My dad is going to be there in January 2012 for 1 year.
Did you see any German,Canadian,British or French troops?
Would you pissed off if they took fast food restaurants away from KAF? For the reason "This is a war zone - not an amusement park," Command Sgt. Maj. Michael T. Hall recently wrote on the ISAF blog.
If you injured a fighter,Would you kill him or patch him up? I saw a video with Canadian Forces patching up a Taliban fighter.
What's the difference between Al-Qaeda and Taliban?
And is food there good?

Is it true that logistics are a nightmare up there?
Did you die?
Did you die?
LOL. No, I was just moving. I'm deeper in country now. Working nights. It's sooooo boring here. Doing good things, though.

I saw Polish and Canadian.
I'm not in KAF and we don't have fast food where I'm at, so no I wouldn't care.
Kill him.
I actually don't know. Google it and get back to me.
Eh. It's okay. We get steak and lobster every friday! :D
Are the special forces guys as "badass" as most books/film/video games make them out to be?
Ha! No. They just have a total disregard for their own lives. I've met several of them. They work so well because they just DO NOT care.
I got a couple of qeustions.
What is your opinion on bradley manning
How is the food at the FOB.
And how good are you at shooting things?
Bradley Manning is a fucking moron. He released sensitive information and he paid for it. As you can tell by now, I haven't released anything that would be in violation of OPSEC. It's all very general information. You could find it anywhere on the web. I keep a memo of all OPSEC reminders with me at all times just to make sure I don't slip.
It's ok. Read above.
I'm an Expert Marksman if that means anything to ya! :smug:
did you ever consider joining another branch?
Nope. My dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, and great great-grandpa were all in the Army. It was just a no-brainer.

AKA "yes, but i can't tell you"
[editline]9th May 2011[/editline]
is there a rule, that states not to inform others of the rules?
or can you give us a list of the OPSEC rules?
Show us your war face
You said you met some foreign troops, how were they in comparison to the US troops?
Also how popular is tobacco usage in the army?
How is the internet there?
Is it seriously that bad?
Opium is one of the main ways the Taliban gets money. There are lots of drug labs over here. Probably more drug labs than HME and IED workshops.

I picture Afghanistan as a Garry's Mod DarkRP Server.
I just googled it, Al-Qaeda is the one that goes around the world bombing things,Characteristic techniques include suicide attacks and simultaneous bombings of different targets. And have taken a pledge of loyalty to Osama bin Laden.
"The Taliban is a Sunni Islamist, predominately Pashtun movement that ruled most of Afghanistan from 1996 until 2001, when its leaders were removed from. Following this it regrouped and since 2004 it has made a strong revival as an insurgency movement fighting a protracted guerrilla war against the current government of Afghanistan,
The Taliban movement is headed by Mullah Mohammed Omar. Mullah Omar's ranks and followers made up mostly of Afghan refugees who had studied at Islamic religious schools in Pakistan. The Taliban has received valuable training, supplies and arms from the Pakistani government, particularly the Inter-Services Intelligence and many recruits from Madrasahs for Afghan refugees in Pakistan"

My friend is in usmc boot camp right now and he'll probably ship out soon since his mos is infantry (enlisted) and he's full time
I know contacting him varies by where he's deployed (outpost, fob, germany, etc) but can you give me a general idea on how I can contact him? Can I send him books and porn and shit? Also how often would he be able to use internet?
[editline]9th May 2011[/editline]
And can he send me free night vision goggles like he promised

By mail, usually. Depends on if he gets a phone over here. No, you can't send porn. He'll be able to get on the internet everyday if he's lucky. (Though he's infantry so he'll be on patrol and QRF a lot probably.)

[editline]9th May 2011[/editline]
Would he be happy if I send him a box of foregrips because I plan to do so with a single piece of paper with a trollface on it

Heh, aren't night vision goggles (like the AN/PVS-7) restricted items too?
Heh, aren't night vision goggles (like the AN/PVS-7) restricted items too?
Except afaik they're occasionally on eBay
Same for the m50 respirator which my friend bought from... An unknown source :ninja:
My brother served in the military as a machine gunner. Generally when people asked him questions about what he has done in the middle east results in him ending the conversation, so I tend to never speak of that subject near him. But what has been the worst thing you have seen?
Do you feel Hamid Karzai does observable job at governing? Like do you see a positive effects his government has over Afghanistan?
I'm assuming you've spoken to locals every so often, if not I guess this question is null: Do you think there is a general support for the Karzai regime? Do you think they like the idea that the US put a former financial supporter of Bin Laden in power?

I knew someone who got a 1986 field manual that was labeled "Distribution limited to US government agencies only" the same way, but I don't think the US Army is going to hunt down people reading about their Cold War AirLand Battle doctrine.
Not sure if you can answer this, but what do you fell about the limitations of the technology you use (like JSTARS)? Do people who use the output of your work perceive it as "something I can't fight without"?
Would you say that there is a chance I would be deployed as a Combat Medic, Infantry, or Cav Scout in a few years? Thanks for serving

The US is so-post to begin troop with draws next month. I doubt our military will have as much as involvement in Afghanistan in a year. also way to go on bumping an old as fuck thread.
What's the local food like?
Bland. It's usually lamb kabobs, rice, raisins, beans, and homemade flatbread. Pretty much a countrywide poor-people meal. Not bad, but not amazing.

I'm sorry, Afghani food can be incredible. You just haven't been eating at the right places.
werent you that one kid with the caste on his arm and some toy sitting with glasses?
