Bottle Rocket: 7.5/10.
Great characters with a lot of witty dialogue and funny moments.
I like how naive the characters are to life and I love how the film that has absolutely no hints of cynicism in it.
I recommend this film to any fans of Wes Anderson's films, although it can be a bit slow in the middle of the film.
Do yourself a favor and watch Rushmore. It's probably his best.
I'm taking my mom to see Moonlight Kingdom. She's not a huge Wes Anderson fan, but the reviews are incredible so I'll take my chances.
[editline]19th June 2012[/editline]
That's the great thing about Wes Anderson. He somehow captures things in such an absurd and peculiar way, but it still makes you empathetic towards the characters. Like he captures the absurdity of life, exaggerates it, and still proved a point.
I just found about about this "Black Dynamite" film. Seems funny. You guys recommend it?
Black Dynamite is fucking amazing.
Ok, let's looks at some of the questions:
[sp]Were the patterns really an invitation?
How did these ancient people even know about the pattern?
How do they know the engineers created them, and WHY would they even think of that hypothesis?
Why does the old man think he can get eternal life?
What did the infected guy turn into? (the scientist)
And why did one of the infected guys (the scottish one) become a zombie?
Why was he in such an awkward position outside the ship?
What was the worm that came out of the infected scientist's eye?
What was that black goo?
Why did the engineers want to destroy the humans?
What was the alien's motivation?
Why did that guy's head explode?
Why would Vickers have a medical thing in her room that's only for male patients?
Is Shaw going to find her answers?
Why are there so many species of aliens?[/sp]
I'm pretty sure those aren't all the questions
Heres my opinion, subject to change.
[sp]Were the patterns really an invitation?
They were a trap to try out a bioweapon. As soon as humans were developed enough to travel space it was the trigger to test it out.
How did these ancient people even know about the pattern?
Maybe they were still in touch with the aliens in ancient times, maybe the ancients were helping them to develop ahead of animals. The ancient drawings seemed to indicate the ancients worshipped beings from the stars like in stargate.
How do they know the engineers created them, and WHY would they even think of that hypothesis?
They didn't know for sure, it was all guessing and suggestion. There was evidence enough to send a ship to find out
Why does the old man think he can get eternal life?
Because if you were to meet your maker then theres no reason to think your maker couldn't make you young again, it was a chance to live on, he was desperate.
What did the infected guy turn into? (the scientist)
A mong, the dna of the goo was a volatile one and David was testing it to see what it did.
And why did one of the infected guys (the scottish one) become a zombie?
He turned into what the scientist would have done if Vickers hadn't flame grilled him.
Why was he in such an awkward position outside the ship?
He was a modified human with attributes of the alien that attacked him, this is why he had become strong.
What was the worm that came out of the infected scientist's eye?
Perhaps not real or maybe a by product from the mix of alien and human dna.
What was that black goo?
Some kind of organic bioweapon that fucks your anatomy up.
Why did the engineers want to destroy the humans?
They just wanted to test their new weapon but it seemed some of them either had a change of mind or like the captain said, they lost control of it.
What was the alien's motivation?
He was determined to finish the experiment with the bioweapon.
Why did that guy's head explode?
They injected it with something that reacted badly.
Why would Vickers have a medical thing in her room that's only for male patients?
It was for her dad.
Is Shaw going to find her answers?
I doubt Scott is going to do a sequel.
Why are there so many species of aliens?
Because they've been mixed and dna modified. Final alien was a product of scientists fucking and making a new alien and it finally mixing with the engineer. It is clear the matter they are experimenting with is highly adaptable and volatile when mixed with other creatures.[/sp]
Any film that causes so much debate and questions can only be a great film.
I haven't even seen Prometheus and I'm thinking about how to perceive it.
you really ought to go and see it
its a good film that would have been a great film with a better writer
[editline]19th June 2012[/editline]
speaking of michael fassbender i'm gonna watch Shame sometime this week, possibly tomorrow. Heard some interesting things about it.
Shame is great. It's not for everyone though, which is a shame.
my mom conveniently decided to see what i was watching the very moment the shot of those posh people having sex in slow-motion came on
Hostel 2(?) was on TV and my mom walked in just as that crazy naked chick slit the throat of that other naked chick hanging from the ceiling.

think of it as a prequel to alien if alien never had any sequels that tried to establish what the xenomorph was.
Limitless - 7/10. A cool film with fantastic direction, struggled to hold my interest a little towards the end though.

I hope those aren't your personal questions, realistically anyone who asks any of those is kinda dumb.
that's what the movie doesn't answer directly, you have to think for yourself.
some of them, [sp]the black goo being a bioweapon, for example[/sp] are really easy to figure out, but when there's too much of that (even those easy questions), and you're left to do all the brainwork, it's kind of annoying
I think that leaving a few gaps for people to wonder what's going to happen/what has happened is fine, but prometheus may have overdone it.
It's not so much that it left you to think it's that it didn't explain simple and potentially obvious things just leaving you to wonder the whole time instead of paying attention to the film and stuff. And you never know for sure either because it's just what you think. There's nothing wrong with leaving you asking questions in a film, but when it raises points and just disregards them it's really annoying.

I'm sure a bunch of those questions will be answered with an extended version of the film.
I watched Prometheus and have a quarter of a review written, been unfinished for a while lol.
Moonrise Kingdom - 9.5/10
Oh my god that was good. My mom hates Wes Anderson (she didn't like royal tenenbaums) but she really liked it. It's really good. Might be his best one yet. I have almost no complaints. Left the theater feeling very...rested, somehow. Fulfilled.
Some people complained there wasn't really character development, but they're like. 12. There can't be any character development.
Go see it.

Fuck I really want to see this but I don't know anyone that would go with me.
It's heavily implied that he goes back to his life of crime.
Yeah, totally seemed like it. He kinda laughed about the treatment program he got into, only to get out of prison much earlier.
Interesting film indeed :p
John Carter, 2.5/5
Popcorn entertainment for sure, not really something I'd recommend for people wanting a great movie
Legend:
5/10
what the hell is this
Ridley Scott did this??
trainspotting 9/10
obi wan kenobi plays a scottish heroin addict (hurrhurrhurr what else is new)
i liked it
shame
8ish/10
So I went to a preview screening of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and I saw like 10 minutes and the projector fucked up. So we got free tickets to see it tomorrow after they sort it out (I was annoyed as fuck, takes me an hour to walk to the cinema). But first 10 minutes with some weird stuff happening to it or something I don't even know.
I give the first 10 minutes 7/10
MIB3 6/10
I thought it was really cheesy, it had some funny parts which I guess earn it a few points. I didn't like how they suddenly tried to go for a really emotional scene near the end, it felt really unnatural and it was totally out of the blue.
punch drunk love
i love this movie
Just watched Gladiator, and I loved it. Had some very memorable scenes in it, I think it was great.

I hear the director's cut is better.
I watched the directors cut lol
I remember seeing a bit of it. I have to say, I wasn't quite getting what the fuck was happening, maybe I was tired at the time.
Was it meant to be a kids movie?
I guess
I mean they swore a couple times and this swamphag thing gets her head lopped off but other than that the violence isn't graphic at all
its really cheesy and the characters don't react to things like they should and just ugh
maybe i'd have liked it more if i wasn't sick as a dog while watching it??, that's been known to affect my outlook on things in the past, i'll give it another shot once im better
saw a couple this week:
Kinyarwanda
If you've seen Hotel Rwanda, you need to see this as well. It's very different to the feel of Hotel Rwanda, in that it is directly about the pain that was caused by the genocide. Hotel Rwanda was great too, don't get me wrong, I actually felt sick that this occurred in my lifetime.
However, with this representation, it shows the heart of the people, even some who committed those atrocities were shown as people with heart. I really loved this movie, probably more than Hotel, for the shear reality to it. Hotel Rwanda is Africa's Schindler's List, maybe this is Africa's The Pianist.
Take Shelter
Michael Shannon plays a person who has been moved completely by the dreams he has, his fear of the dreams he has about a storm causes him to take action and believe that they're going to happen.
Yes, it sounds kind of cliche, but the performance by this man... wow. Worth watching just for this amazing actor. It isn't all that intense in terms of a psychological drama, but I felt throughout that I wanted to see this through and see how this character unfolds. It isn't a disaster movie in any way, it is in ways a sceptic on what the man sees whether they be coincidental in reality or whether the dreams are a warning for himself.
My interpretation of dreams may in some way be part of why I loved this movie.
