The Cement Garden (1993)
The first film I thought of after this was Lord of the Flies which you will understand if you watch this film. The story starts with an ill widow who has 4 kids to look after. I won't spoil it but the story takes a pretty dark twist. Incest is never an easy subject to tackle but when something develops outside of the normal framework of society it makes you wonder if we all have that potential to do something we find disgusting without the structures around us to moralise our behaviour.
That was a hard watch for me as sexual abuse was part of my upbringing. When it's done in innocence then we are talking about something completely different. This will either facinate, turn you on or bore that fuck out of you but personally I quite liked it. A very early performance from Charlotte Gainsborough was enough to reel me in. I recommend this film to anyone with an atn span longer than a goldfish which rules out a good few of you not reading past the first sentence of this post.
The Dark Knight Rises: 8.5/10
Very good movie, although there were parts that made no sense, and the whole love story with Tate felt weird.
Heat: 9/10
I haven't seen a movie this intense in a while. It was truly brilliant and the acting was top notch. Despite being almost 3 hours long it really kept up the suspense until the final climax. Easily one of the best heist movies ever.
I just realized, I've never even finished watching The Dark Knight. I stopped halfway through at one point, and forgot to watch the other half :v:.

10/10
I've never been this affected by a film. It's just so incredibly harrowing. Every image, every word and every sound just makes it so immersive and disturbing. One of the few film adaptations I've liked more than the original book.
are you kidding that film was hilarious
On the Road
A slow paced, not so adventurous adventure and not so dramatic drama about a writer who travels around, using lots of drugs while searching for "it", whatever "it" is. No, it's not based off a book by Hunter S. Thompson, and no, it doesn't star Jhonny Depp. It reminded me of The Rum Diary in a lot of ways, though I wish it reminded me more of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
First of all, it's pointless. While the main character's main intention is pretty clear (live life to it's fullest and etc), there's never a clear reason for the stuff he's trying to do. They have sex and do drugs, then finally find something small to achieve, do it and have more sex and do more drugs. There isn't a climax or a huge problem they need to solve, and the movie ends out of nowhere, leaving a feeling that the script was either unfinished or rushed.
Actually, the feeling it left was more like "wait, what? did it end now?"
the characters are likable enough and the setting is pretty cool, but the story really lacks something. I recommend it if you like slow paced movies about jazz, traveling and the 40's USA
also if you like movies with no ending
The Dark Knight Rises: 9/10.
I liked it a lot, it's a great conclusion to the best superhero trilogy so far.
The Dark Knight Rises - 9.5/10
Just epic. The acting, the characters, the dialogue....loved it so much.
I think Bale had his best performance as Batman in this one. And Tom Hardy as Bane......wow. In each scene he was in......his presence was so powerful.

well it's based on a semi-autobiographical book so the lack of climax and stuff is just because it actually happened. Though I don't want to watch it anyway because they cast an english guy as Sal which is just criminal
Unforgiven - 9.5/10
It took me a while to actually watch the movie from start to finish, as I always catch it in the middle or towards the end on AMC, but I finally got it on DVD.
Like all of Eastwood's westerns, I absolutely loved this movie. Now I need to watch Hang 'Em High.

the actor is fine, though, but I'm not sure how he compares to the book since I didn't read it. but well, if you're a fan of the book I guess you should watch it. even if you end up not liking it, it's always interesting to compare the two
The Dark Knight Rises: 10/10
I just came back from watching the movie and oh boy it was fucking amazing I just loved it.
The ending was great.

Watch it again. Everything makes sense
dark knight rises
7.5/10
i wasn't a fan of the event closer to the end, and i feel that some of bane's potential was lost because of it.
edited slightly to make it less spoilerish, my bad

what?
Dark Knight Rises 9/10
watched it again and yeah, Dark Knight takes the best spot in the trilogy
Downfall (2004)
Great German film about the last few days of Hitler and his closest followers in the bunker in Berlin.
Not much to say about it as its a history told many times but the insight into the atmosphere in there and the unwavering loyalty from some of them was very impressive.
The parodies on youtube kind of caused me to put this on the backburner for far too long. Excellent film about a great man.
what?
i think he means [sp]at the end. in the final fight scene people have guns, why rush towards each other, why not just gun each other down? a minor thing. my guess is close combat *probably* works better than fighting like that in the open for both parties[/sp]
Nope. [sp]Why where the people with guns running at each other?[/sp]
[SP]They can't beat enemies that have automatic guns and tanks with pistols, so the cops ran up to them so they would be too close to use them.[/SP]
Road to Perdition
8/10
TDKR. Too early to give it a rating (on an absolute scale, I'm going for an 8), although I'll say 2 things about it:
- It's limited by the fact that it's a Batman movie with the required conventions. It lets the premise, the plot, and most importantly, Nolan down, who can otherwise write with less superficial misdirection to get where he wants (and where the movie hints it would rather go.) Otherwise, it's a masterwork in cutting and a wonderful way to end the series.
- The existence of Bloomberg terminals introduces an inconsistency, although small. You can take it as far as you wish...
Hitch - 5/10
Four weddings and a funeral - 7/10
Hugh Grant is a dreamboat.
Koyaanisqatsi - 10/10
Even watched it again two days after. The sequence "The Grid" was more intense than most movies can be with action and dialogue.

Great movie, but again.. not for everyone.
the life aquatic with steve zissou: 8.3/10
Wes anderson is a movie god.
The Dark Knight Rises - 9/10
Law Abiding Citizen, 9/10 because it [sp]subtly alluded to the civil code all the way through[/sp]
I don't want to quote you explodingape but it's more fucked up to say [sp] there is a twist [/sp] then to say a fucking spoiler.
