why are you using the microsoft logo as the windows 10 icon windows 10 uses the same logo as windows 8 and 8.1
So people can know the exact version. Keep up with that and we'll get different color for each minor windows update.
the lack of w8-10 logo change kind of fits with what they had previously announced, that it's just going to become 'windows' and maintain a single brand instead of continuously chugging out entirely new versions every few years. I'm sure it'll evolve over time but right now they're not pushing to make things new and wildly different, just updated/improved
Well, it needs to be differentiated somehow.
Does it really need to be, though? Why not just stick to the official logo, and if you want to see the exact version then just rely on the hover title?
Well, it needs to be differentiated somehow.
it shows the exact os version when you hover over it also apple stuff is not differentiated at all
Well if we had both 8 and 8.1 use a purple icon, 10 could be blue ~ And if you really need more, I think black is also official. [t]http://flatheadcomputers.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/windows-phone-8-logo-new.png[/t][t]http://betanews.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/Windows-8-logo-300x300.jpg[/t][t]http://www.decalsground.com/img_b/vinyl-decal-sticker-1658.jpg[/t] Officially they're all blue, so we could just go with that as well. I don't think the multicolored is associated with any new Windows.
I think instead of trying to make different icons for different version just stick to simple platform icons. I really don't see the need in being so specific.
So people can know the exact version. Keep up with that and we'll get different color for each minor windows update.
Why is this so important for other users to know?
Why is this so important for other users to know?
Why take away something? If anything then Browsers should get nuked.
Why take away something? If anything then Browsers should get nuked.
Because it currently doesn't make much sense and seems really unnecessary to have to create different icons for different versions of the platform. All the other icons are simply platform specific, so I don't see why Windows needs to be so exact. If we were to apply the same logic to every other platform and create version specific icons for Linux distros/versions, Android/Mac releases, etc it would be a silly waste of time. Just keep it simple.
I need to know who to laugh at for intentionally not taking the free major upgrade to 8.1
I think instead of trying to make different icons for different version just stick to simple platform icons. I really don't see the need in being so specific.
People can immediately know why something doesn't work for you but does for them (chrome/firefox mac/windows xp/7)
I need to know who to laugh at for intentionally not taking the free major upgrade to 8.1
Yeah and this of course.
People can immediately know why something doesn't work for you but does for them (chrome/firefox mac/windows xp/7)
That's a ridiculously specific and minor reason and in the astronomically low chance the general user would ever need that they can just hover over the icon.
Windows Phone 8 is purple, 8.1 is red, and 10 is blue. Why are all desktop Windows blue? My logic perfectionism is suffering.
That's a ridiculously specific and minor reason and in the astronomically low chance you'd ever need that you can just hover over the icon.
Why bother with complicating it, when current solutions works better?
Why take away something? If anything then Browsers should get nuked.
Unlike Windows 8/8.1/10, each browser is very different from the other
Unlike Windows 8/8.1/10, each browser is very different from the other
the desktop interface.
That's a ridiculously specific and minor reason and in the astronomically low chance the general user would ever need that they can just hover over the icon.
You do know we have a Developers sub-section right? We also have a Hardware and Software subforum. That kind of information is quite useful in those sections.
Unlike Windows 8/8.1/10, each browser is very different from the other
The OS's are also different from each other, a problem on the one does not necessarily exist on the other.
Alright, that's not the point is what I meant. I meant "nobody" uses Windows 8 as in Windows 98 [del]doesn't[/del] will not soon have an icon either.
excuse me could you not be operphobic please thank you
Why bother with complicating it, when current solutions works better?
Nobody can come to an agreement on what icons the specific Windows 8/10 versions can be because they're all the same. It seems silly to me that people are having to come up with arbitrary colouring just to differentiate the version icons when we can just simplify them to be platform-specific like all the other icons already are.
I still don't really see the need to differentiate 8/8.1. Just have the tooltip icon say the version. I would even argue to add 10 into it as well, since they're all really similar.
You do know we have a Developers sub-section right? We also have a Hardware and Software subforum. That kind of information is quite useful in those sections.
How is simply hovering an icon difficult?
People can immediately know why something doesn't work for you but does for them (chrome/firefox mac/windows xp/7)
Most people who have an issue with it start a thread or make a post about it. All that would require is another user asking, "What's your platform?" and them replying. Which already happens in such threads with the icons so what does it matter?
Well I guess you could do something like this... I know mine're ugly but it's just an idea.
I still think we need a proper logout button.
Now that garry's unbanned a fuckton of people, that logout button would be great

I don't really mind if it matters or not, now I'm just trying to figure out a logical solution anyways.
I still think we need a proper logout button.
I would rather not simply for the fact that it's been almost a trademark of the site since its creation and honestly there's not that big a need for it anyway. Even less so than making a particular icon for every single particular version of a platform anyone uses :v: Plus all you need to do is delete your cookies.
Plus all you need to do is delete your cookies.
OR just bookmark this shit. http://facepunch.com/login.php?do=logout
OR just bookmark this shit. http://facepunch.com/login.php?do=logout
Probably more useful, but rarely do you find people that know about that, especially new users. Even when a user posts in Fast Threads, "How do I log out?" which happens once or twice a month, that usually doesn't get linked. Most just reply with "delete your cookies". [editline]20th May 2015[/editline] Plus if you want to log out in fear of someone else getting on your account, you should take steps not to use Facepunch on publicly used devices anyway. Anytime someone gets banned because of someone else hoping on their account and shitposting, the mods have always blamed the user for not maintaining account security, not because they couldn't log out.
