Watched Drag Me To Hell last night I liked it, glad to see Sam Raimi return to horror. Definitely could tell that it was Raimi directing it, some really nice camerawork as expected, pretty reminiscent of Evil Dead (II mostly) in that way. (also noticed an evil dead reference when the [sp]anvil or whatever comes down on the woman's head and her eye shoots into Christine's mouth)[sp] and also a really blatant Psycho reference when she [sp]murders the cat, I noticed it was a psycho reference before she even brought up the knife :v:[/sp] And the ending was really good. Classic Raimi black comedy. [sp]just knew there was no way Raimi would let her get away with it all, it was obvious he was having too much fun just pissing with her :v:Would have been a pretty shitty ending had she actuallly escaped honestly, due to the whole tone of the film and its being about just punishing her relentlessly[/sp]
Saw The Amazing Spider-Man today. It wasn't very good. Felt like it was directed by some CEO with a checklist (Love story, check. Patriotic scenes, check. Motivational monologue, check.) The scene with the cranes was so cringeworthy.
Lockout 8/10
This movie was not great at all, i would give it a 6/10 max. Some bad CGI with a rushed ending and a lazy plot. The only good thing in it is Guy Pierce.

woah Ebert rated Dark Knight Rises 3/4 Stars! He rated the first two 4 out of 4. This doesn't do good things for me since I relate to a lot of the things he says.
Ebert is literally the only reviewer who I actually pay attention to because he watches them for what they are and isn't a retarded film elitist who hates all cinema like every other reviewer
Ebert is literally the only reviewer who I actually pay attention to because he watches them for what they are and isn't a retarded film elitist who hates all cinema like every other reviewer
True. My main interest in what he does is the films he watches outside of the blockbusters. They kind of help me understand fully about what he looks for. [editline]18th July 2012[/editline] I did have a hidden feeling that DK rises wouldn't live up to the first two. I'll still enjoy it most probably.
post
I know, i know but i said 6/10 max, not 6/10.
His character hasn't been diminished either even after such a traumatic cancer situation. He can still hate and love things just the same as he's always done.
I know, i know but i said 6/10 max, not 6/10.
6/10 is above average.
the dark knight rises. 10/10 this movie, this fucking movie. nolan is a god
the dark knight rises. 10/10 this movie, this fucking movie. nolan is a god
Thanks for the concise opinion. :-)
Brazil. 9.999.../10 as per usual, the missing 0.0...01 is for classic Gilliam underachievement, etc etc etc
jewdoser, you're gonna have to send me some more of the movies you know I'm after. I'm in dire need. :( Will watch Witness for the Prosecution.

Donnie Darko 10/10
rogert ebert gives some weird scores to movies. he gave the amazing spiderman 3.5/4 and that is a very uninteresting movie.

ignore his stars, he hates them and they're basically just to cater to the average person that might be interested in watching a movie like spiderman and what they would rate it
jewdoser, you're gonna have to send me some more of the movies you know I'm after. The only film I'm craving to see right now is 'De rouille et d'os' with Marion Cotillard made by the guy who made 'A Phrophet' which was hugely over rated. The buzz around this film is quite big but might just be hot air. The 2 Elite Squad films from Brazil were a very good watch but not so deep. Moonrise Kingdom was also a good one.
watched "Pather Panchali" (Song from a Little Road) Very familiar with this culture, and what the director did here was just as real as it could be. Superb. It's old, cheaply produced and modest but it has pounds of heart.
Watched Total Recall with Arnie, it's what I'd expect as a Schwarzenegger film for the most part, the plot was interesting and the make up and special effects were awesome as fuck. The commercials for the remake coming had me thinking about seeing the original. I'm not entirely sure how they plan to do it but from the previews it looks like they're taking the concept seriously which could be cool. I'm not sure if it was because the original was '90s as fuck but the whole thing had me laughing at the ridiculous one-liners and tri-boobs.
ignore his stars, he hates them and they're basically just to cater to the average person that might be interested in watching a movie like spiderman and what they would rate it
looking through his reviews, you kind of get a feel as to what the ratings mean. And a 3 star to me says it is damn enjoyable but lacks finesse and an aspect where you feel something real. The first 2 did it, I felt goosebumps in the first, as well as the second. I'm gonna lower my hopes a bit for Rises tbh. As for Rusty saying it surpasses both, I'm pretty sure it's his initial crazy reactions getting the better of him.
Nah I had a sleep since I still think it's fuckin amazing. [editline]19th July 2012[/editline] I honestly don't why you'd trust Ebert on this, he's given some shitty ratings to some of my favourite movies if I recall (plenty I'm sure you'll agree are stellar). My friend was picking apart some plotholes, but the thing is that every movie has plotholes. It's about how well you mask them, and how little they're made to matter in the end result. Sometimes they're jarring and you notice them at the time of first watching, like Prometheus. Other times, you couldn't give a shit about them if you tried. Besides, most of the stuff he picked out is completely plausible and he's just being a dick. And even if it has a few, some of the best movies of all time have some of the biggest plotholes (how did John Connor send his own father back in time to impregnate his mother so that he was born) [editline]19th July 2012[/editline] Honestly even if my view of the film changes once I process it a bit more, the lowest it'll go is a 9/10. Ebert's wrong on this one. The Dark Knight Rises was one of it not the best experience I've had watching a movie in my life. In part though I guess that's attributed to IMAX. Absolutely see it at IMAX if you can.
The wizard of Oz, they couldve killed todo off it wouldve made the movie better 7/10
Just got done watching Robocop... definitely a classic. Can anyone recommend any similar movies? I was really liking the alternate universe detroit with all the crime and corruption, and the whole hero thing.
