Moon This is a well known sleeper hit on here but I only just got around to watching it. Why wasn't this a big film when it came out? Why is it still a fairly unknown film even after 3 years of being out? Why are the current top 10 films generally shit? And why are people generally stupid? Moon is a great watch.
I don't know anybody that disliked moon [editline]2nd June 2012[/editline]
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood TV Series: 9/10 Little slow at beginning but the series really picks up around the 15th episode. You know a TV show is good when you do episode by episode all day and stay up till 3:00 am watching it :)
i gone and watched every fma. yeah i know its anime and i normally am opposed to it but you know what, it had a nice story. i liked it.

i thought Moon was better than Source Code
so did everyone. that said, i did like source code too. it was very underrated in mainstream media.
Marie Antoinette Sofia Coppola's film about the iconic French queen to Louis 16th who’s larger than life personality and spending habits became the end of royalty in France is the obvious focus of the film. The first half starts off quite well with a very unusual soundtrack using songs from the 80's like Adam and the Ants and more. Sadly the film makers seemed to have lost their focus half way through with shots of Kirsten Dunst rolling around with her ladies in waiting, giggling in the grass and troughing bon bons like pigs. 2 hours of that does start to get a bit boring. Is it worth your time? Maybe if you’re bored and have nothing else to watch. The mix of French renaissance and 80's music was an interesting idea but wasn’t enough to carry the film for 2 hours. An alternative watch would be The Duchess with Keira Knightly as the Duchess of Devonshire, a far superior film.
i remember having to watch marie antoinette in some history class. it was really frustrating to have to sit through the rich girls fluff and have it end just when it started to get interesting.
I liked all of Coppola's other movies, even "Somewhere" was nice imo, but I'm weary to see that one.
Watched Kagemusha, it was enjoyable. Definitely not what I'm used to but I did see Ran aswell so it wasn't surprising. The sets and costumes are always awesome, can anyone recommend another Akira Kurosawa movie?

If you want a break from his feudal Japan stuff then Dersu Uzala is a great watch. Welcome to the FP Kurosawa fan club.
what about Ikiru?
i just found out about the sequel to Birdemic http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1674047/ i feel so sad for the director, lets just hope it'll be somewhat good as The Room
Saw God Bless America, pretty accurate movie and entertaining. Ending seemed a bit off [sp]I don't know why frank would give her a gun, I get they just wanted a cool finale though. Just felt off.[/sp]
It's fine, I guess, but I expected something different. When I read the premise I instantly imagined [sp]a final confrontation near the end of the movie in which the prisoner finally discovers the imprisoner and they beat the shit out of each other, but that never happens because you get to know who was the bad guy very early. I didn't really enjoy the movie turning into a "why he did it?", I would prefered a "who did it?" during the entire film. [/sp] Also, the reason of why he captured Oh Dae-su was way too stilted (is that the word I'm looking for?) and not very interesting in my opinion. But the film did good, It's just that there were things I didn't like because of personal preferences. By the way, I'm interested on the remake, I want to see how Americans elaborate this story since I can't imagine it outside of Asia.
Oldboy is not your run of the mill vengeance story, sorry about that.
The Awakening - 6/10 It was a decent ghost story I suppose it just wasn't scary.
Irreversible 7.5/10 Didn't drag on in the same way that Enter the Void did
MIB 3, 6.5 out of 10 unlike many other movies that start out great and dont keep up, this one started out as "watchable" and ended pretty good. the ending scenes were pretty clever and intense sadly, it wasnt like this for pretty much 3/4 of the movie
Just come back from the cinema and spent 100 mins in the world of Wes Anderson. Moonrise kingdom is the lastest offering of the quirky film maker and this one has to be his best for me. The story is rather more serious but heartwarming. The tale as usual centers around misfits and by the end you sympathise with all parties concerned. The plot of the film is much better than Anderson's previous films as it relys less on his delivery and more on the story, not to say the film doesn't have his trademark style. Fans of his films will not be disappointed. IMDB rates this as an 8.2 and the cast including Bruce Willis, Ed Norton, Bill Murray and newcomer Kara Hayward help Wes Anderson bring this weird and wonderful world to life. Go to the cinema and watch it, then go to a Chinese resturant and have the steamed seabass in a chilli soup with a side order of plain steamed rice, I did and it was fucking tits. Fuck me with a bag of nails, that was an awesome night out.
I read a newspaper where they called Anderson a hipster. What the fuck? Also Royal Tenanbaums is genuinely brilliant, I'll have to see a couple others of his before I watch the new one.

A cunt must have written that because he's a high quality film maker of unique films. I also watched Before the Devil knows you're dead from the brilliant director Sidney Lumet (Network/Serpico/Dog day Afternoon). This was sadly Sid's last film and a fitting testament to someone taking on film topics that don't always sit well with the good old American identity. Philip Seymour Hoffman and Ethan Hawke play 2 fuck up brothers who get themselves in a mess because of greed and stupidity. Sometimes when watching a film about weak people you can unfairly feel pity for the guilty as though they are actually the victims but Lumet's storytelling spares us the guilt trips and delivers a tale where the consequences of their actions, as they try to fix one fuck up with an even bigger one, are well deserved. Sidney Lumet was a great film maker and we can only hope that directors will still make films like he did, that attack the institutions and structures that make up the fabric of our selfish society.
Prometheus - 7/10.
The Collector - 7/10 It's a pretty awesome movie but the ending is just awful.
Sukiyaki Western Django 9/10 Damn good movie. I loved the whole "Wild East" theme and the action was really awesome. The movie was really original too, but still very familiar, paying tribute to many classic western movies. Plus it had an incredibly odd sense of humour, which I myself found to be hilarious.
Super 8 It's a rainy sunday so I chose to mong out. First 3 quarters reeled me right in but last half hour totally undid the whole thing to the point where I hated it. JJ Abrams, the director, must have watched the Goonies and ET, took the Spielberg formula and made a cheap copy then somehow got him to appear as exec producer for the film. What started out as a fun film turned into a piece of shit. Enigmatic Kaspar Hauser is next up. Wernar Hertzog never lets me down so heres to him.
The Collector - 7/10 It's a pretty awesome movie but the ending is just awful.
Well hopefully the sequel will bring shit together. I like how instead of calling it "The Collector 2", it's called "The Collection".
The Innkeepers [t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/1482927/innkeepers_ver3_xxlg.jpg[/t] (i like the idea of putting posters in our mini reviews it gives our posts more perspective) I really enjoyed it, it had a great combination of quirk and horror. A lot of on screen chemistry from the leads as well as likable characters leads to an emotionally invested "spook fest". Some may find it a little slow or boring but fuck those people they can suck a dick. It was really well done and an all round likable little horror with plenty of originality mixed with the usual horror formula. At some points it becomes so light hearted and charming that you don't expect it to have such gruesome ghosty scenes. 8/10 would recommend and watch again.
saw Punch Drunk Love well.. Adam Sandler has never been given the chance to do something with heart, so on the right off I can see this is probably his defining moment imo. A short movie, representing a romance which is a little insane and confusing but that's love. The conversations they have, or rather in moments the "lack of" show how effective people's connections can be by just how they interact. I only just realised I've seen Emily Watson in a whole load of other movies, she's great in Breaking the Waves. There's not much to her role here, but she made it work in her way. As for the plot, it's ridiculous. And it fits.
Hard Candy - 7/10 I didn't undertand half of the movie, it has a twisty history and has some holes in it
Hard Candy - 7/10 I didn't undertand half of the movie, it has a twisty history and has some holes in it
But still a seven? What were the pros of the movie?
Drama, and somewhat thrilling, and the movie only tells part of the story and you have to understand the other part. But that's a good and bad thing imo.
