• How to determine if a tree is still alive?

Stab it with knife, if it bleeds - it's alive
poke it with a stick.
Kick it. If it kicks you back, it's alive.
Check the twigs and the rutes. [editline]7th November 2010[/editline]
[img_thumb]http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20090210194514/fallout/images/e/e0/Harold.jpg[/img_thumb]
That's ugly, and whats it from.
Gonna go with leaves. If they die, it's either winter or the tree's dead.
The twig test I mentioned is usually a good indicator too.
the twigs snap off so easily because the water stored in the branches has evaporated it can take weeks for that to happen so no it's not a good indicator faggot

Hook it up to an IV, use chestpaddles if it's a flatline
raise your woodcutting level
Check for a pulse.
Check out the leaves. Are they discolored? Or were they green the most recent spring and summer? Are the leaves falling prematurely? Dark spots may indicate bugs, disease or transplant shock, and consistently yellow leaves may indicate an injury to the root system or a high soil pH. No leaves, or consistently brown leaves, may hint that the tree is, in fact, dead. Check out the branches. If you can find new branches stemming out from existing branches, the tree still has a shot at recovery. Chew marks or holes mean the problem may be an insect infestation, and a wet or sticky liquid is a red flag of bacterial infection. If you aren’t positive the tree is dead, prune off the dry branches and wait for new growth to appear over the next year. Break off a limb. Is it green or white and moist (indicating life)? Or is the limb brown, cracked and dry (indicating death)? If the limbs are too high off the ground to reach, or if you are hesitant to cause further damage to the tree by breaking off a limb, scrape away a small piece of bark with your fingernail and look at the cabium, a thin layer between the bark and the inside wood. If the tree is alive, the cabium should be green.
Best thing you can do
raise your woodcutting level
That would be farming.
is there leaves falling with some color?
Light it on fire. If it burns to ashes, its dead
