[QUOTE=Swebonny;48151533]It's a shame they are gone.[/QUOTE] Is falling back to shitposting when you can't come up with a counterargument a standard procedure?
Wait ratings are gone? Or only on SH? Apparently not here.. Why again? I'm sure the specific reason was mentioned here somewhere but.. fuck.
[QUOTE=Awesomecaek;48151539]Good luck skimming any thread about transgender issues that grew out to five hundred posts overnight (and which you suggest is meant to have even more now if people are meant to make posts when trying to convey trivial opinion).[/QUOTE] the good thing about threads about transgender issues is that once you've read one, you've read all depending on weather it's positive or negative, fp either says "that's great!" to a something positive, or "what a fucking load" to a negative one, for about 100 pages, until some bold motherfucker comes in, says something against transgender people, gets a bunch of dumbs, a ban, and a bunch of replies of people telling them that they're wrong
[QUOTE=Bat-shit;48151555]Wait ratings are gone? Or only on SH? Apparently not here.. Why again? I'm sure the specific reason was mentioned here somewhere but.[/QUOTE] Somebody thinks it's an effortless way of improving the posting habits on SH.
Why in this thread not closed since it doesn't matter what anyone thinks should be changed?
I can't wait for the flood of, "I agree." posts because people can't express that agreement with the click of a button anymore.
guys just think about this for one quick second: what has arguing with the mods ever got us? banned? blue member avatars taken away, and then brought back with more restrictions?
[QUOTE=Awesomecaek;48151549]Is falling back to shitposting when you can't come up with a counterargument a standard procedure?[/QUOTE] Calm down, just banter. Edit: Like why is it okay for ForgottenKane to imply that I have no life and then go full wiseadd mode, but when I do it it's bad? :(
[QUOTE=gastyne;48151574]Why in this thread not closed since it doesn't matter what anyone thinks should be changed?[/QUOTE] because this thread is not about ratings, it's about making facepunch better, and was up until a little bit ago it'll revert back to normal soon enough

Transgenderism might be a too polarising and extreme topic but there's many ones where people end up actually surprised with the ratings that show up. And even then this shouldn't be about that and the point stands. Keep in mind not everyone is a weekly visitor and finding out about even the more stable and reoccurring trends might be interesting to newcommers.

[QUOTE=Sand Castle;48151577]guys just think about this for one quick second: what has arguing with the mods ever got us? banned? blue member avatars taken away, and then brought back with more restrictions?[/QUOTE] You can argue with me all you want I swear I wont ban. :tinfoil:

Sometimes it's for the best yes, but sometimes its legitimately pointless or not well thought out.
Has there been any discussion about removing negative ratings and keeping positive ones, throughout all of FP?

[QUOTE=Sand Castle;48151608]i don't think it's fp hivemind stuff, it's more just the demographic most people on fp are left winged, or at least socially liberal. it's not hard to predict fp's reaction if you know what the issue is[/QUOTE] I remember times on FP where for instance specifically transgenderism was something far less openly supported (and viciously defended), the (voiced) opinion was negative. That change alone was very interesting for me to watch. And as far as average left-wingness goes, that's just how majority of the demographic - western European and American youth mostly are, but again, the swings of mood and general opinion are beyond that and far more variable and less predictable.
[QUOTE=Keychain;48151576]I can't wait for the flood of, "I agree." posts because people can't express that agreement with the click of a button anymore.[/QUOTE] The whole point of creating ratings in the first place was so people would stop posting this kind of shit. There's a billion ways to say 'I agree' but all are rendered mute when there's a single button that says all of them without having to post.
[QUOTE=Roll_Program;48151644]Has there been any discussion about removing negative ratings and keeping positive ones, throughout all of FP?[/QUOTE] Don't want to hurt someone's feelings
[QUOTE=KillerJaguar;48151655]Don't want to hurt someone's feelings[/QUOTE] Freedumb of expression!!!

Bring boostar back and make agrees and disagrees cost $0.01, funnies and dumbs cost $0.05 and winners cost a $1. Call it a social experiment gauging how much do people value their opinion.
[QUOTE=Keychain;48151576]I can't wait for the flood of, "I agree." posts because people can't express that agreement with the click of a button anymore.[/QUOTE] I really doubt this is going to happen. Let's see how this will pan out. Currently not many new threads have been made with ratings completely disabled throughout the thread.
This brings fond memories of the time you could [img] tag the link for ratings and throw it under OP of some very frequented thread and get people hella confused by everyone is agreeing with your horrible post or some poor overly sensitive sod completely miserable by bombing them with disagrees.
I still believe there's some value in "gathering data" (take that as you will) through ratings, even in SH.. especially on SH. Perhaps only allow ratings in the OP? Seriously. As for other good reasons for ratings in SH, I'm not sure if I have any. People like ratings? Sometimes even too much; I guess the [I]"I don't understand the Funnies here"[/I] has happened too many times in SH.
Hahaha, was that intentionally? [url]http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1089075&p=48149825&viewfull=1#post48149825[/url]
more horizontal avatar space would be nice

I'd rather just see how this pans out before calling for them to come back. If there is a legitimate reason to bring them back in about a month that outweighs everything else, then bring them back. Somehow I feel there sort of won't be, though.
i'm predicting that nothing will change
