Kill Bill Vol 1 - 8.5/10
I like it a lot. Seen it three or four times now and still only seen half of Vol 2. Hopefully they'll show it on t.v soon.
Anyway, I want to watch Magnificent Seven and Seven Samurai, which order should I do it in? I understand the former is based on the latter so should I watch it afterwards so I can see the references or does it not really matter?
Inception (3rd time) - 10 / 10
Still amazing.
Paranormal Activity 4.
not even worth rating
Shame - 9/10
best porn movie ive seen, A+
on a serious note though this movie left me stunned
not only is this definitely Micheal Fassbender's best performance, but the movie itself has so many memorable moments and alot of those long 1-shot scenes (including Micheal fassbender's dong)
the 3/4th part of the movie felt like it dragged on too long but the last part pulled you back in straight away
loved it and recommended it, preferably watch it alone
Looper: 8.5/10
Solid time travel science-fiction.
I really expected just a battle between Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt but it's actually a really smart film that does pretty much everything right.
LA Confidential: 9.9/10
only thing that irked me though was pearce's voice at some parts hence the 9.9, it felt like there was no emotion (i guess that has to do with his character like some cold, emotionless guy or something but i dont really know what the hell am i talking about). oh and by the way kevin spacey's fucking sexy
anyway, i learned about this film through the posts here. thanks guys, it was amazing!
American Psycho
Honestly, I do not really know what to say about this. I enjoyed the movie a lot and it was really satisfying to me. Christian Bale's acting was superb, especially with the axe scence. The movie has a great concept but at the end you feel a bit lost, which makes it kind of good but also kind of bad.
Psycho (1960): 96/100
The Five Year Engagement - 7 / 10
Kind of odd at times but it had lots of funny moments dispersed throughout and was enjoyable overall.
Paranormal Activity 4: Nothing happens for the 4th time
Good thing I didn't pay to see it :) having a theater job works out sometimes
Let Me In
7/10
Pretty neat addition to the vampire genre
5 movies All highly recommended by me
Hard Eight: 8/10
The first movie directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, director of Magnolia, There Will Be Blood and The MAster. It is a pretty good movie, but there's a problem, it's really boring after a while, so -2 for that. The story is interesting and Philip Baker Hall delivers a great performance, just a pity that it drags on
-------
The Sunset Limited: 10/10
I love Cormac Mccarthy and was always meaning to watch it after I watched No Country for Old Men, so I finally got round to it after all these posts about it. Like Tommy Lee Jones's previous film, The Three Burials of Melquaides Estrada, it is one firmly propelled by the sheer acting abilities of the actors (all two of them)
-------
Is it just me or do the not the so "exceptional" actors tend to be better at directing than the star-studded actors? For example Ben Affleck, Paddy Considone and Tommy Lee Jones are all great directors and good actors. While Kevin Spacey and Robert De Niro, both two excellent actors, directed movies that turned out really average.
-------
Mystic River: 9/10
I suppose Dennis Lehane and Cormac Mccarthy books must be really good to adapt to film, makes me really excited for the upcoming Blood Meridian movie that is in development hell.
Personally, I felt that Kevin Bacon did a much job than he was given credit for although, his role seems rather diminished as compared to the book. -1 for Marcia Gay Harden's underacting, I felt the role of Mrs Boyle should have been a more intense and conflicted one, rather than just a stressed housewife.
-------
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy: 10/10
Rich man, poor man, beggar man, thief
This movie on the surface might appear dull, but it is really, really interesting. Of course my opinion is really skewed as I like John Le Carre a lot.
The flashbacks were really well integrated into the story, fleshing out the whole cast really well
John Hurt(Control) and Simon McBurney(Olver Lacon) were really fun to watch on screen, pity they didn't get more screentime. The movie is surprisingly short for an adaptation though, of such a thorough book
The ending deserves 10/10 on its own.
Should have been nominated and gotten Best Picture. As much as I enjoyed The Artist, this was miles better. Can see why people would dislike it though.
-------
We Own The Night: 7.9/10
The Departed II: Depart Harder
That was really unfair of me to claim, personally one of the most underrated movies ever. Mark Wahlberg delivered an amazing performance and of course so did, Joaquin Phoenix and Robert Duvall. The story is nice and compact, but the locations feel cramped for some reason, their lack of budget shows really clearly. The opening itself was pretty good, and I suppose the ending is as happy an ending as the movie could get, given the events in the movie
-------
Going The Distance - 6 / 10
Again, enjoyed it, had some good moments, but the casting was odd and it was another formulated romantic comedy
Boy meets girl in funny situation, they hit it off, some complication arises and they break up, he shows up miraculously and makes everything all better in the most unrealistically romantic way and they live happily ever after
It's movie night with the wife

"How Did This Get Greenlighted"/10
Because money. You do realise that moviemaking is essentially a business venture - morons would flock to this shit, making them a tonne of money, that's why it was green lighted.
amazed this many people liked Sunset Limited, have no clue what I said that persuaded people it was worth seeing let alone extraordinary.
Looper 9/10 - Wasn't what I expected. Great film overall.

This was my favourite film of last year and one of my overall favourites. So fucking great. Michael Fassbender's acting is absolutely amazing, and Steve McQueen is honestly one of the best directors I've ever seen, despite only doing 2 films so far (the other being his debut, Hunger- also starring Michael Fassbender. It's also seriously great. It has a 17 minute static two-shot of a conversation and it isn't boring at all. If you liked Shame you'll like this as well.)
I never felt any of it dragged. I just absolutely fucking love the style of the film. So many shots that reach into 2, 3, 4 minute takes, but it all works so well.
Brandon is a hugely interesting character as well. Having watched it 3 times I've come to different conclusions each time. First time I watched it I was alone and I came to some conclusions. but the other 2 times I watched with one of my friends and we just totally analysed the character :v:
Honestly I think the best parts of Brandon aren't what goes on on-screen, but what you take from his on-screen character off screen and create a really fascinating, deep and interesting character.
I wanna watch it again now :v:
I watched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind last night, second time seeing it, not quite as good as I remember but still good. Kate Winslet's acting is really great and Jim Carrey proves he's more than just a comedy actor.
hunger was superb.
Shame is one of my favourite movies for sure, gonna check Hunger tonight
and holy shit he really did only make 2 movies and a short so far, thats fucking unbelievable
Orange Clockwork 8/10
A really great movie with an absolute interesting concept and idea behind it, it gives an insight of what might happen in the future. The ideas of violence and rape are being dicussed in a very satircal manner, the simple nature of these human characteristics are being shown. Although I found that the movie began to slowly and that the actual topic of the "scientific cure" was brought to late in the movie.

You should definitely read the novel if you liked movie. It's pretty short and may be hard read due to the fictional register nadsat (the Russian slangy, thingy that's real horroshow, like) but it's extremely good.

Men in Black 3
7.8/10
Pretty entertaining and well-made. However I felt that [sp] the sideplot with J's father being killed in the end or whatever to be too much. I just felt it wasn't needed and was predictable.[/sp]
Might give the bock a shot, I liked it a lot thus far.
I bought the book a while ago but I've never got round to reading it. I'm gonna start when I get the chance/finish what I'm already reading (since I hate having more than one book going at once. I get confused :v:)
But yea it should be good, the film is one of my favourites. Love Kubrick and Malcolm McDowell was perfect as Alex.
The Thirteenth Floor 10/10
Wrote a review of it.
Vanishing on 7th Street - 3/10
This movie was really, really dumb.
Brother Bear - 10/10
Disney movies have always had a special place in my heart, and this one especially. Watched it 3 times in the space of 48 hours so far. Amazing story, amazing music and generally very well made.

V/H/S - 4/10
Overhyped to be "super scary" most of the 'tapes' bored me. Only one I liked was the last one where [sp]things got ridiculously cheesy and surrealist. Still not great but it hit a spot for me.[/sp]
I watched VHS too. Some nice ideas, but fucking horrifically bad execution
Dredd 6/10
It was a bit cliche. I couldnt help but find Judge Dredds speech to be a bit ridiculous.
Still, i really enjoyed it. I liked how you never got to know much about Dredd, he remained a symbol rather then a character.

You really enjoyed it but it's a 6? That doesn't really match up at all.
