Volver (2006) Pedro Almodóvar once again delivers a quality film and story set in a small Spanish town where everybody knows everybody. Its one of those twisty ones where the characters start to get themselves in a mess and put their own agendas first. As always in Pedro Almodóvar's films, they all seemed to get to where they needed in the end. I didn't enjoy this as much as his last film from last year but it kept my attn right to the end. The structure reminded me of Wes Anderson's films because he often starts with good natured people getting themselves and each other in a mess but somehow find a common solution that works for all characters. I recommend this film if you like story over action.
Anyone know of good hipster movies. [editline]7th November 2012[/editline] I meant those artsy fartsy ones.
Eraserhead, Dancer in the Dark, Blue Velvet, "Synecdoche, New York", Antichrist. but these are all great movies so you can all screw yourself. [editline]7th November 2012[/editline]
Can anyone recommend me some Sci-fi, probably Action like Aliens movies? Or Drama like MOON? With near-future tech involved and stuff like that?
Minority Report. Even though I think it's overstated it's worth a watch for its style.
Evil Dead 1 - 4/5 Evil Dead 2 - 5/5 Evil Dead 3 - 4/5
Lord of war- 8/10 Really good film. Nicolas cage's acting was great, definitely the best performance I've seen of his. I now understand why people say nicolas cage should stick to drama. It was excellent, along with jared leto providing a very good supporting role. Pretty powerful film, addressed several political and moral issues. Let me in- 8/10 again Excellent. Really loved this, an incredibly new take on the generally pretty saturated vampire horror genre. Chloe grace moretz' performance was brilliant, I've come to like her a lot recently. Shes definitely one of the best child actors I've seen. She's definitely going to go far and I look forward to watching her progress, as she really deserves it. The boy playing the lead role showed a very impressive performance as well, especially towards the end. Which reminds me- great ending. I wasn't sure how it was going to go and I think they picked a great ay to end it. Highly recommend both of these films.
Evil Dead 1 - 4/5 Evil Dead 2 - 5/5 Evil Dead 3 - 4/5
man I remember my very first watch of the Evil Dead marathon. fucking .·´¯`·->sick<-·´¯`·.
Skyfall - 9/10 Best Bond movie since the originals with Sean Connery, if you ask me. Beautiful opening (both the song and the sequence itself), very well shot, great story and really good performances (Craig as Bond is amazing, and Judi Dench's dry wit would've made the movie worth watching even if everything else was terrible, if you ask me). Packed with action from the opening in Turkey all the way to the explosive, dramatic finale in Scotland, Skyfall is definitely the movie you'd want to watch if you could only watch one Bond movie. Had all the trademark Bond things too - the iconic "Name's Bond. James Bond.", Q's "Bring it back in one piece", the one-liners, girls, cars, gadgets... Overall, I think that Skyfall more than made up for the disappointment that was Quantum Of Solace.
Skyfall - 9/10
skyfall 8/10 nice movie I wanna see if they would stop using music intro to just one bond movie just show the title "James Bond: The new movie"
boogie nights 9.5/10 long takes get me hard also some of the finest directing, shooting and scoring I've seen in a long time, hop on this shit now
Cloud Atlas 9/10, i liked it a lot and even though it was long it kept me interested the whole time and i liked the multiple stories that all connected.
Cloud Atlas 9/10, i liked it a lot and even though it was long it kept me interested the whole time and i liked the multiple stories that all connected.
yeah i need to see this
skyfall 8/10 nice movie I wanna see if they would stop using music intro to just one bond movie just show the title "James Bond: The new movie"
No. Half the fun of a Bond movie are the intro sequences with their catchy songs.
Alien - 9/10 in the future the technology of making sufficiently sized underwear has been lost
I just rented The Lorax from Redbox because I had a free rental, does anyone have any thoughts on that movie? I've heard decent things. To be on topic, I recently watched Larry Crowne, and I'd give it a solid 7/10. I like pretty much all of Tom Hanks' movies, he's just an incredible actor in my opinion.
Hugo 8/10 Took me by surprise this one, filled with great actors like Ben Kingsley (Schindlers list), Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat, The Dictator), Chloë Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass), Christopher Lee (Star Wars and Lord of the Rings) and Jude Law (Sherlock Holmes) Loved the character development and how everything connected to each other the further the movie goes
Loved that movie. It's the other France-related 2012 movie about movies. Sinister - 7/10 Wasn't bad, wasn't particularly impressed by it. The plot reminded me of creepypasta, though, and I like that for some reason. Music was interesting and unsettling. I usually don't watch horror movies, so disagree with my rating all you want. I was hoping it would be better than The Possession. I rarely see horror films in theaters, and The Possession was one of the few I've actually gone out to see. It was too hard to take it seriously. It was easier to take Sinister seriously. For the most part. Still thinking about Wreck-It Ralph, the other movie I saw this weekend.
Cloud Atlas 9/10, i liked it a lot and even though it was long it kept me interested the whole time and i liked the multiple stories that all connected.
This, I'm very likely going to buy it, definitely worth seeing again. Too bad the theater I was at had the volume turned down lower than usual, hard to hear a bit of it.
Mystic River, i found out about it through here. i think it was AKz's post (your recommendations are p. awesome). i dont know what to rate, i didnt really find anything bad about it aside from the fact that i was a bit confused at the start. it was hard to distinguish between the characters but it's probably only me though. [sp]oh and sean penn's wife at the end was a bit off, i dunno.[/sp] anyway it was pretty fucking awesome. kevin bacon is way too sexy, and it was fun [sp]trying to solve the crime and connecting shit they discovered/revealed throughout the film.[/sp] the acting was very good too, [sp] i got scared of dave for real at some parts esp the part where he finally let it out in the open that he knows his wife thinks he killed katie. that was creepy. [/sp] and that ending is just fucked up. [sp]i kept saying fuck you to sean penn when he stabbed dave even though i saw it coming that dave will die. felt reaaaaaally bad for dave, and his wife and son afterwards :( [/sp]
Skyfall 8/10 Silva was one (maybe the best) Bond villain ever, you can clearly see that he was inspired by The Joker from Batman the dark knight.
The Insider- 9/10 Quite an interesting movie. Like all Michael Mann movies, the peak of action is more of in the middle and then the final act is more of everything else just unfolding until the conclusion. Thief, the warehouse job, Heat, the bank shootout, Collateral's Club Fever, etc. Definitely worth a watch ------- The Spy Who Loved Me- 8/10 Unlike most movies I watched in my childhood, this movies seems to be better than I remembered. Then again when I was young, I though Attack of the Clones was great. I think at this point Roger Moore had warmed to the role, pity he really couldn't sustain it ------- Skyfall- 9/10 Unfortunately for me my friend spoilt the movie for me before I went to see it Javier Bardem- really creepy and [sp]bi[/sp] villian, the reverse of his role in No Country for Old Men, very expressive now, the same creepiness however Daniel Craig- I suppose by setting it up that he is aging and making that a kinda key part of the movie, they are preventing a Roger Moore thing, where they did their best to hide his obvious aging. I guess the next one will have an extremely world-weary, cynical agent Unrelated fun-fact- Javier Bardem was in Collateral

I have yet to see let me in but it's based on the original swedish language film, which is bare good
wow skyfall was incredible 9/10 I loved it best Craig bond film by far, and the only one with a truly solid villain
wow skyfall was incredible 9/10 I loved it best Craig bond film by far, and the only one with a truly solid villain
mad mikkelsen was wasted so much in Casino Royale. If Valhalla rising is any signal of anything it's that he can be genuinely scary as shit
Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter 8/10 I really didn't like the vampires they used. They can be in sunlight and all that. But the fighting scenes were fucking awesome. Would watch again
Sinister: like 6/10 fuck it idk this movie was mediocre as shit shame because it had loads of potential but fell into the silly haunted house booga booga jump scares galore tropes really soon. to its credit: Ethan Hawke put up a great performance as usual, and the general atmosphere of the films, especially regarding the snuff films he watches, are pretty unsettling. in part largely to the soundtrack. but the scenes with the [sp]ghost kids[/sp] felt awfully out of place and just kind of hammed the whole feel to hell and back, and the big bad boogie monster dude looked really generic. like some outcast slip knot reject.
mad mikkelsen was wasted so much in Casino Royale. If Valhalla rising is any signal of anything it's that he can be genuinely scary as shit
shame valhalla rising is one of the most boring films I've ever seen mads mikkelson was good but fuck I've never felt a film drag as much as that did. its cryptic as fuck but even on analysis it didn't really say a whole lot. seriously disappointing considering how great bronson and drive were.

Prometheus 8/10, better than I was expecting. The [sp]tentacle monster surgical extraction[/sp] scene is the only scene in any movie ever that has come close to making me feel ill, so hats off to it for that. Not quite as good as Alien but definitely worthwhile.
why the fuck am I watching birdemic (again(I secretly hate myself)) 0/10 Good for a novelty's sake but its like a step by step tutorial of how to not make a movie. I think every film student should see this film if only for an example of what to avoid doing ever in film there is literally not a single thing about this movie that is remotely done right.
anything with Ryan goslings is bang tidy in all possible meanings. literally the sexiest man alive (pretty homo) also got fucking top class fashion sense. looking forward to that since drive is honestly one of the best films I've ever seen and most of it was down to refn and gosling and their chemistry (they seem to have a proper bromance) looking forward to beyond the pines so much as well man. directed ny the same guy who did blue Valentine also starring Ryan gosling which was fucking amazing.

Gosling and Refn were driving around LA in Gosling's car listening to '80s music and Refn broke down in tears. He's so fucking European, I love it
