J Edgar 2012
Clint Eastwood once again delivers an absorbing film about a man whose life was his job and who surrounded himself with yes men to the point of believing his own spin. Hoover historically is quite a controversial figure and it would be easy to make a film like 'W' where the story is reduced to bashing him but Eastwood isn't the kind of director to sink to such levels.
The film is quite slow moving and focuses on the man's rhetoric and beliefs mixed with his personal relationships with those around him. Naturally much of this is speculation but overall I thought the film was fantastic. The cast are solid. Somehow Clint Eastwood has become a master of his craft. Who would have thought an old gunslinger would turn out to be a master of subtlety and depth.
My only thought at the end was that although DiCaprio was great, his performance reminded me very much of his role in the Aviator. Can he start to take on roles of more diversity? Will he keep taking roles of flawed iconoclasts or maybe do a movie about a simple man.
Gilbert Grape came up the other day here, I wonder if he could still pull something like that off.
The Matrix Trilogy: 8/10.
I know I know a lot of people dislike them but for some reason I find them really entertaining. Especially the background, with the whole machine war and all.
Kick-Ass - 8/10
I kind of expected what was going to happen, but that didn't ruin the movie for me. I enjoyed most of the movie. Looking forward to the sequel.
Whip It - 7.5/10
This movie surprised me. I only really watched it because there was nothing else good on the television. The premise of the movie sounded really cheesy at first, but I was pleasantly surprised, because it was a fun movie with a great cast of characters. I came in thinking it would be okay, at best. I came out loving the movie and the characters.

The reason people hated the afterbirth was because they didn't hit hard like the first. When watching the original you have no idea whats about to happen whereas the second and third films were a mop up of how the story was going to end. Sequels rarely work.
Get the Gringo, 7/10
I quite liked it, even though I was expecting a total piece of generic shit. It's not amazing, but it's definitely worth a watch.

Planet of the Apes (1968): 7/10
Pretty dated, but it's still fun to watch and is a great classic sci-fi film.
21 Jump Street - I really enjoyed it, 9/10
get the gringo was a solid movie. it's just a shame there wasn't that much to it. i'd give it a high 7 out of 10
I agree, I love the setting, that kind of Hispanic prison setting like in Prison Break is really interesting to see, I just wish they would have developed more on that, he got beat once and then he was set, it doesn't feel like it should be that easy for a white guy in that kind of prison, he seemed like the only one aswell, so you would think he would be more of an outcast than just being called a gringo, it could have added a bit more depth to the whole film imo
Savages: 8/10, very good movie.
Within the last month I've watched three great films for the first time.
Apocalypse Now, The Godfather and Casino. Tens for each of them obviously.
Thanks for the Apocalypse Now suggestion/mention. That movie is a trip.
I also saw The Untouchables which was meh.
How to train your dragon - 8/10
better than I thought it'd be, thought it was just another overrated movie
The Amazing Spider-Man - 8/10
Didn't have high hopes but turned out pretty amazing. CGI was very well done and Andrew Garfield is a much better choice (imo) to play the role than Tobey Maguire.
Eyes Wide Shut (Uncut)- 10/10
Still one of my favorite movies of all time.
The Shining and 2001 are the only Kubrick movies I have seen, which other ones should I see. Don't say all of them because fuck if I can be bothered.
The Shining and 2001 are the only Kubrick movies I have seen, which other ones should I see. Don't say all of them because fuck if I can be bothered.
A Clockwork Orange and Full Metal Jacket are my favorite Kubrick films.
I also like Space Odyssey, but I wouldn't say it's for everybody. Most of the people I know were put off by it's slow pace, arty scenes, and confusing ending.
The Ides of March - 10/10. Those performances holy hell.
Transformers: Dark of the Moon. 2/10.
Just watched it the first time on Netflix. This review is being done as I watch it. I'm sorry if this is long.
The first hour is just absolute horseshit. Made me cringe at every stupid dialogue. The cuts are horrible, scenes do not flow. It feels like it was put together with safety scissors and a glue stick. Why does Sam touch Bumblebee like a dog or something? [sp]The awful scene where they go into a backalley bar is cringeworthy. Scenes with Shia and that new chick are just crap, wouldn't even call it acting. Ironhide dies in front of Sam's face and he screams for Bee, what?Stupid plot twists such as Sentinel going against the autobots to save their planet and the rich guy with the cars is also on the side of the Decepticons. Human scenes are just terrible.[/sp] These new Autobots have no character, they're just there to show cars. Sam's screams are getting obnoxious.[sp] When the hell did the US government decide to exile the Autobots out of the blue? Stupid plot devices created like the watch decepticon to put this piece of shit movie together.[/sp] John Turturro, please stop doing this to yourself. [sp]This stupid rich guy is just completely one dimensional, you know Megatron will not keep his word. Where the fuck are the Autobots? I know they are alive after the space rocket blew up, there is 1 more hour of this shit.[/sp] Finally the Autobots come out of nowhere, you know, just in time to save Sam. Good fucking job Autobots, the city is already more than half destroyed. [sp]How the hell is Bumblebee able to get into that spaceship thing? He's as big as that ship.[/sp] These autobots love to come out of nowhere to save Sam's ass. No sign of Optimus, that's hilarious. And now suddenly the autobots are captured, how fucking useful they are. Sam's screams for Optimus for the hundredth time in the series. [sp] Do we really need a human villain? I mean really, is the Decepticons not enough? Megatron was killed quite quickly and so was Sentinel and all it took was a one armed Optimus.[/sp] Wow this movie suddenly ends out of nowhere. This movie is a train wreck. This movie gets a 2 for having some decent visuals, and that's about it.
Why... this movie may be the most... Horrible! Putrid! Poorly prepared! Vile! Unappetizing! Disgusting excuse for a movie that has ever been my displeasure to have been viewed by many. And I curse this terrible movie and all who enjoy it to an early and well- deserved grave!
The Amazing Spider-Man
9/10

I recently watched Clockwork Orange found it pretty damn amazing.
I need to watch Full Metal Jacket, honestly cannot remember if I ever seen it. I've been putting off Space odyssey since I want to read the book first, and that'll be a while. I want to go through the Enderverse first. Finished Speaker of the Dead earlier today and damn that was good.
I listen to the audiobooks and at the end it had a small 5 minutes with the author(Orson Scott Card). After hearing why he wanted to write the book I looked back on the events in the book I was speechless.
The Amazing Spiderman - 8/10
Better than expected.
I watched The Intouchables yesterday - it was great. I enjoyed every second of it
spider mannn
7/10, i liked it. but it's plagued by script issues, such as everything being wayy too convenient, and character decisions being a little odd.
http://rustysreviews.blogspot.com.au/2012/07/amazing-spider-man-2012.html
Never seen Spider Mannn before, is that the film where he learns how important the N is?
Eh i thought Spiderman wasnt too great, i liked how close it stuck to detail and the original comics but the other spiderman's just are better for me
Seems like Spiderman has surprised a few on its release. I saw a trailer for it at the Prometheus showing and the 3D looked amazing. The 10 minute ad told me the whole story so there isn't really anything to see now other than 3D gymnastics.
I probably wouldn't give a shit about this anyway, redoing this after the other one so soon is lazy. America needs to be more creative and original.
The Shining: 6/10. It was a rather good movie, but it was not as scary as people made it out to be. I sometimes felt that the movie couldn't really take itself seriously. And I found it a bit surprising that it had a [sp]pretty "happy" ending[/sp], which is rather uncommon for horror movies.
And some things just disappeared from the story without any real explanation, the twins just appear a couple of times and stare at Danny for a while and then just disappear. [sp]Tony is never explained; which I thought was needed due to all the buildup around Dannys split personality.[/sp]
I'm pretty sure you didn't really understand the movie
The Shining and 2001 are the only Kubrick movies I have seen, which other ones should I see. Don't say all of them because fuck if I can be bothered.
You should watch all of them, though.
Probably, I don't think much when I watch movies.
Or in general.
[editline]10th July 2012[/editline]
Wait what, why are you rating me hearts? "Or in general" was just a joke, you don't have to feel bad for me. But it's still true that I don't really think much about what I'm watching. I just use movies (And other kinds of media) as a way to "turn off" my brain and distract myself from my problems for a while.
So cute.
I'll spit out numbers without reasons because I suck at giving reviews.
Brave: 8.5/10
And don't hate me but Ted: 7.5/10
Ted rocks
Didn't just watch it but I was reminded, Paperman was a great movie, sort of a second coming of age movie, I really enjoyed it.
