Alien (Original 1979 Theatrical Cut)- 8/10
I felt that the first half of the movie was incredibly slow, but not in a "oh, the story just needs more details" sort of way, but in a "holy shit, this serves nothing to the story, please get on with it" kind of way.
After the [sp] chestburster scene [/sp], things start to pick up really fast. My little sister even joined in and started watching. I just thought that the landing and taking off sequences were way too long and in the end, they could have cut out about 30 minutes of the movie.
The most impressive part about the film in my opinion was the special effects for the time and especially the set designs. I don't know why, but they just seemed really pleasing to the eyes and fitting for the movie.
The main villain, the alien, was pretty intimidating as well.
My favorite part of the movie was probably the scene in the ducts where one of the crew members go looking for the alien. It was extremely intense and really made you empathize with the characters who had to [sp] watch a close friend of theirs die. [/sp]
At first I thought that I would never watch it again, but I think I might. The blu-ray I bought came with the original version and the director's cut, which, oddly enough, is shorter.
Everything in the movie is important.

wow i really hope this gets a cinema release in australia, would love to see it on the big screen.
This looks like it could actually be scary...
im totally open to a really good one
its just that none of them have been any good so far.
Chronicle.
I just wish would be done in a style similar to Cloverfield, which was a fairly mediocre movie.
I didn't think Cloverfield perfected anything imo.
Cloverfield was horribly overhyped garbage.
Chronicle 8/10
I really enjoyed it.
i hate the found footage trend. it's the worst
I dunno I really dug Cloverfield, The Blair Witch Project, [Rec.], that one Australian horror film done on a budget of 125k (it was a horrible film but I liked it because I can't really not like movies). VHS looks pretty neat. Which reminds me I gotta get around to watching The Last Broadcast.
Yeah they're really not the greatest films (except for Blair Witch that is almost perfect) but found footage just makes things so much more believable and cool.
Like this shit

Predictable as fuck, not really good at all, but if it was shot with conventional camerawork it wouldn't even be worth a glance because it would be boring as fuck. But found footage makes it more personal, believable even, like you can imagine you and your friends in that kind of situation.

What the fuck is wrong with media tags.
saw Traffic the other day, brilliant.

Chronicle and The Blair Witch Project are good. Cloverfield is okay I guess.
Chronicle
chronicle was a good enough film, sure. but it did in no way benefit nor need the found footage viewpoint.
chronicle was a good enough film, sure. but it did in no way benefit nor need the found footage viewpoint.
It doesn't really benefit, it's just an alternate way of making a movie. It also makes it feel much more personal and real.
it just felt silly and stupid. with how that chick who ran a vlog, had conveniently rigged up her camera in front of her door when that one guy comes unannounced. etc.
Yeah and you can tell as well, it kind of cheated in the whole found footage aspect by using their powers to film stuff all the time which was an aspect of the plot I think the filmmakers just exploited so they can keep it a found footage film, but give it shots that look like they're not found footage?? Which kind of makes me question the point of it at all. Well, other than it's a pretty popular gimmick right now.
shaky cam is nothing new.
But "footage found" is a done to death one.
Ironclad - 6/10
It's pretty okay, I watched it for the score.
I watched that not too long ago, it was ok. Ridiculously fucking violent :v:
Punch-Drunk Love was a pretty weird movie.
Punch-Drunk Love was a pretty weird movie.
Ok.
Now watch Begotten.
The camera in cloverfield was just too shaky.
Okay, it's a handheld camera movie but still it was shaky as fuck.
Punch-Drunk Love was a pretty weird movie.
have i ever talked about how much i love this movie
because i think i should
Saw two films at the cinema today...
Chernobyl diaries:
nothing really new or exciting, standard stranded in scary place film. To anyone who's seen it, did you find the whole [sp]fish[/sp] thing weird? Like they were set up as a big thing but nothing really came of it...
Cosmopolis:
Still trying to decide what I think of this movie, but, the film has...
Full female frontal nudity
Pretty graphic sex scenes
A man being stabbed to death violently in his eye
[sp]a man shooting himself through the hand[/sp]
[sp]a straight up execution, with a man being shot through the chin[/sp]
...and it's rated 15!? I don't think people could make an 18 rated film if they tried.
I liked this movie. Not all that much but it felt remarkably like a mellow Terence Mallick movie, and for that reason I don't think it stands up as a war movie.
It feels a bit mish mash too. Nowhere near as good as Badlands or whatever.
my favourite thing about it was how beautiful the nature shots were, contrasted against the battle scenes. they feel so comforting but then there's this sick anticipation because you're aware that the peace isn't going to last.
Days of Heaven is my favourite Malick experience so far though.
Just got done with Tokyo Gore Police. For an over-the-top, Japan being Japan movie to watch with your mates, it is perfect. I felt that it did exactly what it advertised itself as being. The actual story is decent as well, so there's something else to it besides crazy comical gore.
4/5 will watch again sometime with my friends
Watched Ides of March, superb movie. I would definitely recommend it to others. 9/10
Avengers 8/10 Awesome movie! Just dont like Loki as the main villian.

Wasn't REC shot 'found footage' style? (Or at least, big parts of it)
That was a pretty good film IMO.

Yet to see it, what's your thoughts on Tree of life?
Prometheus 3.5/5
I really liked it. The visuals were amazing. Some of the scenes were fantastic. But it could have been much better. There were some bad plot holes and some of the characters acted very stupidly.
Even after reading extensive walkthroughs that sort out the plot holes, it still asks the questions, "Why did everyone walk out of this movie not knowing that". They had some great ideas, but just didn't convey them in a way that felt fully thought out. My guess is because Scott knew exactly what was going on at any point in the film, he didn't feel like he had to explain some things. A problem with some film makers these days.
Overall it was a good movie, but I feel like it could have been improved. Hopefully the sequel will shed some light on the main ideas of the film.
Seen K-pax and was all nice.Next up on the watch list is offret, last movie tarkovksi ever made.
