My friend Wheatley (called here .Greninja) lives in Yemen, and although he lived in peace there, the conflict that is going on there is making his life so hard, that I don't know what it could happen tomorrow. I do my best taking him away temporarily from the oppresive atmosphere with playing games, modding and drawing, but on the last weeks it got so worse that I fear for their lives. Although he already was a frequent visitor of Facepunch, he finally did an account to post when the first international headlines hit the mass media. Along the several threads on Sensationalist Headlines related to the conflict, he posted about what was going on. Several people already were requesting some sort of general thread to keep track of him, but it has been now today 13th of April when the shit hit the fan completely.
Hello, am currently in Yemen I can say as much as this news is telling you people that we are in shitty situation, Yesterday they have been fighting over and even a bloody School has been hit and killed several students. I hope for my country sake at some point this will be resolved, I can't tell you much, all I know is that we were forced to be inside and that we been hearing gun shots for hours.
30th March - 5th April 2015
Are you Yemeni? Or just live there for some reason? If so how rich are you parents that you can afford internet and stuff, and that you know english.

Yes I am Yemeni, not quite rich we basically on a level where we don't have debts and we don't need anyone for the time being, as for my English I was Educated at Saudi Arabia with English and Arabic which I been until after 8 years I decided to study in an American School in Yemen.
Also because I played alot of video games and read alot of Disney books.

I live in a house with my Mother, although my Father is with me too but he just randomly disappear almost the whole day and just suddenly pop up clueless on what's happening outside,
As for the Rebels, I haven't seen them, which is a good thing since if I start seeing even a single one am going to try and get cover.
Also the Ex President got hit while he was escaping and I seen the picture of him in the hospital and I don't think his going to make it out of this one.

I just got woke up at bloody 6:30 morning from all my family members that there's war around, the news is buzzing as like mad and all the school has been closed down.
Am grabbing as much fuel for the generator and as much Water supplies as I can. This is going to be hell.

Am alive somehow,
There was literally AA shots shooting to the sky at late night close to my street, my best friend who is close to me got a big hole on his garden only to realise it was a grenade that stopped working somehow, since Thursday I hear bombs or gunshots atleast 3 hours or so once a day.
Everyone refuses to even step outside, The airports are closed, The Whole thing is a mess.
You all can ask me questions about the situations here, and I will try my best to answer most of them.

Do you have any plans to leave the country?

I didn't have any plans to leave at first since I didn't expect it to be that big, but the situations now doesn't allow me to even go anywhere,I can't go to the airports as I said above it's closed,I could travel with a car but that would be suicidal at that point plus the Car I own has a Saudi Arabia license plate so either they rant at me or shoot at sight.

Where are you going to go?

No Where, I can't risk to go out anywhere, the streets are literally isolated there could be a gunfight at any moment.

Do you have any alternate methods of WWW access? Can you secure a SATCOM link or see if you are eligible for a donation?

That's nice of you but I don't need donation at all, at very least I can atleast answer questions I have about from the inside so you all have a clear proof about what's happening

As someone ignorant of both sides in this conflict, which side do the people want to stay in control? How have the rebels been in management of their territories?
I'm reading on wikipedia for a quick summary of the conflict.

I can't really say much since I didn't get into much Intel about them, for the Rebels I say they just thinking they doing the right thing even though after what I experienced Last year (Not the first time I been in war like this) wasn't so Right looking, while the Saudi arabia and the other countries try to ,uh as you people say, to stop their shit, As for the citizens of which side I don't think anyone want to be any side really, they just want to live in peace which apparently as you can see isn't working out at the moment
As for the management of their Territories I think hearing explosions every 3/4 hours seems like they not managing it well

I been hearing explosions for the whole night none stop and I couldn't even sleep for an hour, am praying for all of us here.
Also apparently the rumours about these high noise explosives didn't happen yesterday, hopefully it doesn't happen today.

Aden apparently is going to get an Army from Saudia Arabia and some other countries to protect it, That's a relief for my cousins there but here's the bad part
They might hit the government buildings, all honestly I don't really care about them but the really horrible part is that my house is literally 2 inches beside it.
If they going to hit it, We might be taken down if it doesn't go as planned.
6th -10th April
I swear to god am losing hope and think *Maybe today I will be an accident* everytime I hear news about Saudia Arabia messing up, It's not like it's far from true since every night I always hear intense explosions and gunfire.
News from the inside, Apparently people found out there was alot of rebels in Aden, it turns out they had tunnels to go to Sanaa,Aden and other places quickly so they forced to rebels to run to there holes and blown them out, Seems Aden is the safest place so far although they still stuck here.

I can just say since the war I can smell the gunpowder when I wake up every morning.
The news isn't surprising since the fact I still hear bombing everyday seems like they still desperately trying to take the rebels out. Although when they enter Aden, it's a mess I will tell you, the streets are all broken in there and they even blow up Public buildings to ashes like Aden mall, not sure if it was the Rebels work or the Air strikes. but it's alot worse in Aden, and comparing Aden to Sann'a the place is much smaller so citizens in there have a higher chance to get an accident.
Funny thing: the Ministry of Education is telling us at Sunday school will start, like if anyone is even here anymore, even if anyone is still here I don't think anyone that closed minded would go to Schools at this rate.
Haven't really updated much since I didn't really have any news to give, Although even though am a bit new here but, since there is so much news about the war wouldn't it be better if we just put it all in one Thread?
*In case the image fails*
Power is off, gas is starting to become scarce, and the last water purifier that was operative on the city has stopped working. They got provisions, but the fights are getting intense.
I request the help of all the Facepunchers who know more/have more time to dedicate to track the news related to the conflict. Meanwhile I will post here all of what he tells me if he manages to get online (in case he can't reach this place). Send to me PMs in case something new happens and I'm not online, so I can update the main post.
I have the terrible feeling of insecurity, like watching a car accident in slow motion. I really pray to be wrong :C
I've only read that Saudi Arabia is especially hesitant to send in ground forces, like this article
Honestly, Saudi Arabia can't even hit the right targets with their air strikes, and it's not stopping the rebel forces from winning. Sending in ground forces would not only up the ante for victory but it'll cause even more damage and innocent deaths.
[editline]13th April 2015[/editline]
Also, here is a timeline of the "rise" of the Houti rebels.
Seems like a good option to keep things in track in one thread,
It is true there is barely water, and patrol is non existence at all and electricity is gone literally (using a generator for electricity at the moment), the whole place is quiet as hell and I can tell you last night I almost died.
I was walking back home at night from a friend's house who is pretty close to me, while I was walking down to my house in a straight line I heard unbelievable loud shots, I looked up and I saw what could be called a Hellfire sparkles and all the sudden everything was going down, the shots and explosives was so near me I panic and ran as fast as I can but I trip over and fell, and when I put my head up and looked around,
I swear this might sound like some genetic horror scene but it did happen,
The whole walls, all the walls around me was sprayed so harshly they all said
God is big
Death to Americans
Death to Jews
Victory to Islam
All while I was walking through all those walls that looked like death sentences, I tried to run the more I ran the more sprays I found of it, is like a never ending nightmare expect you actually living in it, than I ran inside my house,
With no lights, no electricity, nothing but the sounds of hell coming from the skies, all I did was faint, and I was highly surprised that I woke up with nothing on me.
They fought in every street except mine yet, and they said we next.
Good luck to you escaping situation. Friend escaped to oman from al hudaydah in february, have no idea how bad it is now =/
Why is the electricity on today, I literally have no idea why the electricity is on at the moment.
Anyhow it seems am not dead and apparently since the fact the electricity is on (Haven't had any for 3 days been using only the generator at night) seems things are getting better? well I still hear gun fire but am not sure how the electricity is on,
Maybe the Rebels allowed the workers to fix the electricity?
Please be safe. (despite being an american conservative) I really think we could resolve this without hurting so many innocent people.
We're here for you friend. Be safe.
Are there any newspapers around to read there?
Any pictures of your neighborhood you could share?
I didn't care about the conflict until .Greninja's posts.
I'm going to try and spread the word.
.Greninja, I really hope the best for you. I keep following people in Sanaa, and I keep hoping you are staying safe. I couldn't imagine the type of hell you've gone through, hopefully the fighting will stay off your street.
Are there any newspapers around to read there?

Am not sure if I could even show any newspapers since most of them are in Arabic and am not really good at translating, although I try to keep away from it since all of it have gore graphic images of the victims from the conflict and I rather keep myself sane from all that
As for pictures I could share but at the moment it's night and I could go out at the morning and try to take pictures, but I would rather make sure am not taking pictures while there is people around or people might act suspicious.
.Greninja, I really hope the best for you. I keep following people in Sanaa, and I keep hoping you are staying safe. I couldn't imagine the type of hell you've gone through, hopefully the fighting will stay off your street.
Thank you both, I didn't really want to Join Facepunch like this though, but hopefully I can enjoy the community once this is all over,
although I do admit that it's hard to gain faith when your Generator fuses burns out, lacking in patrol and water. In the same week.
although am trying to get Solar Energy Panels so I can restore electricity. Also about that time when I said the electricity is suddenly on (Note am currently using the generator now)
Yeah...they blow up the facility and we stuck in 24Hrs with no electricity again.
But to show am okay, sane and still currently have hands attached I drew a grumpy alien looking thing with a tie
Better Stay optimistic in times of madness.
If it puts you at risk, don't take pictures. It's not that important to me or anyone else here.
How are your family right now?
This looks like the beginning of World War 3. I believe it's going to as messy in the style resembling world one. Let hope I am wrong. Stay safe.
This looks like the beginning of World War 3. I believe it's going to as messy in the style resembling world one. Let hope I am wrong. Stay safe.
No Offense but as horrifying as it is living in a middle of war, I doubt that a bunch of Rebels with nice Tech could start a War World 3. Honestly I just want this to be over.
How are your family right now?
They in Between moods of Boredom and high insecurity at the moment, but we doing fine so far.
If it puts you at risk, don't take pictures. It's not that important to me or anyone else here.
Too late, I already did it early morning.
This road mostly has houses and small supermarkets
This road to the right is where the Government main door, this is where all the creepy sprays suddenly appeared when I was coming back home and the hellfire happened (Note I checked it again and they added gore graphic images of dead/injured children with a title on top of it saying *It's American fault* who puts these on the walls without anyone noticing it?) Anyhow I didn't take a picture of the Government main door since there were guards there.
As you can see the place is mostly Citizen area I still don't get the moron who decided that the Government should be in such location.
As for me I feel Tired, I haven't slept well at all since am getting huge Headaches and I smell like a Character from the Walking dead.
God I hate this place.
that's the fucking worst
i really hope you can find some way to get out
something tells me hiding out in your house won't work out in the long run
This situation looks real bad. Hope the best on your survival in this conflict and don't risk yourself too much.
Glad to hear you and your family are doing fine. I have a question regarding the bombing. A few Yemeni analysts in the area around Sanaa have reported several residents smelled a strong chlorine odor after some of the bombings. Have you heard anything about chlorine bombs being used?
Dude, I can't say how sorry I am that you're stuck in this situation. I admire you trying to keep us updated.

Luckily no, but I can't really say since most of the time the power is off also most of the time am just on the bed having intense headache, lack of sleep and having deep life decisions of my choices.
also children screaming, for 5 hours straight. they not screaming in pain or anything they just screaming, I could swear one of them was screaming like a car for 2 hours.
Also Rebels opened the path for 24 hours only so they can let the workers fix the electricity
Unfortunately the electricity only lasted 5 minutes.
I will update more further if I find anything.
Sorry to hear that you are going through so much, I hope this ends soon. Hopefully the electricity lasts longer for you as well. Thank you for the updates as well.
Edit: Ok re-reading the reports I read last night, the Houthis seemed to have stockpiled Chlorine bombs in Attan. Jets bombed it, seemed to have set off some of the chlorine bombs.
Tell you what am going to go ahead and tell you some tips in case any of you got into any civil war or war in general for the very least I die leaving something.
1.Always open the window, even a little crack, I swear to god alot of people I knew died because the pressure of the bombs that caused the glass to break heavily
2.horde food supplies, grab food supplies that lasts a year, if nothing happens, eat them and do it again for the next year.
3.If you hear explosives, stay in, if it gets fucking louder stay in a place where the roof can't kill you.
4.Get a solar panel, or even a small one, My friend owns a solar panel at his house and he could keep up with the news ever since.
5.Don't go mad, just don't, you don't know how many people got mad and go out in a heroic escape just trying to survive, even children gets hit, Do anything I don't know write a book or anything just don't lose your sanity.
Just Smile and hope for the best, cause I know there's a higher chance am not making it anyways and almost all my friends left cause they got special pass, Am happy for them.
All I hear is the sounds of the explosives going louder, the news of more casualty and the more and more sounds I hear, the windows are shaking, the place is not safe, they blowing everything we ever build into rubbles.
Honestly I say both parties of the war are dicks, The rebels are thinking about some shitty freedom lore while the Saudi Arabia thinks they are being the good guys while they just being the Moronic Death tolls most of our Citizens.
also about the Chlorines bombs, it's true they just blow up a building fillet with it, it's basically the next street behind the post office.
And the Saudi Arabia declare that any Yemeni citizen are free to live in Saudi Arabia as much as they can until the war goes out for free.
This Country has already been into so much, Where did we go so wrong?
This is heartbreaking. :(
Wish I could help you with that, thank you for the tips. I had known a few of the tips, especially about the pressure one. Sorry to hear a lot of people who you knew died in the bombings, that has to be very hard to go through. I agree both sides are dicks, Saudi Arabia is hitting densely populated areas, when there are literally big Houthi targets not in the middle of a city... The Houthis are getting worse, and no side seems to really want peace. Honestly I wish I knew. Hopefully it gets peaceful soon.
Fuck man, that Saudia Arabia deal is sounding better and better. Maybe facepunch can arrange for a flak jacket to be amazon droned in or something - something to help get you to safety.

Would have to include his family as well.
In his position, I would not flee without them.
Then again, I wouldn't want to flee to the country bombing the shit out of my home either
Ladies and Gentleman The electricity is on and still on since 4 hours ago and I didn't hear any bombing or gunshots or screaming.
Did the war just stopped or everyone took a brief moment since Killing Floor 2 is coming out today?
Do you think its wise using the crucial electricity on your computer?
Do you think its wise using the crucial electricity on your computer?
Not like that siphons from other things?
War is over..
The war is over
THE FUCKING WAR IS OVER.
Logically it isn't, but there's only a few things that can sort off after a few days.
The bombings has been stopped and some black commando was talking about how to restore hope.
Do you know what this means? I can sleep again, and also that means electricity will be back on order, the water factory will be reopened and we can finally go outside.
I have all rights to say and I mean it I can say the *I survived the war for this* Quote.
Do I at least win a reward for surviving a traumatizing experience.
Dude, I'm glad to hear the bombardment is over. Stay safe, man.
I don't know about a reward, but you've certainly earned the eternal respect of a lot of FPers, for whatever little that's worth.
