2046 (2004) Made in Honk Kong and done like French film noir which was confirmed at the end when I saw a pile of French names in the credits, I feel quite smug about that but anyway. The film follows a womaniser who writes and thats about as much as I understand about the last 2 hours sat in front of the TV. Lead comes from Tony Leung Chiu-Wai who was brilliant as the main character, much of the acting done with his face. Support came from the young Crouching Tiger actress and a few others. One of the best parts of the film is its soundtrack and score. The music is used to great effect with Bellini and excellent in film compositions inserted in just the right spots to compliment the scenes. Did I like this film? I don't know yet but what I do know is I've got no idea what it was all about. I shouldn't have to wander the web for an explanation but lets see what it throws up. This film is not for everybody. Edit: It's a fucking sequel, everything suddenly fits into place.
It wasn't the worst thing I've ever seen or anything, but it still wasn't great. I hate the fact that they felt the need to include one of those "let's stretch this scene out for as long as possible" ~jokes~.
Did they seriously do that in the movie. I refuse to believe it is anything above a 5/10.
Transformers: Dark of the Moon. 2/10. Just watched it the first time on Netflix. This review is being done as I watch it. If sorry if this is long. The first hour is just absolute horseshit. Made me cringe at every stupid dialogue. The cuts are horrible, scenes do not flow. It feels like it was put together with safety scissors and a glue stick. Why does Sam touch Bumblebee like a dog or something? [sp]The awful scene where they go into a backalley bar is cringeworthy. Scenes with Shia and that new chick are just crap, wouldn't even call it acting. Ironhide dies in front of Sam's face and he screams for Bee, what?Stupid plot twists such as Sentinel going against the autobots to save their planet and the rich guy with the cars is also on the side of the Decepticons. Human scenes are just terrible.[/sp] These new Autobots have no character, they're just there to show cars. Sam's screams are getting obnoxious.[sp] When the hell did the US government decide to exile the Autobots out of the blue? Stupid plot devices created like the watch decepticon to put this piece of shit movie together.[/sp] John Turturro, please stop doing this to yourself. [sp]This stupid rich guy is just completely one dimensional, you know Megatron will not keep his word. Where the fuck are the Autobots? I know they are alive after the space rocket blew up, there is 1 more hour of this shit.[/sp] Finally the Autobots come out of nowhere, you know, just in time to save Sam. Good fucking job Autobots, the city is already more than half destroyed. [sp]How the hell is Bumblebee able to get into that spaceship thing? He's as big as that ship.[/sp] These autobots love to come out of nowhere to save Sam's ass. No sign of Optimus, that's hilarious. And now suddenly the autobots are captured, how fucking useful they are. Sam's screams for Optimus for the hundredth time in the series. [sp] Do we really need a human villain? I mean really, is the Decepticons not enough? Megatron was killed quite quickly and so was Sentinel and all it took was a one armed Optimus.[/sp] Wow this movie suddenly ends out of nowhere. This movie is a train wreck. This movie gets a 2 for having some decent visuals, and that's about it. Why... this movie may be the most... Horrible! Putrid! Poorly prepared! Vile! Unappetizing! Disgusting excuse for a movie that has ever been my displeasure to have been viewed by many. And I curse this terrible movie and all who enjoy it to an early and well- deserved grave!
Dark of the Moon isn't that bad, christ. Just because it's a Michael Baysplosion transformers movie doesn't mean it's the worst movie ever made. [editline]11th July 2012[/editline] still sucks but not a 2, maybe a 4.

[editline]11th July 2012[/editline] still sucks but not a 2, maybe a 4.
I watched a review where one critic sidelined it with star-wars. As in, it'll have serious consequences for cinema and it's already ongoing. Star-Wars was awesome and brought a lot of good shit. Transformers is all about wow-factor and nothing else. Her point was that it's a trend that's ruining cinema and the ripples are spreading fast from those films specifically. It might turn shit if every movie ever has to have random explosions everywhere. I mean. It's going to be the 80s times 80. Just 80 times less appropriate and 80 less awesome than that. Even if you multiply that with 80, It's still just 0,0125. Cinema risk being reduced to 0,0125 Thanks to Michael Bay... He's just a glorified Uwe Boll. But Uwe Boll could only reduce it to 35 with the same influence. That's how dangerous it is.
Hanna 9/10. Great movie that flips the roles of a common action movie. If you look at it from the perspective of the girl (which you should) The action was when she was going through the areas and experiencing things she never knew of before. The moment in the room with the guy who speaks Arabic was extremely well done and because of the wonderful soundtrack it was easy for them to give the sounds and lights a new meaning. It must truly be overwhelming for someone to come from a distant/cut off section of the world into the city life that has electricity and all the fixings, not to mention the fact that it seems the girls only human contact before the events in the movie was with her father.
I just use movies (And other kinds of media) as a way to "turn off" my brain and distract myself from my problems for a while.
horrible horrible horrible you can think deeply about a movie and still use it to avoid your own problems. if anything, I think focusing on the details of a movie will help you lose sight of your own problems even more as you have a lot of other stuff to think about instead. I watched Phantom of the Opera tonight. The silent movie from 1925 starring Lon Chaney. This was my first time actually seeing the whole Phantom of the Opera story, not some parody or shortened version. It was really cool, and of course the makeup effects on Lon Chaney were great. I really wasn't expecting it to be so jarring when his face was revealed. Also, an interesting thing: There's just one scene in the movie that happens to be in full color. That was probably the most unexpected thing about it. I never thought there were any movies from the silent era with full color at all. I guess if I had to give it a number it'd be like a 9.5/10. But maybe I just rate it so high because I just finished watching it.That tends to happen.
Senna 10/10 Amazing, that is all I can say.
How To Train Your Dragon 8/10 I would give it a 10,but it had the cliché [sp] Is the main character dead?? NO HE ISN'T! crowd: YAY![/sp] and also the cliché heroic music. Overall it was a fucking awesome movie
The Fifth Element - 7/10 I decided to check it out after a FPer posted a clip of it, it was pretty good.
It's really fucking bad, dude.
In comparison to other movies, it really isn't.
In comparison to other movies, it really isn't.
Getting punched in the dick is not bad compared to being shot in the face but that doesn't mean getting punched in the dick is not bad.
Getting punched in the dick is not bad compared to being shot in the face but that doesn't mean getting punched in the dick is not bad.
I can't believe I'm defending this movie but I never said it's not bad just that it's not a 2/10.
It really isn't that bad, everyone is just over critical. I thought it was pretty entertaining. It wasn't some deep, amazing film, I didn't expect it to be. If you went to watch it expecting the film of the century, of course you were disappointed. It was just a bit of fun with robots and explosions, which is fine.

It's nearly 3 hours long which is fucking ridiculous when there's nothing to get you invested in it for that long.
Who fucking cares, some of you hate Transformers and some of you don't. This picking on the details of posts bores me off these boards. Arguing on internets is like winning at special olympics, nobody cares.
You must be a real platitudinous person.
A scanner darkly - 9/10 I watched this when I was like 16 and had no real understanding of substance abuse or the war on drugs, watched it purely for animation appreciation. Now I'm 19, I fucked myself up temporarily on stims, I understand the futility of drug wars, and I've read the book. I get it now.
watched Vera Drake well, I made a mistake going into this without reading up about what it's about. All I know was that I wanted to see it then forgot what it was. Well it's a British film set in the 50s, starts very much positively in its distinct British aesthetic. Very familiar too. Then it starts to "become" what it's about.. and it made me feel sick. It's about a woman giving illegal abortions to women. It's horrid in the way they pierce your heart like they do here. It plays with innocence and just plain wrongness. Not too painful, but painfully depressive. [editline]12th July 2012[/editline] brilliant acting too, each character was performed with such natural ease I was amazed. It drew me in further and made the 2 hours very easy imo.
It really isn't that bad, everyone is just over critical.
you know, its funny, because my coworker and i had an argument about this not to long ago "why criticize movies, why cant you just enjoy them?" this is a really fucking stupid line of thinking being critical of films is how you learn to appreciate films. You get more from films by being critical. I guess its alright if you personally want to watch stupid bullshit and not think about anything ever and be all like YAY OPTIMUS PRIME STOPPED THE BAD GUY 10/10 but you cant go out and accuse the people who thought it was shit of having something wrong with them because of it, that's dumb [editline]11th July 2012[/editline] Also, I watched TED yesterday, it was ok I guess, I didn't hate it as much as I thought I would. Most of the jokes were unfunny, but I got a few laughs out of it. [editline]11th July 2012[/editline] Maybe like a 5-6/10

Looking for a great black and white movie, The only black and white I have watched fully is casablanca, I didn't really get it and was really just watching to pretend I had taste, or something I need a black and white movie that I can enjoy as much as a modern day flick
Looking for some nice, romance comedy/drama movies. Any recs? Watched the original Spider-Man trilogy. Spider-Man 3 wasn't as bad as I remember it. It's probably because whenever someone brings up the 3rd movie, the emo parker scene is the only thing anyone remembers. Spider-Man: 8/10 Spider-Man 2: 9/10 Spider-Man 3: 7/10
