Not for film geeks, it's for those in touch with their absurd side of reality.
so today i watched the dictator
it was pretty funny. its not that the humor was too sophisticated, but i had a
good time and it was very amusing..
this one?
same thing, kuala lumpur is the capital no?
The capital of Singapore is Singapore
The capital of Singapore is Singapore
okay.
And I guess you're gonna tell me that the capital of Luxembourg is luxembourg.
Don't know, ask someone who lives there
I re watched Taken, and then I saw the new trailer for Taken 2.

Looks awesome.
Yeah, nothing happens in the first 30 minutes. But as the awesome audio commentator Ridley Scott says, that's the point.

and you'll be amazed to know that the duct scene was filmed with just 2 cross sectioned set pieces with camera shots to make it a lot bigger than it is.
Yeah I know the ins and outs of this movie like nothing else.
yeah, the fact that nothing happens at first just adds to the tense feeling
I love the slow start to Alien so much, watching everything flicker on and the crew just interacting and going about their tasks.
It really personalizes it so much.
i dunno i keep getting confuse
that's the second time in this thread I've been confused like that, especially since I didn't think the Great Dictator was the best thing ever :/
The Thin Red Line - 3/5 coolio. some really dreamy shots, some sort of weak philosophical stuff, and most importantly it's a war movie that doesn't glorify the action of war which is best :^)
Prometheus 2.5/5 - quite satisfying. first film since the original Alien which didn't try to take a poop on the series. and the robot who has a thing for T.E. Lawrence was a really memorable character.
The Boondock Saints 1/5 - stupidest shit. narrative is totally terrible and so is everything else. the FIRE FIIIIGHT scene was incredibly entertaining though, hence one star.
It's more to do with that you apparently liked the American Grudge, which was a horrible piece of cinema with some of the worst editing that I've seen in ages.
The Japanese Ju-On was much better paced and edited, not to mention that it had a far better atmosphere.
Ok, so, no? That's not right at all. The japanese one had next to no pacing. It was like a compilation of different people who didn't even know eachother getting murdered by the grudge in a different way. The US one had a story, and it wasn't edited badly. Maybe you've only seen the theatrical version which cuts out a lot of things and makes the movie a bit more confusing. Basically blindly defending the japanese version is stupid. It's not good, the japanese original of things are not always good. Besides, the US one IS good and is not poorly edited at all, and I would say it's edited much more competently than the Japanese version.
Alien (Original 1979 Theatrical Cut)- 8/10
I felt that the first half of the movie was incredibly slow, but not in a "oh, the story just needs more details" sort of way, but in a "holy shit, this serves nothing to the story, please get on with it" kind of way.
seriously? compare it to promethuis. a huge, main difference is how they start. in Alien you spend a lot of time with the characters beforehand, and it makes a HUGE difference, because you care about them more when they die. they seem more like real, average people. their dialogue and conversations is so tightly written and believable. it absolutely adds to the film and if you don't think so then you're just wrong I guess.
L.A. Confidential, 8/10

Speaking of that, I absolutely love how they did the hallway fight in Inception. CGI? Camera manipulation? Fuck that, let's flip the goddamn hallway!
Watchmen 8/10 twas good, awesome music brutal fights and interesting plot.
2nd time watching the movie, really want to get around to reading the comic sometime

wow i really hope this gets a cinema release in australia, would love to see it on the big screen.

After the [sp] chestburster scene [/sp], things start to pick up really fast. My little sister even joined in and started watching. I just thought that the landing and taking off sequences were way too long and in the end, they could have cut out about 30 minutes of the movie.
The most impressive part about the film in my opinion was the special effects for the time and especially the set designs. I don't know why, but they just seemed really pleasing to the eyes and fitting for the movie.
The main villain, the alien, was pretty intimidating as well.
My favorite part of the movie was probably the scene in the ducts where one of the crew members go looking for the alien. It was extremely intense and really made you empathize with the characters who had to [sp] watch a close friend of theirs die. [/sp]
At first I thought that I would never watch it again, but I think I might. The blu-ray I bought came with the original version and the director's cut, which, oddly enough, is shorter.
directors cut is the best simply because of the egg morphing scene
also dude, no. the first bit of the film serves to set up the atmosphere of isolation as well as the characters. it serves a purpose.

i hate the found footage trend. it's the worst
The Collector - 5/10
Pretty meh. It did what was expected of a film in its genre but nothing more. The only reason I finished it was because I was bored out of my skull.
i hate the found footage trend. it's the worst
im totally open to a really good one
its just that none of them have been any good so far.

I had a DVD version that didn't have it, but was in the special features. So foolish to cut that scene out, it's amazing.

I've seen whatever version of The Grudge is on DVD and it was most definitely a total nigh incomprehensible mess.
I don't think I'm blindly defending the Japanese version, I mean, I consider it to be one of the scariest movies that I've seen... as for the stories not being recognizably connected, I can't say that I know what you're talking about as it seemed easy enough to follow to me.
Battle Royale
7/10

everybody else seems to think it was very comprehensible.

completely subjective - take away the fear you felt and its a disjointed mess. not to mention that i completely fail to see how you found it remotely scary considering just how comical i found it to be

i'd be happy to watch a good movie, no matter how it's filmed, but i'd rather not have it be a found footage film

Man, I haven't even seen either of these movies in many years, so there's a possibility that I'm remembering things with rose tinted glasses in regards to the Japanese version.
And looking up reviews for the American version, it would seem that it was pretty much universally hated but then again the Japanese version doesn't exactly have stellar reviews either.
Maybe both movies sucked.
Although I found "Prometheus" to be more entertaining, there's no doubt that I liked the characters of "Alien" more.
A lot of the crew members in "Prometheus" were just there to die, it seemed. Especially the [sp] guy who said he wasn't there to make friends.[/sp]
Prometheus is great no doubt about it but you seriously enjoyed it more than Alien????? u really are a film SLACKER

the us grudge definitely has a niche, cult audience. at the end of the day, i just think it created an amazing creepy atmosphere and had some of the more horrifying imagery that still stays with me to this day
I think I'll have to see it again.

I liked this movie. Not all that much but it felt remarkably like a mellow Terence Mallick movie, and for that reason I don't think it stands up as a war movie.
It feels a bit mish mash too. Nowhere near as good as Badlands or whatever.
