Wait are talking about making a bong out of ice or that^?
Yup I was gonna post this but you said it first.. Glycerin tube is what the op is talking about and they have been around for a while. They can be kinda expensive though
650, not including the SYN ashcatcher. The blue part is some china glass my buddy bought on grass city and put it on for the hell of it.
Yeah most people keep vodka (and other likka) in the freezer because it gets cold and doesn't freeze lol. Anything over 60% alcohol won't freeze.
But vodka is usually 37,5%-40%, I've seen 50% but never above 60%
I usually see anything over 80 proof (40%) being stored in freezers. Never seems to freeze, but then again I don't drink any liquor less than 80 proof.
I figured it out. here's the picture.
You guys are fuckin' geniuses.
Idea for the mold. Take a solid block of something (metal, plastic) and bore a hole that is the size you need for the bong tube. Then put a hole leading out of the bottom of it at a diagonal for the piece to fit in. Then take a sausage balloon, one of those ones that is long and thin, and put it down into the hole. Fill the hole with water. This will make your balloon start to rise, but this is the genius part. Put something heavy on the top of the entire thing. This forces the balloon to stay inside. Plus, when the water expands from freezing, it pops the balloon and leaves the inside of the chamber hollow.

My idea: Using two bottles, cut a hole to fit something like this through: Then seal the gap so that water doesn't get out of the bigger bottle or get into the smaller bottle (perhaps using a mix of cellophane and beeswax to create a good seal). Fill the area between the bottles with ice and freeze it. Remove cork and add downstem/bowl and smoke it. The advantage with this is that the 'mold' doesn't need to be separated. It's easy to make and all of the ice is contained in the bigger bottle. Plus, the cap of the smaller bottle is where you draw from, which means you'll always have a good seal on the top (since it isn't made of ice). My plan is that once you make the holes once, you can reuse those bottles infinitely. Finally, having soda bottles isn't suspicious.
Edit: messed up the drawing; the top of the inner bottle should be constricted to form the neck of the piece.

Also as the ice would melt the whole structure would fall into the bottle and the hole for the downstem would move.
Well, this is an initial concept, alterations could be made to it. My concerns with the other mold plan is: 1) Taking off the mold might destroy the piece and/or parts of the mold might get stuck to the piece (think ice cubes in a tray; you usually have to hit them out and that's a clean surface. Any mold will have a propensity to get sticky unless it's perfectly smoothed) 2) It's gonna melt onto your floor and your hands are gonnna be cold/wet 3) If you drop it you're gonna have dirty water/ice everywhere However, someone feel free to make it and prove me wrong (would love nothing more than that!)
Holding the bong with a towel or other cloth underneath is an easy way to keep your hands warm, prevent it from making a mess, and be easily accessible to everyone. If you drop a glass bong you will have dirty glass and water everywhere. Like what if you just made a grilled cheese sandwich and your hands were all buttery and bam the next thing you know you fling your precious bong across the room and oh god broken glass everywhere. Simply wipe up an ice bong with your towel!
I think using my idea for the three-part mold would allow you to retrieve the final piece fairly easily. Plus if you made the inflatable part hollow, you could pour warm water down it to loosen it up, then slide it out more easily. The remaining bong mold should have thick enough ice that you can be relatively rough with it without breakage. Perhaps to solve the "water fucking everywhere" problem, it would just be marketed for outdoor use? That or like WoodenSpoon said, you could just fold up a towel and pass it around with the ice. Or it could come with a small tray that clipped into the elastic grip - it would be slightly wider than the base of the bong and have a lip to catch all the drips. I feel like the good thing about ice is all you would need to do is leave the mold out for a min or so and it will easily come off.
Well at this point I'm just following my idea since that fits my particular needs. For those interested: I used a 1 liter bottle and 3 quarts bottle of lemonade to make this. As of right now the entire thing is solid. The inner bottle was frozen solidly at the top since the bouyancy kept it fixed in place. I can even lift it by the inner bottle and it's still solid as a rock. Just have to cut the two holes and freeze it again and I'll have a working piece. EDIT: It seems the bottle insulates itself very well. It doesn't even feel cold.
I'd like to see a physical representation of Solomoncrunch's idea. Honestly, that's fucking genius.
Solomoncrunch's idea is truly next-gen. Woooaah
Alright so anybody know the next step I should take? Who should I take this idea to? Does anyone have a 3D printer and CAD experience who wants to make a prototype? LET'S MAKE THIS THING A REALITY!!

or you could have a layer of plastic between the mold and water so when its done you can pull it out with the sheet of plastic stuck to it, warm it up a little with a blow dryer or something and the plastic layer will slide right off.
Just saw this picture, looks pretty decent though I can't tell what he used as a mold
Seems like more trouble than it's worth to be perfectly honest. Might be decent for smoking in a cold climate but if you're anywhere remotely warm it'd be a huge waste of time when you could just use a regular bong with an ice-catcher and ice packed into it. I can respect the novelty of it, though.
Okay so this asshole totally jacked my idea, but they produced it first so I guess we lose. If any of you really want one of these, I just got an email about this shit:
EYCE Mold - Make Your Own Ice Water Bong A lifetime supply of frosty cool bongs can be yours with this amazing new invention from EYCE. Using this kit, and nothing more than water from your tap and a standard domestic freezer, you can create a working waterpipe made entirely from ice. Fill the mould and insert the core pin which creates the space to insert the downstem. Place the EYCE Mold in your freezer and leave until completely frozen. Once completely solid, run warm water over the mould to loosen, then gently remove the mould to reveal a frozen bong. Insert the silicone grommet and aluminium downstem and return the bong to the freezer until the downstem is frozen in place. You now have a working bong that will give the coolest, freshest hits imaginable.
http://www.everyonedoesit.com/online_headshop/eyce-mold-make-your-own-ice-water-bong.cfm?iProductID=11384&utm_source=newsletter280714v2&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=eyce
Who's stopping you from making a better one?
Or cheaper, for that matter. The ice-bong scene could use some competition!
I hear they're all the rage at ice-hotels
I still kinda agree that the idea of it is kinda flawed. If you are putting the money down for a ice bong it should be cheap as hell, otherwise you could get a simple plastic bong. Also if you want this because lets say you need to be stealthy good luck finding a place to freeze overnight without parents or whatever seeing it, and how small that market size is (kids with no money to). The cleanup would be dick if you don't immediately start smoking from it, and considering how we all experience the "hey man take your hit already" phenomenon it just drags it down even further. The only feasible design I can see is something that will house the entire thing, where the ice acts as a simple barrier between the hot smoke and plastic, that way as it melts it just collects in the container and not all over the place. Basically like a large hollow plastic/rubber bong that has a layer to fill with water, freeze then as it melts just sits in the container until you're done, then maybe unscrew something to pour the water out. [editline]30th July 2014[/editline] Also I just realized the price of that thing posted above, like holy shit $100+ ahahahahah, why wouldn't you get a quality glass bong with that money and deal with the freezing nonsense.
