American Psycho, finally - 9/10 [sp] Loved the ambiguity of the whole movie, and Christian Bale did a fantastic job. The Paul Allen murder scene cracks me up every time[/sp]
The Bourne Legacy 1/10. It was The whole movie was based in The Bourne Ultimatum time.
Moon 7.5/10. It was a pretty good movie, and they did a really good job with the set and props and all that, but the plot was kinda contrived and predictable. I did like the setting and Gerty though.
The Cabin in the Woods 8/10 It was surprisingly good.
Zack and Miri make a Porno 5/10 ehh..
Léon: The Professional - It was great 9.5/10
Shoot em up (2007) 9/10 Drive (2011) 9/10 Drive was such an eye-candy, and I really don't know how I lived all these years without watching Shoot em up.
omg how do those movies get the same score ow my brain
They're completely differente genres so it wouldn't be fair to compare the score directly.
They're completely differente genres so it wouldn't be fair to compare the score directly.
Exactly, I think Shoot em up was almost perfect for what it was. And Drive was an excellent movie as well. But you can't really compare the two...
Airheads (1994) 10/10 Fucking great. Brendan Fraser, Adam Sandler and Steve Buscemi are all great actors.
Graveyard Shift (1990) 7/10 Decent horror movie, better than average for a Stephen King adaptation, would probably only be a 5/10 but Brad Dourif automatically adds 2 points.
The Godfather 1/2/3. First time watching the movies. The first one was OK but when I got to the 2nd movie it really picked up, loved how they showed how Vito Corleone ended up in America and the progress through building his empire. I didn't see more then 20 minutes of the third movie because it didn't hold up compared to the other two so I can't really score it. The Godfather - 7/10 The Godfather 2 - 9/10
The third one is a funny one because Cuppola used it to finance his distasterous 1492. Andy Garcia was an obvious casting for Godfather 3 but he was shit. Other than that, the final scene in the opera is possibly the finest part of all three films which gives part 3 its rightful place in the trilogy for me. It's worth watching.
Confessions (2010) - 8/10 It's a revenge film, but handled unlike anything I've seen before. Instead of being about the pursuit of vengeance, the vengeance occurs at the start of the film: [sp]Yuko states to her entire classroom who the two students who killed her daughter are, and that she has infected them with HIV. [/sp] (well, in the introductory scene which actually goes on for the first half hour of the movie. It's very slowly paced but is nowhere near as bad as it sounds). The film then rotates between the perspectives of various characters involved, building up our understanding of the events leading up to and following the revenge from each character's view in a non-linear fashion. The style may be offputting to some; the whole film is basically one big exposition dump with various monologues over artsy camerawork, but I think the style was pulled off really well. The only thing that bugs me is that this is one of those films where one little bit of nonsense in the plot brings the whole thing down if you focus on it: [sp]at any point in the film any one of the students could have told their parents or anyone else what Yuko had done. None of them ever do for no clear reason, and only because of this fantastic bit of luck on her part does the film not end halfway through with her in a jail cell[/sp]. Ignoring that though, I really like this film. The story is original, the characters are well developed, the camerawork is great, and so is the soundtrack, with lots of material by Boris. If you can stomach the slow pacing and complete disregard for the idea of 'show don't tell,' I highly recommend this film.
Man this got a 10/10 from me I fucking love it so much.
Cuppola used to to finance his distasterous 1492.
hmm? [editline]16th August 2012[/editline] also yeah I liked Godfather 3 quite a bit. Acting was nowhere near as good as the first two, but aesthetically it holds a place in my heart.
it's completely pointless.
movies are never pointless. I heard someone call I am Legend pointless and never understood wtf it's supposed to mean.
Funny considering 1492 was a Ridley Scott film. And no, the third part is not worth watching as it's completely pointless.
You're right on the first part, where the fuck did I get that shit from. I read somewhere that GF pt 3 was made to finance another one of his films, read this a long time ago. I stand corrected comrade. On the bit of pt3 being pointless, maybe another watch would change your mind.
coppola did lose a shitload from his first movie after Apocalypse Now. I think the dude went crazy after he made Apocalypse Now so he decided to make less insane movies. However he did make Rumble Fish which is amazingly psychedelic. One of Mickey Rourke's early ones, he's awesome in it.
none of the adaptations of IAL have ever really captured the book, so i can see what that person is saying. also, the godfather 3 is quite horrible in comparison to the first two, it doesn't deserve it's title, which coppola originally titled The Death of Michael Corleone.
what's so horrible about Godfather 3? Al Pacino was on top form in that time. His performance a year later for Scent of a Woman was superb. [editline]16th August 2012[/editline] not his best though
Graveyard Shift (1990) 7/10 Decent horror movie, better than average for a Stephen King adaptation, would probably only be a 5/10 but Brad Dourif automatically adds 2 points.
The concept itself is kinda dumb anyway. Seriously? [sp]Giant rats? You're dealing with a mine, there's so many ideas![/sp]
The problem with pt3 is you have 2 near perfect films to follow. Hype is a bitch. Wiki says: Coppola felt that the first two films had told the complete Corleone saga. In his audio commentary for Part II, he stated that only a dire financial situation caused by the failure of New York Stories compelled him to take up Paramount's long-standing offer to make a third installment. Not sure where I got the 1492 link from, could be the 4 bottles of empty Belgian beer sat on my fireplace.
some fool thought it was a good idea to make a cut where it chronologically plays the movies. It's an okayish idea until the MASSIVE 40 year gap.
Airheads (1994) 10/10 Fucking great. Brendan Fraser, Adam Sandler and Steve Buscemi are all great actors.
not really, no ,yes. I personally like Brendan Fraser but he's definitely a B-movie actor (maybe B+). Adam Sandler on the other hand is not funny at all, doing stupid gimmicky voices and elementary school humor got really annoying really quickly. On topic: Fargo, 8.5/10. I really liked this movie; William H Macy and Steve Buscemi were great in it. They might have overdone the accent though, but the [sp]part where Steve Buscemi dies in the wood chipper[/sp] is one of the best scenes ever.
movies are never pointless. I heard someone call I am Legend pointless and never understood wtf it's supposed to mean.
To be fair I Am Legend is, at least in the essence of the novel, a pointless movie. It fails to deliver the final scene as shown in the book and therefore the film has no meaning. The book's ending was fantastic, but they changed it for the film and it didn't stand up to anything more than what it showed. No moral, commentary, life lesson, nothing. I understand that films don't necessarily need to have an obvious moral at their end or whatever but I was annoyed it failed to live up to the book, and, not only that, totally missed the point of it. All this being said, I did actually enjoy this film. I just felt the ending was a bit of a cop-out and almost ruined it.
I felt Godfather Part 3 was pointless because the story was told and done with 1 & 2, it didn't need a third.
Jack and Jill. 6/10
Jack and Jill. 6/10
That is literally the only film that both me and my dad (who is about as picky with films as a dung beetle is with who's shit it's rolling in) agree is absolutely awful.
