would say the regular rows would do.

Oh that's actually really informative, I didn't know they were actually a different row.
Thanks man, I'll stick to standard
