I'll be pretty fucking disappointed if this just ends up being an ARG for a stupid videogame/product. Three years in the making for such a stupid thing.
Of course, there's also the possibility that someone paid this guy to start doing this ARG thing recently. He didn't necessarily have to start planning this from the beginning.
It's quite possible the dude is into ARGs and realized he has a perfect resource to start his own.

Welp I'm hooked now. Doing a little research, these things fascinate me, regardless of if they end up being nothing at all.
