Confessions - 8/10 It's a Japanese novel adaptation about a teacher who's daughter was killed by two students from her class and tries to teach them the value of life/wants revenge. The movie then mainly focuses on the two students afterwards. The plot is simple but the movie does a great job pulling you in and keeps you watching. The script (at least the subbed version) was pretty good and kept me watching. Acting was nice as well. It's emotionally and psychologically enticing and should keep your attention if you enjoy that kinda stuff, though there is this weird scene in the ending that I still don't understand. But great movie overall, I would re-watch.
I really enjoyed it, great for what it's supposed to be...
no it isnt. it knows its shit but the little HA HA WE'RE MAKING FUN OF OURSELVES WE'RE SO WACKY parts were about as funny as getting shot and the action was so dull and poorly shot that I couldn't give a shit not to mention when jean claude jump-kicks stallone to the floor twice in a row and its the EXACT SAME TWO SHOTS. Thats some Birdemic level shit. Edit: to be clear as to why my opinion of the action changed, I watched it again because some more of my friends wanted a free pass so I decided to be nice and take them, and after a second viewing I realized I only thought the action wasn't terrible because EVERYTHING ELSE IN THIS MOVIE IS SO MUCH WORSE by comparison. for an example of a shitty action movie that knows its shitty and does it really well? Army of Darkness. [editline]22nd August 2012[/editline]
District 9 6/10 The only problem I had with this movie was the ending. I seriously thought it could be better.
so literally everything about this movie is fantastic save the ending? 6/10? do you even understand how ratings work
Primal Fear - 8/10 Bit lengthy but dat ending.
American History X sucked harder than a Thai whore. Hey, let's make a gritty movie about how racism and stereotypes are bad! Hey, let's run slow motion and glossy black and white imagery into the ground throughout the whole tihng, everyone know that slow motion and glossy black and white imagery are gritty as fuck! Hey, let's stuff it full of stereotypes as well, let's put in a bunch of donut-eating cops and a bunch of completely cartoonish white trash racists and an ineffectual pansy liberal or two in there as well! Norton probably completely ruined that fucking movie, at least if Tony Kaye is to be believed. And is there any cheaper and lazier way to get an emotional response from an audience than a fucking slow motion scene while sad music plays in the background? I mean come on, that shit turned into a cliche the moment someone thought of it. Dig! - 6/10 So it's a documentary about the pseudo-rivalry between The Brian Jonestown Massacre and The Dandy Warhols. So it's, basically, a documentary about two bands that nobody ever really gave a shit about to begin with(except for a completely bizarre yet decidedly small cult following that TBJM somehow garnered). Consistently indifferent critical reaction to their albums, nonexistent commercial success in the case of TBJM and a single hit song(Bohemian Like You) in the case of the Dandy Warhols, a song that became a hit because it was used in a mobile phone commercial which is like, the lamest possible way for a band to get exposure. So what's the point of this documentary? And how did these two thoroughly irrelevant bands, bands barely noteworthy in their "heyday"(which was all the way in the mid 90s, mind you) manage to develop personalities so ridiculously bloated and intolerable you'd think they invented music or something? Oh well, at least it's kinda entertaining in a Spinal Tap sort of way. And Joel Gion is a pretty funny guy. And that chick in the Dandy Warhols is pretty bangable. And Bohemian Like You is a pretty catchy song, even if it's objectively shit and even if I just listened to it twice on Youtube for the first time in years and I already have absolutely zero interest in ever hearing it again. Thank fuck that garage rock/psychedelic rock revivalism is dead.
Did any of the things that I mentioned not happen in that movie?

Drive - 9/10 Ryan Gosling was great in the movie
I'm not saying the movie tried to be edgy, I'm saying that it tried to be gritty. The word "edgy" did not appear in my post once. And when I said that Norton ruined the movie I didn't talk about his acting, I talked about the fact that by the end of the film's production his creative control over the film went well over him merely acting in it and extended into him being some sort of shadow director/editor. If Kaye is to be believed, the film would have been drastically different if he retained complete creative control over it. Who knows, maybe it would even have been decent and not just a shitty overwrought morality tale.
~too edgy~ I liked dandy warhols.
I hate how the word "edgy" is just thrown around these days as if it were some sort of proper insult or criticism. It's like the words "hipster" or "pretentious", it means fuck all anymore.
Avengers - 7.5/10
so literally everything about this movie is fantastic save the ending? 6/10? do you even understand how ratings work
Sometimes, it can be hard to explain your opinion of a movie with numbers.
Drive - 9/10 Ryan Gosling was great in the movie
Ye I watched that again today. my friend got it and was like "lets watch drive" so I was like ok It's still fuckin amazing seen it 4 times now I think. Best film of last year+one of my favourite films. one of the very few I can honestly give a 10/10. Also I went to see The Expendables 2 today. It was better than I thought it would be. An improvement on the first, at least. It was good fun, wouldn't watch it again.
The Graduate (1967) 9/10 i think after i've watched Kramer vs Kramer, dustin hoffman will be one of my favourite actors
Identity 6/10 Mediocre mystery movie that at least tries something different.
saw the fortune cookie again, haven't seen it in awhile. great movie, walter matthau is fucking hilarious 8 or 9 / 10 [editline]22nd August 2012[/editline]
man that one doesn't even have christopher lee, no wonder it's shitty, the best hammer films are when the two of them pair up.
christopher lee and peter cushing were in old horror movies together? damn might have to check those ones out
Hackers - 5/10 The representations of hackers in this movie is such an over the top 1990s inspired misunderstanding. I know the director and writers tried desperately to make hackers looking "cool" and "underground" but come on. The strange clothes, catchphrases, rollerblading, the parties...I can't really pin down what they look like, but hackers they are not. And of course, like any movie misrepresenting computers, the GUIs consist of virtual worlds navigated in 3 dimensions or some horrendous Hollywood abomination created to look good on camera. Just as bad as the software is the hardware, or rather, the brief moments when the characters are speaking about it. 28.8bps modem? Complimenting the refresh rate of a TFT laptop screen? I think it's a good movie if you're into computers because you can at least laugh at the movie for being so shitty. Otherwise, it's a waste of time.
The Graduate (1967) 9/10 i think after i've watched Kramer vs Kramer, dustin hoffman will be one of my favourite actors
ain't seen Graduate but Hoffman is a great actor. [editline]23rd August 2012[/editline] his performances are very natural.
I just watched The Notebook I literally cried I have never cried at a film before It was so amazing :( I think I go to negative manpoints for it but it was so great. Acting was superb and the story despite being a pretty generic romance/drama plotline didn't feel generic at all. I loved it. Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams were absolutely fantastic as well. I knew Ryan Gosling would be amazing because well he is Ryan Gosling but I've never seen any Rachel McAdams I don't think, may check out some of her other stuff.
Sometimes, it can be hard to explain your opinion of a movie with numbers.
yeah and that's why you accompany your number rating with words but that guys explanation was awful its the equivalent of saying GREAT MOVIE LOVED IT NOTHING WRONG BUT THE ENDING THIS SHIT IS MEDIOCRE GARBAGE
I know it isn't a movie, but Avatar - The Last Airbender, Season 2 episode 16, Appa's Lost Days. 9/10 God damn it was so sad. My feels are all over the floor. Few continuity errors, but it was awesome.
American Psycho Amazing. [editline]23rd August 2012[/editline] Dare I say fucking perfect? I'd watch it three times over.
City of God 9/10 Completely awesome movie. It's got such a good storyline and plot, which makes it a fantastic watch.
I Love You Philip Morris 7/10. Decent little flick. It only made me laugh in the beginning though, then after that it was just amusing to watch. Still, its a nice adaptation of a true story.
That film was hilarious but also made me very very sad it messes with your emotions :(
Just watched total recall (2012) - 6/10 I'll be honest, I didn't know it was a remake, but my opinion still stands. It was a decent movie, the action scenes were alright, but weren't really special and didn't catch much of my attention. The action scenes were okay to watch, but weren't wowing or edge of the seat thrilling. The plot was really predictable (not saying predictable is bad, it just wasn't good in this case). The scifi part of the movie was pretty neat at times, but it wasn't really something too memorable either, but some things were cool to see. There were also a lot of light leaks which I found disturbing. It had nice visuals and cincepts but it didn't make up for the rest of the movie. It was way too predictable and cliched in parts. Overall, its a somewhat entertaining movie to watch, nothing special or memorable though. Wouldn't really bother watching it again. Some people I know watched The Ring 3 and they said it was stupid and dumb. I asked one of them if they enjoyed it. "I enjoyed laughing at it" was their response, lol.
Hancock (2008). 8/10 Seen it before, but just watched it again on YouTube. Will Smith amazing as always, plot was a little dumb nearer the end.
American History X 9/10 Some parts where drew out a little, but that doesn't matter because it was still an amazing movie. I really did not expect the ending. [sp]I thought Derek was going to get shot in a drive by when he turned around and seen the car, and when it panned to Daniel in the bathroom, I thought he was just going to get beat up, not fucking killed[/sp]

Expendables 2 8/10. It was exactly what it wanted to be, nothing more, nothing less. And it was fun as hell.
The Last Broadcast (1998) - 8/10. Well that certainly took me by surprise.
To go further, I went in expecting something ala the Blair Witch Project. What I got was this pseudo documentary/critique on the way the media obscures the truth regarding highly publicized incidents. I'd like to see other movies that do this better though.
Hoodlum (1997)- 10/10. I loved this film so much and it has to be one of the best films I've ever seen imo.
