Rum Diaries
Well anyone expecting a follow up to fear and loathing is in for a disappointment because its a different film. Thats fine for me because although I accept the genius of Terry Gilliams, Hunter S Thomson tribute, I still hated watching it. That doesn't mean the Rum Diaries is any better. The story was pointless, what little there was, and the characters far too weak to carry the film. The performances were more than good enough but the script gave them nothing to entertain or absorb us with.
A totally pointless film with no focus other than to satisfy Johnny Depp's obssession with Thomson. I don't like Hunter S Thomson anyway, he was hugely over rated and of his time. I don't feel his satire, political sideswipes or zany life is worthy of such attn. This film was totally boring and I recommend not watching it.
finished watching Mike Leigh's Naked.
Great film. The second of his movies I've seen and the director really does get in touch with his characters. The movie feels natural because it just is, and it's not to say that "the actors are like that anyway", it's truly like these people completely absorbed into these people naturally.
It's hilarious and yet tormenting.
Drive: 9/10
Damn, that movie was good.

7/10
A story of an aging womanizer and an inexperienced young woman as they both find love for the first time. Set on the backdrop of a town whose residents have yet to grasp what it means to grow old, lovely shots of beautiful North Carolina along with some gentle music set the mood for this tale of first love. Minus three points because of some really shoddy acting which sucked out the drama in pivotal scenes.
Days of Heaven
The cinematography is picturesque and serene painting a vivid landscape of turn 20th century farm life in a romantic style. The dialogue did not really stand out but the story was moderately compelling. What did distinguish this movie though was the simple but vast landscape and atmosphere of the farm.
The Amazing Spider-Man - 7/10
A bit disappointed with this reboot as it didn't really bring anything new. Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man isn't as relatable as McGuire's portrayal in Spider-Man 1 and 2, but I did like how humorous he was in this one.
The Grey - 7.5/10
Classic man vs. nature story. Pretty scary at times. Liam Neeson's a badass, as usual.
Misery - 9/10
I haven't been so tensed at a film in a while. I cringed whenever James Caan's character was injured and he does get injured a lot in this movie. Kathy Bates' performance is pretty unsettling, and the thing about her character is that she's a psychotic hyperbole of someone you probably know in your life, such as your mom, your aunt, your girlfriend.
Boys Don't Cry - 10/fuck i'm a pussy i'm crying goddamit.
Faster - 3/10
Boring and I hated pretty much every single character and few scenes were completely ridiculous. Especially when a [sp]tiny metal plate saves his live by stopping a MOTHERFUCKING BULLET AT CLOSE RANGE[/sp]
The Amazing Spiderman
3.5/5
It was pretty good, but not as good as I'd expect it to be considering that the original movie came out not long ago. I thought they would have put in something to make it really stand out. I listed a couple of things that I felt wrong with it in the thread.
Basically it did suffer from origin story syndrome. If Garfield stops mumbling then the sequel should be fantastic.

Ye I watched that again yesterday. Love it so much. The plot and premise are pretty standard Hollywood really. It's all in the direction and acting. Being someone interested in directing and camerawork, I really loved watching all these shots totally defy the Hollywood standard. Could go on and on about how genius the directing of Drive is. best film of last year and one of the best films of the 2000's.
All this praise for Moonrise Kingdom makes me want to check it out. I haven't heard one bad thing about it yet.
As there shouldn't be.

It was... Decent, for it's time. I mean, how they crumpled the car up, then popped it back out. Was pretty neat, still wondering how they did it.
[sp]Bitch in the car starts feeling up his junk and immediately says she can't do anything, and runs out from the car. What the hell man ;_;[/sp]

You know, you could just rate people 'disagree' when you don't agree with their opinions about a movie.
Whenever I see someone rate a movie highly, and I've seen the movie myself, and it wasn't quite the best movie ever, I can always tell who that lonesome box is from.
are you really complaining about ratings

if i think a movie isn't just bad, but also really dumb, then i'll rate it accordingly
The Secret in Their Eyes (2009)
What has Argentina given the world? Economic ruin, dirty football and a current president who is pointlessly using the Falkinds to whip up nationalism to get herself re-elected.... and this film which is quite a shock considering the above.
This story starts with a retired prosecutor in the courts who has questions about an old case which is hampering a novel he's trying to write so he starts looking into the past.
I wasn't expecting much but the story was fantastic, there are two intertwined stories that are driven by the same thing and as the films characters have revelations, the theme of the film becomes clearer. So many thrillers are films by numbers but somehow this one uses a much more delicate undertone to hold it up above its counterparts.
I recommend this film, AK should like this one, assuming you have not already seen it.
definitely will take a look.
will watch El Topo tonight.
