going ten years without a ban or ten years with absolutely no bans on the account whatsoever?
Impossible, unless you never post
[editline]23rd June 2015[/editline]
Dammit. How about people with less than 5 bans and 10 years?
they never post
I have a HUGE ban list, but my post count basically means that I have a very low ban-per-post rate
I could easily have never been banned if I never posted :v:
I wouldn't say no-bans be a criteria, maybe ban frequency.
If they've had 1 day bans every other month, I don't think that really qualifies, where as 1 ban every 4 or 6 months would be better.
Though I wouldn't really want to make lack of bans a criteria for such an award, a lot of users joined when they were younger and now have matured to be better, both in their age and posting and don't really deserve to be punished by not getting such an award due to something they were banned for 5+ years ago.
This is the first time I seen someone make an exclusive award suggestion where the criteria did not apply for him on the spot.
Instead, a recognition should be awarded for someone who has posted for over 10 years with no bans whatsoever.
I have a feeling your latter suggestion is making your whole post mocking the idea since I cannot think of a single poster who has had zero bans in the past 10 years but is still active within the community.
I can't think of anyone with over 5000 posts who has no bans regardless of how long they've been here, maybe even 3000 or 2000 posts.
legitimate, non accidental/unavoidable bans
you're right, i've already been permabanned since been unbanned for garry's birthday
I imagine it is pretty easy to get perma-banned when you've got a ban history as long as yours.
I imagine it is pretty easy to get perma-banned when you've got a ban history as long as yours.
I'm pretty sure if you get unbanned for Garry's birthday you can get permabanned for sneezing.
you're right, i've already been permabanned since been unbanned for garry's birthday
Sure, you're a perm'd user who is still posting, but you're not from 05.
I feel the talk about people not deserving this "10" thing due to a ban history will be so immensely tiny that I really don't see the point in discussing it.
Besides, I'm not saying it's an award for being a good/great poster or having a tiny ban history. It's an award for being a part of the community here for 10+ years and still be contributing to it, for better or worse.
I suppose how I worded it with the bans was poorly.
[editline]23rd June 2015[/editline]
Besides, a lot of bans heavily rely on mod discretion. What was bannable 7 years ago may not totally be bannable today, or at least be only bannable in certain cases. That only adds to why bans shouldn't be counted toward this.
The whole "make their ban history a part of the criteria" totally takes away from the whole reason I suggested giving a little "10" symbol on their profile.
If you're gonna hand out rewards for being on Facepunch for x amount of time you might as well reinstate the four-years-for-gold system. The right to a larger avatar seems pretty reasonable if you've been an active poster for that long.
I feel being here 10 years kind of transcends gold membership, to be honest.
while you're at it you should give larger avatars and an award to people who have been posting for one year
i'm unbiased trust me

Instate purple membership after ten years, grant the ability to ban Garry and install a dictatorship and rule with an iron fist.
Here's a speed boat for your 10 years on FP.

Well, most people I imagine would only start giving a shit about resinstating the old system of handing out gold membership when they get close to it or are already past it, but it does seem like a pretty fair way of awarding it now that Boostar is gone and you can't buy it.
While I can't say this without being obviously biased and looking like I'm begging, I wouldn't mind some thought being put into how avatars are handled now that there's no actual way to get the larger one.
I mean, you tend to remember gold members by their avatars, but blue avatars are so puny you don't really get the same effect most of the time.
At the end of the day though they're just avatars, and if you're genuinely bothered by your avatar size as more than a side-thought that'd be silly, and I imagine it just gets into "eh too much trouble to work this out" territory for the mods/garry/whoever's in charge of that decision.

Luafox has no bans. She's the oldest and highest posting user that I'm aware of without a single ban.

It's tough having a post history as good as mine, looking forward to my award soon!!

Honestly I'm feeling that you're just riding the coattails of my suggestion to give one more chance at the "make gold = age + posts again so I can get gold" argument that has been constantly shot down by the mods in this thread.
[editline]23rd June 2015[/editline]
Don't make my suggestion about getting gold membership.
That's not what I suggested, at all.

No, every time I see someone put forth a "humble" suggestion, in nearly all instances the user would be eligible if it was applied. It is the equivalent to someone labeling a user as 14, because he had turned 15 not long ago.
I feel the talk about people not deserving this "10" thing due to a ban history will be so immensely tiny that I really don't see the point in discussing it.
That's the point. I don't think forum "badges" are even a good thing in the first place.

Well excuse me for having an opinion on something that isn't directly related to your badge idea and daring to say it while replying to one of your posts. If it's any consolation I think the idea of being given a special congratulatory cupcake for being around for x years is dumb, and sounds like fuel for petty join-date elitism. I just wanted to post my thoughts on the issue of how gold membership is handled now that there's no way to get it. Yes, I know that it's been shot down constantly. Hence why "well the old style of getting it sounds pretty reasonable" was one short sentence and not the focus. But apparently I'm leeching off your posts to push my agenda.
Just shut up.
Sorry. I won't post on the subject again.
Just shut up.
Just shut up.
Kind of rude, I think u should be a role model of what u want to see on this forum. Please consider my words for the sake of facepunch.
That's the point. I don't think forum "badges" are even a good thing in the first place.
Agreed, having the join date visible is enough of a badge already.
Agreed, having the join date visible is enough of a badge already.
a badge of shame for most
Agreed, having the join date visible is enough of a badge already.
you would say that
I don't remember the reason gold & title change was disabled. Anyone recall?
I liked when I got gold that I got to split the tip between the mods, and thus popped Craptasket's 4K cherry. Would like to see that kind of stuff re-implemented but maybe it was the reason you disabled gold in the first place?
you would say that
Yes, I would, because apart from personal satisfaction that you've been here for x amount of time, Join date means fuck all, I've seen terrible posting long term users and fantastic new users and vice versa. Hell, the only time I use my join date is to whack anyone who is being join date elitist. Either that or to joke about "fucking 0x'ers" usually 07/8/9ers, because its something of a running joke from back when join date elitism was a bit more rampant

Too costly to maintain due to chargebacks and VAT fees.

well, i mean, it was a joke
doesn't the other 04er have a gif avatar despite still being a blue member
Too costly to maintain due to chargebacks and VAT fees.
Ah, understandable. This is probably a stupid suggestion and probably brought up before, but if that was the sole reason gold got disabled maybe you could use any of the cryptocurrencies (BitCoin, etc) instead and you won't have to deal with those issues.
I really liked the idea that the money spent went to the mods.
