On the subject of cracking down on spammers and gimmicks, I did suggest turning the spambot and alt detection back on a while back. Anything to share on that front by any chance?
How would it work?
This might be a tad off topic but does anyone know what happened to the Facepunch iOS app that someone was making?
which one
Could you just do it the super-roundabout way and auto-format [sp2] into normal [sp] until everyone forgets about it?
you wanna go m8
Yea fukken kick his teeth in m8
I think minimum of ~10 post, with FT not counting as boosting post

Then just allow a single thread per day for users that has lower than 25 posts or something :v:

What about all those poor people who wish to join and advertise their servers? On a slightly more serious note, I've seen people join to ask a lua related question, or ask for help with a bug on their server.

You could also disable thread creation for users that has less than 25-ish posts
Robo made the changes a few hours ago: (Picture stole from Robotboy.)
One million posts.
Blame postal for telling everyone about it. If you see [sp2] in the post, dont read it. I don't want to make [sp2] the same as [sp] because people would just keep using [sp2] and I don't want that.
force [sp2] tags to retroactively parse as [sp] tags maybe? i'm not entirely sure if this is possible, but mechanically speaking it is definitely a better solution than "don't read it."
I was just testing the thing with my post count ( 10000 ), so I added a few zeros to it so I can make a pic. The real requirement is 10.
I feel disgusted with my life choices already damn
Any way to find out who has the most posts on the site? Now I'm curious. Also why is there a lot of dead space on the New Posts button?
One million posts.
More concretely, five times the combined number of posts the Dori Dozen has made since 2009. Posting as fast as possible (1 every 10 seconds) in as few threads as possible would require 28 hours and more than 7 threads per hour. Another question comes to mind, do RC threads autolock after 5000 posts?
I'm not here to demand that sp2 as we knew it comes back. You're a smart, logically sound person, Robotboy, you probably had a damn good reason for dropping it even if I can't think of it offhand. But there's no contesting the fact that the current [sp] tag fucking sucks. Are you open to suggestions on what we should be replacing [sp{,2}] with?
Any way to find out who has the most posts on the site? Now I'm curious. Also why is there a lot of dead space on the New Posts button?
No contest, it's Zeke129.
No contest, it's Zeke129.
Nah, rusty100 has like 22k more than zeke. http://www.facepunch.com/members/member.php?u=37601
Also, [sp2] are no longer, the world is clearly not ready for them yet.
It would've died down quickly anyways, it wasn't even given a chance.
Any way to find out who has the most posts on the site? Now I'm curious.
How would it work?
It would just reenable these old things that got switched off when Garry closed registration. http://facepunch.com/fp_events.php?type=regi http://facepunch.com/fp_events.php?type=spmb
I don't feel so bad about my post count anymore
At least you don't throw celebratory streams when you went 20.000 posts, like smurfy did.
I don't realize I've hit landmarks til like, 400 posts later last I looked it was mid 26k's and I was like "oh wow I passed the 25 mark"
I don't realize I've hit landmarks til like, 400 posts later
Unless you can make it so much less akward than smurfys "party", then don't bother making a big deal of it, unless you hit something a bit bigger, say 100.000 or something ...
What exactly was the issue with sp2 anyways?
Aside from it not working on some browsers/devices, it was a spoiler tag that was easily unintentionally viewable. If someone posts a large paragraph in hover spoilers and you are scrolling down, your mouse could be over it without you noticing and you would have never known it was a spoiler until you had already read up to a spoiler. This could also happen with smaller posts too, not as easily of course. < I accidentally viewed a spoiler shorter than the previous sentence even. It was about 6 words. Luckily I didn't care about whatever thing it was a spoiler for. I think if it worked on all devices/browsers, AND it was a click to reveal then I wouldn't mind it, it looks neat, but the hover mechanics are awful. I don't want to play dodge the posts with my mouse. When you click on a link to go to new posts your mouse is already over the area where someone's post appears.
Should add a limit to how often you can create threads imo
Limit new accounts until they reach 50 posts. Cannot create threads Cannot post images or other media. Bam, spambot problem solved and it may convince lurkers to be active in the community more often.

We could do this: * Person joins Facepunch, makes thread asking for help with game. * Person is told thread needs to be checked by a moderator before it is viewable by the public because of spambots. * If they're not a spambot (and not breaking some other rule like posting a thread for a game that already has a megathread), whatever moderator sees it first approves it. * Person gets help and is happy. That sort of thing (sometimes called "thread moderation") is a pretty common scenario, vBulletin should already support it.
I was just testing the thing with my post count ( 10000 ), so I added a few zeros to it so I can make a pic. The real requirement is 10.
Honestly I think the best number to use would be 100. A lot of things can happen after 100 posts and if they haven't been immediately permabanned by then, they have at least some qualifications to stay here on FP. Plus after 100 posts, they'll have a good idea of what's acceptable and unacceptable here on FP, to a degree.
