I don't. Tell me more, grandpa.

it was like custom forums but one large thread in a groups menu instead of a custom forum
Has the ability to rate been removed from Sensationalist Headlines?

ratings are totally stupid at times.
Also, at one point quite long ago, Facepunch had a TON of little custom community sub forums. Is that out of question? Something a bit like *whispers* subreddits, with the people establishing them being themselves responsible for moderating them.
The whole places could still be held for certain standard (obviously, mainly legal), and if some particular ones turned out to be infeasible or their "minor mods" inept, they could be simply closed down and banned.
It would resolve the issues with places like Creationism Corner and maybe even SH.
to be honest Im' not sure that would be that good of a thing
I mean, I don't know, I just remember the custom subforms being never used almost
some had the content of 1 thread
Considering I'm fairly sure we lost most of our subforums for server reasons, the ability to implement custom forums seems even more farfetched of a proposal.
-snip-
Custom subforums were barely used, at best, and actively slowed down the pacing of the rest of the forum as a whole by encouraging users to migrate to tiny little exclusive communities to discuss things instead of hanging out in the more general forum categories with a bigger crowd. They just didn't work out well.

these days everyone basically just hangs out in chat threads -- it's kind of the same thing but with less to work with

But with more visibility, traffic, posting, and ease of moderation.
Creepy revenge fantasy posts in SH should be bannable. The sort of stuff after a horrible murder happens and a bunch of super angry grr people are all like 'THEY SHOULD BE TORTURED TO DEATH' 'HOPE THEY GET RAPED IN PRISON' 'GRR IM SO ANGRY CUT THEIR DICKS OFF'
the report button works so long as you do
Speaking of reports, could we have more options? Or at least split Flaming and Trolling up?
Speaking of reports, could we have more options? Or at least split Flaming and Trolling up?
Or just get rid of the options altogether. The mods are clever enough to see if it's ban worthy without being given a reason.

Well they certainly worked out better than just having everything thrown into GD. There were some nice threads going in Maker Mates and the Airsoft forum that are just completely dead now.
FYI forum layout is being discussed again now that we've had an opportunity to see how the changes from a few months ago are panning out. Still brainstorming shit, but Randall's prolly gonna be busy for a long time. Hope you're getting paid for this!

I've seen this suggested many times over the years, and the mods always respond with the fact that it will make reporting users less effective, not more.
AFAIK, a post needs to be reported for the same reason multiple times for it to appear in the mods' ticker.
Like Leestons just suggested, I believe that changing it to a simple "report post, yes or no?" would be a much better solution.
Can we just change the report options to have 2 options:
Report and Cancel

Oh neat! Is it okay that you share some of your brainstormed ideas?

The reporting system works just fine, as long as people are actually reporting things. I'd prolly be on board for removing the report reasons altogether too, since we go and check out the context of reported posts anyway unless they're blatantly fuckin' up, but it ain't that big of a deal for us. Don't stress the report reason, just give your best approximation.
I still don't get why we don't just replace the report reasons with a simple "Are you sure Y/N" prompt.
It's clear, it leaves the judging to the mod(s), it takes little-to-no extra work and above all, I guarantee you there's a ton of people that don't report shit solely out of fear of choosing the wrong reason, regardless of how often it's explained.

Pretty much this. But like I said, there'll always be a group of people that'll get confused by the reasons no matter how often you say they don't matter.

can you vaguely talk about what seems likely? bringing sections back? 3 columns?

Every forum will be deleted, and the site reorganised into "Garry's Mod", "Rust", and "Other"
I like having the different options as it gives us an idea of why they were reported at a quick glance, even if it's vague.

What, so the "big changes" you promised to happen in 2-3 weeks months and months ago are finally maybe probably not happening now?
Although it was kinda funny to see you say that, everybody calmed down and respectfully waited, and then absolutely nothing happened.
Any hints at what you're thinking about with this round of potential changes?

If nothing else, at least restore the CC. Those guys deserve their subforum back.

No ratings, no avatars, everyone's name is a number based on registration time. Forum consists of a single "General Discussion" and the color scheme is grayscale.
[editline]9th July 2015[/editline]
Also only permabans, and instapermabans for dissent

Refugee camp becomes concentration camp and no posts critical of the regime are permitted

I don't want to get ahead of myself just yet. We're discussing some pretty big changes and I don't know exactly how far we are able or willing to go at the moment. The general concept of it is thread-filtering with interest tags to take the place of lots of little subforums, though. Don't expect this to happen today or anything, though. Rambo's got a long list of suggestions to work through.

No, the "big changes" I talked about several months ago are what we are refining now. We didn't have the resources we needed to usher those in (namely, a dedicated web developer), and now we do. I was just confused about the timeline, which is why I need to learn to keep my Big Dumb Mouth shut about timeline estimations!

Remove ratings, avatars and usernames, but add unlimited-height signatures.

AA is a weird thing, it's too big and complex for a megathread, but a dedicated forum for it is overkill.
Guess if something like Maker Mates were returning it could be thrown in there, maybe make it a 'various hobbies' subforum, where those and weightlifting&bodybuilding + firearms and similar would belong?

Define tags. Any tags that you want to type, or a restricted list of tags?
Because, using the SH idea proposed earlier, tagging your thread with "game" or "politics" or whatever to allow a user to immediately remove all non-related threads without creating a subforum seems like a good one. Could help deal with GD's clutter too.
