What exactly happened to Jack? What is it about time travel, is he mentally insane? Is the mansion haunted? Is it all an illusion? Are the all the people ghosts?
You get a lot of clues, for instance that the hotel is build on a sacred indian ground. Also it seems like the isolation and lonlyness got to Jack. Also what about the waiter that killed his family. You get tons of clues and such but nothing is really explained. Also what about that picture in the end? The blood in the elevator? Besides the actually ability of "Shining" is really not that developed throughout the story.
I read that Jack is the actual waiter, but he is incarnated in a loop. Which made no sense to me. The obvious explanation is that he has gone mad due to the isolation. But what about the ghosts then? Is it all haunted?
Missed this scene? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZup24gsS8M
Nevertheless, it does not explain the actual events.
Although I might be just dumb as fuck,
I agree that it could have elaborated on all of that, but it doesn't take away from being able to enjoy the movie for me.

Eraserhead
What the fuck did I just watch?
I prefer The Shining's ambiguity. You are on the level of the family, not sure what's real, what's not. I find the film an ambient piece. The story doesn't need to be crisp.
Scarface
7/10
The Prestige
4.5/5
Great movie, pretty underrated I reckon.
I'm pretty biased though because I have a boner for Nolan and magic tricks.
[REC] 4/10
It's not the worst hand held camera movie out there, but it's nothing special. The premise is quite generic, it's basically a slightly different take on a zombie infection. This idea could have been explored more in depth, but the film is just so shallow, superficial and, as these films do, doesn't explain almost jack shit about what's happening. It basically throws shock scares at you all the time, which are really predictable and not scary at all (at least for me).
Shaun of the dead 8/10

I wouldn't call it a psychological horror but if you get immersed the atmosphere is really fucking scary. Then again, what's the point of watching a horror movie if you don't want to get scared.
The Amazing Spider Man
Maybe it's just because I get such a movie boner for comic book/super hero movies, but I thought it was fucking great. 9/10 for sure.
The Naked City (1948) 10/10
Beautiful movie.

I do want to get scared, it just didn't scare me.
Eastern Promises
well... this is one of the best gangster flicks I've seen in recent times. It's BITTER and nauseating and most importantly, it's genuine. Unlike the bucketload of arse that imbeciles come out with.
I'd go as far as to call this the "Russian Godfather", no bs. Cronenberg has earned extra ounces of respect by me for this film.
Honestly, why this isn't talked about is beyond me. Yet we all go on about "American Gangster" and "The Departed", but whoever thought those were true genuine gangster flicks are kidding themselves. (not that they're bad films at all, but they steer a bit too far from their actual genres for me).
Set in London, you'd think they'll cut immediately to a bunch of cockney accents and landmarks as you do, but here you don't get that at all and because of that, you feel an actual London vibe unlike many other films.
what a film.
It's a shame plans for a sequel are going through the floor but I'd love a second.
Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery 8/10
actually good movie. Mocks the entire James Bond, secret agent and generic evil guy genre with goofy humor. Enjoyed it. Reminded me of Evil genius.
Wreck-It-Ralph: 8.5/10
It's basically what I expected. It was an above-average, "classic" Disney movie with a feel-good message, likable characters, and fun visuals. The videogame references were a lot of fun (I like that one of the main characters is Nova from Starcraft), and the voice acting was pretty stellar across the board, with Sarah Silverman delivering a knockout performance. It's definitely worth seeing if you want to get in touch with your inner geek/child, but I won't blame you if you decide to wait and rent it.
Elephant Man - 7/10
Pretty cool.
dont know if this counts but
Kevin Hart: Laugh at my Pain - 8/10
kept me laughing the entire time, worth a watch. didn't even know who he was until i watched this.
Bram Stoker's Dracula - 7/10
To call this film over the top would be the understatement of the fucking century. The visuals and artistic direction can be damn impressive at times, but the film itself lacks substance and can't really back up it's crazy aesthetics, which ultimately made it feel very pretentious.
The acting is definitely the film's strong point, with Gary Oldman and Anthony Hopkins delivering some crazy good performances. The rest of the cast was pretty good, save for Keanu Reeves who was terrible. Gary Oldman made a great Dracula, and the Van Helsing character was pretty amusing.
I'm not how I feel about this movie as a horror film. There weren't any scary moments, but I think the eerie, creepy atmosphere and amazing make-up and effects made more than enough up for it.
So yeah it's a decent film, with it's ridiculously over the top art style being it's weak and strong points. The story isn't very well told and the movie has some really weird scenes, but the stellar performances as well as the great atmosphere make it a worthwhile watch.
Total Recall 2012... 5/10
The movie is for people with heavy ADD. 90% of the movie are action scenes. The story is barely there. I didn't give a fuck about anything that was happening. The movie didn't have any substance for me. It didn't keep me interested at all. I watched it to the end to see if I predicted everything right and I did.
Also the visuals of the movie were pretty annoying. EVERYTHING is shiny as fuck sometimes with over 20 light flares on the screen. Fair amount of dubstep and "cool" gadgets all over the place make me think that the target audience for this movie are young teenage boys, and I'm sure they loved it.
I do have to give the movie credit for the wink with the woman from the previous Total Recall.

Fun fact: googling this puts little bats in the wiki thingy at the right
Just found this out
The Thing (1982)
Amazing, cinematic masterpiece
9.8/10
Skyfall
10/10
The Amazing Spider-Man: 8 / 10
Buried: 6.5/10. Would've been so much better if they hadn't relied on scare tactics for the last bit of the movie. Ending was good though.
I had quite a double feature tonight.
First off, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.
From the commercials I thought this would be incredibly cheesy shit, and I was wrong. It had pretty good cgi stuff, the vampires were neat, and ultimately B-movie entertainment.
Then, The Campaign.
Holy shit I wish I could re-experience this, I haven't laughed this well in a while. Oh, and Dylan McDermott was clearly the best part of the film.
abraham lincoln vampire hunter was so fucking bad are you kidding me

Bronson 4.8/5
reefer may or may not be affecting my rating right now
why would you watch a good movie like that while high
i thought people only did this to ben stiller movies
because someone put it on while I was smoking.
I didn't directly choose to watch it. what's with the stigma against marijuana here?
