Watched The Princess Bride again - 10/10 My all time favorite movie.
Master And Commander 6/10 Firstly I didn't like the child actors. I also thought the plot was really dumb, basically the captain just wants to get revenge on this ship for ambushing him "FOR GLORY" despite tons of his men being killed in the process.
The Fly (1986): 10 / 10 Jarring and tragic, a fantastic amalgamation of romance, horror and scifi. I think it's a masterpiece. This movie seriously had a profound effect on me, why are movies like this so rare?
Argo - 10/10 Didn't know much about this before seeing it. I need to look more into it but they made it seem like it was for the most part actual events. Most "true story" films add a lot of fiction. Bryan Cranston is a great actor, was so glad when he finally yelled.
DREDD - 9/10 really fucking enjoyable and just cool. might do a review. maybe start video reviews?

no i guess it would have appropriate trailer footage ???
The French Connection - 83/100
Cloud Atlas - 10/10 The beginning was questionable for me partly because it took some time to get used to the structure of this movie. I tried to analyze every part and every character to try to understand what everything means and how things fit together but then I realized that it's not meant to be watched like this. If you're going to see this, don't overthink anything. Just enjoy the experience.
Movies should be thought about and make cognitive sense, after all they are the art of telling a story with visuals.

Watched a few films the last 2 days Room 237- 8/10 Interesting documentary on the theories and conspiracies behind The Shining, fantastically well done and really engaging to watch. Some of the stuff was a wee bit out there (Kubrick faking the moon landing, for one) but everything they presented was backed up well. Went on about the symbolism behind The Shining as well, such as it being about the genocide of the Native Americans by the white man, WWII, etc There was also a cool thing about how the hotel isn't actually possible. Like it was mapped out and things were not where they should have been or could have been. For instance that window when Jack is talking to the owned of the hotel is impossible as there should be another corridor behind it (and wendy actually runs through that corridor later on. There's no window) plenty of stuff like that such as things in rooms changing. Chairs, tables, etc- even the carpet flips when that ball rolls towards Danny as he's playing with his toy train. American Beauty- 9/10 Absolutely fantastic film. Really loved it. Incredibly well acted, great plot, quirky, funny, dark. Loved this film. Could go down as a favourite, but I'll need to watch it again for sure. Skyfall- 8/10 Great film, better than the other 2 Daniel Craig films imo. Felt more like a classic bond film than the others. Loads of nods to the earlier franchise as well. Javier Bardem wasn't as amazing as I'd hoped honestly but I guess he didn't have a whole lot of room to give his maximum. Nice to see they expanded on the universe a fair bit as well, and left it open for more films. Looking forward to where the franchise goes next! Babel- 7/10 Pretty good, but not as good as Amores Perros or 21 Grams. It didn't have as much depth, I felt. Fantastically done though, Alejandro Inarritu is an absolutely great director. Going to watch Biutiful at some point. His latest film and first outside his Death trilogy, it's told with a linear narrative I think.
Project X 8/10 I thought it was a neat movie, I know that hand cam method gets used a lot but it worked really well with this movie. I had fun watching it and would suggest it to anyone that enjoyed movies I guess like superbad?
Iron Sky 8/10 Funny as shit, fresh comedic ideas with some nice references too (although I thought the Downfall one was a bit cheesy). Also, the ending was incredibly powerful and really gives a dark message underneath the ridiculousness of the movie.

My god was that fantastic.
Does anyone know a good movie including a dark, gritty setting with organized crime and such?

What's in the box? :v:
Tucker and Dale vs Evil - 8.5/10 Well, that wasn't what I was expecting. The comedy elements overpowered the horror elements though.
Lots of disagrees on this page :v:
Does anyone know a good movie including a dark, gritty setting with organized crime and such?
Rise Of The Foot Soldier
Minority Report second watch. a lot of contrast and lack of colour does NOT make this stylish "noir". SchpielBERG thought he had us with his Fincher/Ridley-esque pseudo plot, but imo it's a very obviously escapist. A.I. was miles better in terms of authentic escapist sci-fi. But onto less dumb opinions, it's a standard cool crisp action flick which is good for days to chill. Completely redundant ending though, he should have done what Brazil did and be cruel but instead he did his old fashioned [sp]ULTRA POSITIVE ending[/sp]. Von Sydow has a shot where his face is brightly lit to emphasize his evilness, too bad it's been done before a billion times. It's funny how it's called the Blade Runner of the 21st Century, sorry but Dark City annihilates it.
Movies should be thought about and make cognitive sense, after all they are the art of telling a story with visuals.
This movie has too much content to analyze and made sense of. Or at least in your first time watching it. It becomes more enjoyable when you don't try to be a movie critic and simply enjoy the movie.
Movies should be thought about and make cognitive sense, after all they are the art of telling a story with visuals.
yeah but you hate Brazil.
Argo 10/10 This might make movie of the year.
Damn, I'm hearing nothing but incredible things about this movie. I'm thinking about seeing it tonight, even if I'm just going by myself.
yeah but you hate Brazil.
because it's all style and visuals with no substance - and the visuals are jarring and terrible
the visuals are jarring and terrible
example pls [editline]28th October 2012[/editline] and how exactly is it "no substance", it has a worthy plot. Maybe it's the Monty Python style humour that you hate.

Maybe it's the Monty Python style humour that you hate.
you know what i mean when i say terry gilliam's older style. the same type you'd see in monty python and this film. it's not the humour. it's the style and visuals. it's really reserved in later movies like 12 monkeys. it's still there, but dialed back, which allows me to enjoy them. i just really fucking hate terry gilliam's style. it's annoying. as for no substance, the plot was just really stupid and incoherant. i knew what was going on - but barely. it felt like the whole reason for the plot was 'just because. im so random and cooky'. that film is just a fucking mess.
what about time bandits or baron munchhausen, then?
