Is Mama Mia the movie any good?
Its actually painful to watch, and I'm not being over the top by saying that.
Yeah I hated Eraserhead it was such a drag of a film and had no plot, made no sense. I get that it's "experimental" but it's more just dumb honestly.
Begotten on the other hand I was actually impressed with and thought it was good. I didn't really understand what it meant at first but I looked into it a little bit and it all makes sense and fits together well. I'll need to watch it again since I now know what it all means.
yeah Begotten really is "next level" experimental.
Eraserhead was a bit showy imo.

But Amanda Seyfried
The Amazing Spider-Man - 8/10...
I enjoyed this so much more than Sam Raimi's Spidey, Andrew Garfield was born to play Peter Parker, he made me believe that he was just a teenager who suddenly gets super powers and has to incorporate them into his every day life.
The only thing I'll give Raimi credit for is having better villains... well Doc Ock atleast, since the guy playing the Lizard was just not that great of an actor here, though the scenes with him were fun to watch.
I definitely wouldn't say no to a sequel.
Memento 9.9/10
Troll Hunter 7.9/10
I enjoyed it quite a lot. Normally I don't really like found footage films but atleast with this it was a major part of the plot and not just randomly used for no good reason like in Cloverfield or Chronicle.
Doghouse- 8/10
A british horror-comedy about a bunch of men who have been recently divorced or dumped go on a road trip where they come across a town in the middle of nowhere consisting of strictly female zombies.
It was hilarious.
is this a porno?
Love (2011) 9/10
Its a movie about an astronaut on the ISS who is on a skeleton crew until they send up more guys, then he loses radio contact with Earth. His story parallels with a Union soldier in the civil war because of a diary he finds. Its really amazing, especially how it ends. Great indie film.
The Amazing Spider-Man
like 6/10 or something
they got spidey's character down better this time around, and it was definitely an enjoyable ride, but the pacing was fucked and there were a lot of plot elements that were just kind of dropped and forgotten about
also, there are some convenient plot devices that are just kind of silly and don't make any sense
all in all, worth a watch, but for me the film's flaws took me out of the experience more than I'd be willing to ignore
Super (2010)
7/10 would have rated it higher if they didn't [sp]KILL OFF ELLEN PAGE AT THE END OF THE FUCKING MOVIE[/sp]
I literally screamed what the fuck and was hoping it was an illusion. Ending would have been so much better.
Mystic River 10/10.
I recently watched it again after several years, there's many more details I notice and understand now that I'm older. Eastwood did great directing this and it really touches you on an emotional level not many other movies can. I'm assuming most of you have seen this movie so I wont really delve into the plot. [sp]Jimmy is a fucking prick[/sp]
Ronin - 7/10
It was a pretty good film overall but the car chases really stole the show. Honestly the only films that come close to them were the Bourne films.

Why? Although it sort of came out of nowhere, it didn't seem like such a terrible thing to me.

Shooter 7/10
Surprisingly good. Didn't have any expectations going into it, but it turned out to be fun, interesting plot too.
Why? Although it sort of came out of nowhere, it didn't seem like such a terrible thing to me.
Maybe it was because I felt they were likable characters. I felt like the ending would have been more appealing, instead of having Frank [sp]end up living by himself with the rabbit, he could have ended up living with Libby and be happily ever after.[/sp] Maybe it's just that I don't watch too many movies.
Could have lined the movie up for a sequel as well, assuming it did well enough to deserve one. However, it seems like it doesn't really need one. Cheesy as fuck, but I liked it.
Why? Although it sort of came out of nowhere, it didn't seem like such a terrible thing to me.
I like that it came out of nowhere. It made it a sort of "Oh shit!" moment. If there was something leading up to it, it would have lost its impact.
Amadeus - 10/10
Brilliant movie, easily one of the best films i've seen.
You should check out Immortal Beloved if you liked Amadeus. It's about Beethoven, mostly his romantic life with a side of mystery. Very well done and pretty sad.

I just don't like cool characters dying :(
Super 8/10
I just watched because RedBadger reminded me I had not seen it. It is A LOT better then I was thinking. Cheese as hell at some points, but I am sure that is what they are going for. Laughed harder then I had in a while and [sp]got really sad because of how depressing it is[/sp]
Salt - 6.5/10
it was ok, nothing special about it
Drive: 9.99/10
Just watched it after putting it off for a little while because my brother said it was boring and took too long to get into it, but I thought it was amazing, it dragged a bit much at points but not so much that it got boring, and that motel scene, holy fuck that motel scene. The weird silence was just so obscure, and the long pauses just made the character feel so distant but cool, amazing movie.
As it is relevant to the previous posts, Drive and Super were two of the best films from 2011
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy - 8/10
Was a good movie, loved the atmosphere, though the plot was a tad difficult to follow at points ( for me that is, maybe some of you guys watched it and had an easier time following it ), it does flashbacks in an odd way, though overall I enjoyed it.
Wild Grass
The film combines both elements of surrealism and unanimism which creates a unique vibe to the movie that director Alain Resnais displays throughout. The film leaves a lot of interpretation to viewer and make take some time to settle in or another viewing to grasp the film. I would recommend this film if you are a fan of Alain Resnais.
As it is relevant to the previous posts, Drive and Super were two of the best films from 2011
Eh, super wasn't that incredible. Its good, but not really incredible.
Ted
Rev up those dumb ratings Rusty
3.5/5
I thought it was hilarious. Of course it's not a groundbreaking comedy or anything. But I went to see a vulgar bear and his human friend get into mischief and that's exactly what I got. There were some big laugh out loud moments, some great cameos, and even some touching moments.
And yes, although it's not the greatest thing in the world, I do enjoy Family Guy.
Also funny thing. My local cinema tracked down a HD copy of the old Flash Gordan trailer and played it before the movie so that people that hadn't seen it would get the cameo.

The Amazing Spider-Man - 9/10
Solid movie. Some cheesy parts but that's expected.
Batman Gotham Knight (it came with the collector's edition of Arkham City but I completely forgot about it until tonight)
This is the first blu ray I've ever watched, and on an HD TV to boot (we are living in the future), it looked good I guess.
Though the description says "6 interlocking stories, 6 acclaimed directors, one groundbreaking masterpiece", I can't say that I realised the stories were meant to be connected, each one had allusions to the previous, but they worked just as well as stand alone shorts.
I'll review each segment separately:
Have I Got A Story For You - 4 skater kids get together and tell each other about how they've seen Batman. The first recalls how he was about to be killed by a mystery assailant when suddenly Batman appeared from the shadows and saved him. The kid's description of Batman is essentially a sentient shadow, able to disappear and reappear at will. There's a short skirmish between the two until the villain uses some sort of light grenade and jumps into a river.
[img_thumb]http://porkcutlets.files.wordpress.com/2008/07/batman.png?w=500&h=285[/img_thumb].
The next kid, an annoying sassy black girl says that she saw Batman earlier, fighting that same bad guy (this time he has a jet pack). She annoyed me so I didn't really listen to her, something about him being a bat and then he cut off the bad guy's head but she was lying blah blah blah
[img_thumb]http://ecentral.my/archives/2008/8/3/movies/sv_pg07josh.jpg[/img_thumb]
The third kid says both of them are wrong, he saw Batman before both of them when he was on the viewing deck of a skyscraper. The villain made his appearance, attempting to rob everyone at the top of the building (why?). Batman came along and he was a robot and it was awesome.
[img_thumb]http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-awgab-dC5v4/T4OhrQtzrjI/AAAAAAAAAds/_5XRBDdCpr0/s1600/Have+I+Got+a+Story+for+You.png[/img_thumb]
Cut back to the present, the fourth kid is upset that he's never got to see anything exciting like that. Suddenly, the windows shatter and the earth quakes because in comes fucking Fatman. The final reveal of what Batman actually looks like and he's some chubby guy in a costume. Anyway he's fighting the mystery guy and then there's some smoke and the 4th kid saves him. Whatever.
[img_thumb]http://www.rockinginhakata.com/wp-images/batmanA02.jpg[/img_thumb]
The story was pretty good (although it's been done before) and the city looked absolutely great, but I didn't like the way the characters were designed and the cake crusader at the end took the biscuit, probably literally. Robot Batman saves this from being 5/10. This one was animated by Studio 4°C
6/10
Crossfire
Two police people that work for Gordon are charged with taking a recently apprehended arkham patient to prison. On the way the two cops get into an argument about whether Batman's good or not, can he be trusted etc. One says he's made gotham a better place, the other says he's nothing more than an untrustworthy vigilante. Anyway, on the way back from dropping the weirdo off, the guy who doesn't trust Batman is all like "this job's too stressful, I'm leaving". The woman police officer that likes batman stops the car and has a go at him. Turns out she stopped right in the middle of what is about to be a gang war between a russian and an italian. Their car gets shot to pieces, Batman comes and saves them, the guy realises he's alright after all, everyone lives happily ever after.
I think this was my favourite one. The animation was great (this time provided by Production I.G. famous for Ghost in the Shell). I knew that Madhouse had animated a couple of these shorts, and until I checked later I thought this was one of them. The characters and their movements were very reminiscent of those from Death Note, especially the psycho criminal (who, though I don't think it was explained well enough, was the guy Batman had been fighting in the last short). I liked the story of this one, it was simple and to the point. I don't trust Batman, I am dying, Batman saved my life, I trust Batman.
The characters looked great, in my opinion.

Field Test
This one is animated by Bee Train.
This is Bruce Wayne

This is Batman

The story is some shit about a device which deflects bullets and then batman uses it and the bullet hits someone else and he gets upset.
3/10
In Darkness Dwells
I had high hopes for Madhouse's designs after Crossfire, straight off the bat (no pun intended) I was disappointed, Batman just didn't look right again.
[img_thumb]http://media.animevice.com/uploads/1/13301/249510-in_darkness_dwells_2.jpg[/img_thumb]
Never mind I thought, the crazy characters will look better surely, and this is the short with Scarecrow so the effects of his toxin are going to look awesome.
They don't. Scarecrow looks fine, nothing groundbreaking
[img_thumb]http://www.theicecave.org/damage_control/multimedia/batmangkpic4.png[/img_thumb]
but the rest of the characters are unremarkable and when we see the world through Batman's eyes after Killer Croc (who has the fear toxin running through his veins) bites his shoulder, it's just a bit blurry and they very unconvincingly superimpose blue maggots on top of scarecrows face.

Killer Croc. He shows up for about a minute.
The story was just about some priest that got kidnapped and taken into the sewers by scarecrow. Batman saved him.
6/10
Working Through Pain
Batman gets shot, has flashbacks about his time helping wounded people in Africa and learning something about pain management from an Indian(?) woman.
Animated by Studio 4°C again, I much preferred it to their first effort.
Anyway, it ends with Batman down in the sewers. Alfred comes to rescue him, he says "Give me your hand" and Batman who is carrying loads of guns that he just found"I can't". It was stupid.
[img_thumb]http://abuggedlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/gotham_night.jpg[/img_thumb]
7/10
Deadshot
Animated by Madhouse and this time done better.
Bruce Wayne looks like a man
[img_thumb]http://i.ytimg.com/vi/kPwG0Q4tr2o/0.jpg[/img_thumb]
Batman looks a bit better than in "In Darkness Dwells"
[img_thumb]http://famousmonstersoffilmland.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/batman-gotham-knights-2.jpg[/img_thumb]
The scenery looks amazing
[img_thumb]http://api.ning.com/files/7f3dhquobn6dyKod*hVVklcUEKwkbrnJPsDgJgwCDvlf9ZkQTWRjgx0X5s**YoD*XUHj6xe50TVirBSvlcpYmUCzMvGHhBlo/S6Ferris_Fireworks.jpg[/img_thumb]
and Deadshot looks alright
[img_thumb]http://media.animevice.com/uploads/1/13301/248147-05_super.jpg[/img_thumb]
The story is that Deadshot is tasked with killing Batman. To do this he goes after Gordon. He shoots at him from a moving train but Batman deflects the bullet and lands on top of the train. Deadshot is like "You fell into my trap" and then starts shooting at him. Batman runs straight at him for some reason and gets shot and falls off the train. Deadshot leans over to say some victory speech or whatever and then Batman is behind him and beats him up. Afterwards Bruce tells Alfred that he's still upset about his parents.
7.5/10
So overall, that's about 6/10. Watch it if you want.
What's Eating Gilbert Grape
yeah this is truly early Dicaprio. Ridiculously early in fact that I could barely recognise him, and what a performance. I'm not kidding, what he does in this movie is something I didn't expect from a young kid. I didn't bother reading the backstory so it came as a bit of a shock.
Early Johnny Depp was pretty inspired too until he did Fear and Loathing and turned a little insane (still a worthy actor).
It's not drenched in depressive tones like I had expected, it's more a "post-80s" positive vibe that I get here. It's hard to describe but that's the first impression. Whether people will enjoy it, I'm not sure I care because you'll only want to watch it for the character build up and an inspired actor in DiCaprio from his really early years.

That movie surprised me. DiCaprio was really convincing.
I'm still struggling to get my head around how Dicaprio managed to do that. This is the man who only a few years later did Titanic. :v:

DiCaprio has down's syndrome in the film, making him very likable and optimistic
