The Road
7/10
Ehhh...
Some parts were done really well while some parts were pretty shite.
pretty shite.
stop pretending not to be Finnish. :v:
stop pretending not to be Finnish. :v:
I'm proud to be Finnish and I wouldn't want to be the citizen of any other country.
The Rock 9,5/10
the rock fucking rocks!
saw Punch Drunk Love
well.. Adam Sandler has never been given the chance to do something with heart, so on the right off I can see this is probably his defining moment imo.
A short movie, representing a romance which is a little insane and confusing but that's love. The conversations they have, or rather in moments the "lack of" show how effective people's connections can be by just how they interact.
I only just realised I've seen Emily Watson in a whole load of other movies, she's great in Breaking the Waves. There's not much to her role here, but she made it work in her way.
As for the plot, it's ridiculous. And it fits.
I love this movie
Just got back from watching The Dictator.
7/10. Some of the jokes were hit ([sp]Helicopter scene[/sp]) but there were some seriously failed jokes ([sp]birth scene at the store[/sp] anyone?), which is a shame. Overall though, very enjoyable.
Well Rashomon and Seven Samurai are probably his most famous but theres a few others you might want to start with first like Throne of blood and Sanjuro/yojimo as a double. If you want a break from his feudal Japan stuff then Dersu Uzala is a great watch. Welcome to the FP Kurosawa fan club.
Thanks for the recommendations, just finished Seven Samurai and it was amazingly good. The characters were all great and Kikuchiyo's was hilarious down to his body language.
Movies of the week :
Donnie Darko : 8/10
Road to Perdition (rewatch) : 9/10
3h10 to Yuma (rewatch) : 9/10
Insomnia : 8/10
There will be blood : 9/10
I watched a nice selection of movies this week and wasn't disappointed at all.
I'm watching Anchorman right now
Piranha 3DD - 6/10
This is fun about as dumb as you can get. In fact, I almost expect to see the poster of this pop up next time I google the phrase 'dumb fun'. Story is retarded, characters are one-dimensional but the piranhas look cool and the action is satisfying and concludes with such a ridiculous ending that I honestly can't wait for the next one.
I loved the first Piranha, it's the quintessential horror movie.
The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser
Film made in the 1970's from Wernar Herzog about a man who was locked up for the first 17 years of his life and then just dumped in a village to fend for himself. He can hardly speak, walk or understand whats going on. Most of us will be able to relate to this character from saturday night drinking in the city but this is from the year 1812. The film is pretty much how he reacts to what is put before him by those who are facinated by him.
The texture and delivery of the film is very rough but the story facinating. It's a German language film. I liked it but be warned, the pace is slow.
is it as good as aguirre?
is it as good as aguirre?
Probably not. It has the similar things to it like the abrupt editing which you sort of get used to and the pic quality isn't great but what does carry the film is the central character. The opening scene to Agguire is a sight to behold and a nod to Apocalypse Now. Kaspar has a couple of light comedy moments.
The wiki page on the real Kaspar, the film and the main actor are worth a read after watching it.
ha, Apocalypse Now was a nod to Aguirre not the other way round :v:
I'll take a look at that flick though.
I plan to see last year's "Shame".
Kill List
I honestly can't rate it. I found it confusing, boring at times and didn't understand it at all. It's one of those movies that doesn't explain anything on the surface, you have to think really damn hard and squeeze your brain to get the meaning of it. Dialogues are vague, you're supposed to know about stuff and take wild guesses at what they are mumbling about. Scenes often feel out of place, confusing and the genre is unclear. I don't care enough to watch it again, but it must be either fucking brilliant or total garbage.

it's a film you're supposed to think about. So many things are meant to left to ponder [sp]what's the deal with the cult, why do they crown him, is he in on it, what is on the television with the librarian, why do the victims thank him etc[/sp]
I love movies that make you think, but I suppose it may go overboard
I haven't seen Kill List, so I wouldn't know about that one

For some reason I posted that wrong, you are right. Shame is a great film as long as you don't mind cock on your screen, Fassbender is great as always.

It's probably one of the finest films of last year. Its a thinker because the viewer is left to fill in many of the blanks but the clues are there.
as long as there is no penial dysfunction then it's okay

He passed away, that's why I edited it.
Legend is the definition of someone or a story being highly revered even after death, so for your sentence to work they need to have been regarded as a legend then have that title stripped or forgotten somehow. Whilst in mine he still exists as a legend.
