Cabin in the Woods 5/5
I you haven't seen it, go see it now.
cabin in the woods is the best film of the year
no it really was
Eh, I have to admit there were plotholes, everywhere.
I just like the idea behind it, and the movie just flowed correctly. It seemed short, when a movie seems short it means it was good, and did not drag.
The gore was realistic, and wasn't above and beyond like other horror flicks. The general ideas behind traps and everything being used in a home was realistic.
So yes, I thought it was a decent movie.
American Me 8.5/10
Enjoyed this film so much, could see the ending coming though.
The Viral Factor (2012) 8/10
The movie was so fucking cool and the ending was really sad.
[sp]It was all in chinese and didn't understand shit but who gives a fuck ;_;[/sp]
Super 8 (2011) 4.5/10
If you like the movie, then I'm sorry but I have to say that it's one of the worst movies I've ever seen in my life. There are lots of arkward and senseless moments in it.
Wow, you have no soul.
Wow, you have no soul.
Is it actually good?
I've been meaning to see it.
I'd say Super 8 was 7.5-8/10
Wasn't bad, maybe a tiny bit cheesy IMO.
Also:
The Green Mile - 10/10
The Shawshank Redemption - 10/10
Project X - 7/10
Inside Man, 7/10. It was nothing groundbreaking, just a nice movie to watch on a saturday evening.

It's like Stand By Me but with a monster thrown into the mix.
I enjoyed it quite a bit, surprisingly good child actors in it.
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - 2 / 10
What the fuck did I just watch? The 15% of the movie that actually contained Transformers was a blurry mess and the rest was a Maxim photo shoot / shitty romance plot.
Whoever let Michael Bay get his hands on this should die horribly.

I wouldn't say it was the worst, but it was definitely flawed and contrived and the ending was terrible. J. J. Abrams in a nutshell.
Midnight Run
8/10
American History X- 10/10
Loved this film so much, could someone recommend me some more movies like this and American Me?
Down AKA The Shaft AKA Fucking Garbage
Dick Maas, you deserve a medal. Because this must be the first time I've seen someone completely and utterly butcher and fuck up a remake of THEIR OWN MOVIE!
Just watch De Lift instead. It's better in every conceivable way. Down is just unbelievably bad.
The acting is equivalent to that of an elementary school play, I'm not even kidding. It's bad in more ways than I like.
The effects deserve special mention because they somehow manage to be WORSE than the original. That's right, it has shittier effects than a movie made 26 years ago. Bra-fucking-vo. Gold star for you because that takes some serious skill.
The deaths are beyond retarded. Yes, it does copy a few deaths from the original and the one with the blind man and his dog is actually not that bad. But like I said before, the effects are just terrible. I think we all remember the infamous decapitation in the original, right? If you don't or haven't seen it yet, go to around 11:20 to refresh your memory.

Pretty damn cool, right? Okay, the effects are kinda iffy but this was 1975 (fun fact actually, the reason the head looks so weird is because they didn't have the time or money for more than one head prop so they had to abuse the shit out of a single head). Now watch the same scene in this, at around 5:10 onwards.

The remake, with access to better technology, does it eons worse. That. Takes. Skill.
But I can hear you say it now. 'Whoopsalot you overly pessimistic moron. Surely the new stuff is good? Or at least decent?'
Well no, it even fails at that. For instance, watch the first minute or so of this. The premise is that he and his buddy had a skating competition, he slammed into a car while his buddy won and he landed in front of the elevator.

And here's a classic example of 'interesting idea ruined by terrible execution'.

But I think most of my ire lies with the plot, because it's a fucking joke. Granted, the original had a pretty iffy explanation to begin with, namely experimental organic microprocessors which could become self aware by way of electric field, radioactivity and such but it at least sounded somewhat plausible. But really Dick Maas, what kind of explanation does 'organic reproducing microchips based on fucking dolphin brains' sound like? Hell, in the original, they were actually mentioned as still begin experimental. In Down, the guy in charge of the project got fired BECAUSE THE THINGS FUCKED UP! HOW THE FUCKING HELL DOES THAT WORK?
And even besides that, the lift in the original had merely become self-aware with its actions reflecting it because it used the tools it had at its disposal. The lift was truly alive and that made it scarier.
The lift in down had become self-aware with its actions sort of reflecting it but the 'ilft was truly alive and that made it scarier' part is completely and royally buttfucked when the thing PHYSICALLY sucks in a person a few meters away from it and ejecting it hard enough to go through a window and A FUCKING FENCE!
Call it too lengthy but I don't think I've ever seen a remake THIS bad, especially considering that it's made by the same guy.
End of Watch - 8/10
I was actually really surprised.
Wow, you have no soul.
You can call me that if you like. I didn't say that the acting was bad, it was the sense in the scenes which annoyed me the most.
Jiro Dreams of Sushi - 4/5
Well shot, well scored, interesting characters, and surprisingly engrossing subject matter. I would not have thought I could enjoy an hour and a half film about a small sushi restaurant as much as I did. This is "How Its Made: Sushi" on steroids.
John Carter - I'm glad the person who came up with this lost his job/10
This was honestly one of the worst movies I've seen.

I really enjoyed the film, I took it as showing the sacrifices taken when you dedicate yourself to becoming the master of one specific thing.
I read this on the IMDB page earlier.
Makes the sushi a little smaller for women to ensure that everyone at the counter finishes at the same time. Uh, no thank you. What nonsense. Women eat sushi just as fast, and at $350 for dinner, they're entitled to the same portions. Does Jiro make allowances for big, tall women and skinny little men like himself? Of course not. Anyway, the comment casts light on the sexism that was rampant at the time Jiro grew up and which prevails to a shocking degree in Japan even today.
haha.
Annie Hall - 94/100
Nazis the Center of the Earth
greatest film ever made, greatest sfx

Highlander - 8 / 10
It's a little cheesy and dated, and it's flaws are painfully evident, but it's still a great film with a great story and I love it to death. It's a shame they fucked up the rest because it could have been a fantastic franchise (the show was pretty good).
Dredd
7.5/10
enjoyable. simple moral message that wasn't black and white enough to insultingly beat you over the head and didn't overstay it's welcome. (see: Avatar). interesting and unconventional presentation. it knows it isnt anything more than it advertised, and doesn't try to be (see: The Expendables 1 & 2). a few notably bad special effects that are quickly overshadowed by the good ones. Karl Urban's jaw.
people hailed this as better than the Avengers and Dark Knight Rises. they are wrong. but it's still definitely worth a watch.
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind 9.8/10
that feel when you find a blank dvdr and it happens to be a copy of Taxi Driver.
life is good.
Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters
six stars out of 7
This is a really cool movie. It was written and directed by the same guy who wrote Taxi Driver. It's a biopic about Japanese author Yukio Mishima, an author known for being batshit insane: he raised a private army designed around his worship and on the last day of his life, took hostage of an army base and after failing to make a speech about giving power back to the Emperor, he did that ritual suicide where he stabs himself in the stomach i forget what it's called. There are three parts to this movie: realistic colour scenes showing his final day, black and white scenes showing the rest of his life before, and brilliant colour scenes showing scenes from his novels using very fantastic sets. Mishima led a very interesting life and I love the use of scenes from his novels. They allow for very wonderful sets and they get a look into his fantasies in that odd head of his. Definitely the most creative biopic I've seen ever.
yeah I'm gonna need to see that.
Western made biopics about easterns are intriguing. I didn't think a WHOLE lot much about "The Last Emperor" as I thought I should, but it was still very inspired.

Except for the narration, the dialogue's in Japanese. So I guess you can pretend it's a Japanese made movie.
The Cabin in the Woods - 8/10.
Watched The Master twice.
9/10
Acting and cinematography is superb. I enjoyed There Will Be Blood more however.
