On the topic of notifications if there's a quote of you: does the ticker notify you when you're mentioned? Or is there some way to actually track that client-side? Cause if not then it'd be pretty difficult to do otherwise.
Couldn't it be possible to tag individual posts? Make a [pun], [humor] tags and make it possible to filter all posts with these tags and any posts quoting them. If somebody didn't like puns and epic zingers in SH, they could just filter them out.
Having a list of tags by subforum might work. Games Discussion? Have alpha, beta, kickstarter, FPS, Adventure, Action, etc tags. General Discussion you could have music, tv-and-movie, general-chat tags. That sort of thing. The reason why I say that it could be restricted is because that would make having a simple menu of the common tags to select somewhere on the main page of the unsorted subforum could streamline things without getting into the area of minor variations on the same general tags.
Define tags. Any tags that you want to type, or a restricted list of tags? Because, using the SH idea proposed earlier, tagging your thread with "game" or "politics" or whatever to allow a user to immediately remove all non-related threads without creating a subforum seems like a good one. Could help deal with GD's clutter too.
In essence, yeah.
In essence, yeah.
Ok, sounds good, that would probably address what people have been asking for. Now answer the first part of my question because I care a lot about that for some reason. Although maybe having a mix could work. Have the big common tags and then allow for more specific tagging via user input. I'm probably just overthinking it though, people probably wouldn't make the tags get too cluttered. I'm thinking it from a convenience standpoint with the common tags being listed for quick selection as stated before.

The proposed idea is to basically just to have a personal ticker that saves information related to you until it's cleared. Haven't heard back from Radar about whether or not this would be easily implemented, though.

Or is it like absolutely necessary that we be viewing it?
Ok, sounds good, that would probably address what people have been asking for. Now answer the first part of my question because I care a lot about that for some reason
I can't, because we're still workin' out the specifics. Personally, I'd prefer predefined tags that cover broader categories. Like, Television, Movies, Photography, Music, etc. Seems a bit more intuitive than having a dozens of much more specific tags.

For the broad categories and the amount of traffic each one gets, I feel it'd be over kill to have more sub-divisions beyond those general topics.
Creepy revenge fantasy posts in SH should be bannable. The sort of stuff after a horrible murder happens and a bunch of super angry grr people are all like 'THEY SHOULD BE TORTURED TO DEATH' 'HOPE THEY GET RAPED IN PRISON' 'GRR IM SO ANGRY CUT THEIR DICKS OFF'
Alternating opinions are a wonderful thing. Just because you don't agree with them doesn't mean they should be banned, that's called being small minded and ignorant. If we're going to go that route, we should ban the sarcastic responses to these posts i.e. "what" and "what are you talking about" because I don't like it.

Which was reason numero uno why Garry's subforum genocide justification was dumb, the way he expected each subforum to just dump everything into GD. Everything just got condensed into a couple of megathread.
Has the ability to rate been removed from Sensationalist Headlines? (User was banned for this post ("Can't read" - SteveUK))
Instructions were unclear. Also the ban appeal link loops back to "you're banned". [editline]Edit:[/editline] Also the first time I post in GD in like 3 years and I get banned. Still the worst part of Facepunch. (User was permabanned for this post ("Ban evasion alt" - Big Dumb American))
Instructions were unclear. Also the ban appeal link loops back to "you're banned".
Whenever I'm banned I just get "Can't search, try again later"
but there will still be subforums? or will everything just be on one page and you click tags at the top of it or something like that
but there will still be subforums? or will everything just be on one page and you click tags at the top of it or something like that
Don't give them ideas.
If we had notifications, @mentions would be really useful [editline]10th July 2015[/editline]
Probably just places a tag cloud above the forum or something.
this would be cluttered besides like with news theres so many tags to venture out to like #happening or #live - #ukpol #usapol #auspol #nzpol etc - #local #gamenews list goes on, I couldn't imagine a cloud thing being useful you'd still need subforums but to have tags categorised would be helpful. Just user defined tags like I mentioned above and you can filter through those once more than one has been created
As much as I miss the subforums like Airsoft, Maker Mates, etc, I feel the current layout is solid but still needs solid fixes to namely GD. The tagging system proposal would address this to make GD less cluttered, while still keeping with the freedom for megathreads and smaller niche threads that don't fall under any one tagging category. Eliminating the current forum layout, having just one landing page and then filtering out what you'd like to see would be even more of a clusterfuck.

Besides, Automotive Addicts doesn't work well with megathreads, which is the reason I lost interest in procrastinating my automotive hobby on FP. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same for some of the other.
-snip- Don't quote what I'm snipping dammit To put it in a less provocative way, it's such a universally unpopular decision, people don't seem to defend so much as tolerate it.
Kinda funny how I don't think there's a single person who wouldn't take the subforums back in a heartbeat on the entirety of Facepunch besides the mod team.
Unpopular opinion but I don't think there was enough threads and content that warranted subsections, they should have been combined into a singular section rather then forced into GD and FT.
Unpopular opinion but I don't think there was enough threads and content that warranted subsections, they should have been combined into a singular section rather then forced into GD and FT.
how so? Creationism Corner and the TV section had plenty of ongoing and active threads as well as the content. You could say that about the nearly defunct places like cooking chums but not otherwise.
It's in the title — as has been two hours ago.
Yeah but you never do that for SH threads or large chat threads. Having some way to ping mod warnings would be nice.
Kinda funny how I don't think there's a single person who wouldn't take the subforums back in a heartbeat on the entirety of Facepunch besides the mod team.
If everything is dumped into GD and given tags, why bring back subforums? Creative Criticism or Film/TV Shows sure, but everything else would work fine in the GD with some sort of tagging system. No need to bring back subforums that can be condensed into a couple of threads.
just having one lifestyles and hobbies subforum was the best idea imo
how so? Creationism Corner and the TV section had plenty of ongoing and active threads as well as the content. You could however, easily combine the sections and fill up that implied quota.

Maker mates was fairly well frequented before the sub-forum was dropped so I feel that a small sub-forum for Maker Mates could be justified. At that juncture I think a survey should be taken to see the amount of activity each sub-forum and subsequently each megathread after the sub-forum takedown get in order to size up the situation of which topics get tags.

i'd just really like to see chat threads be moved to a chat thread section and encourage more interesting threads of people telling stories/writing essays or something like BDA used to post quite a bit
Whenever I'm banned I just get "Can't search, try again later"
When I am banned it tells me my password is X days old and has expired, the days are the count from when my account was made. Even though the password has changed a few times.
Maker Mates was as dead as the Urban Exploration subforum, what are you on about.
Maybe lumping them into the hobbies sub-forum idea would be better than a separate sub-forum?
