In Bruges - 9/10
adaptation. -9/10 fucking loved this. Nicolas Cage was top of his game, best acting I've ever seen him do, absolutely brilliant. Got nominated for an academy award, but unfortunately lost out to Adrien Brody in The Pianist (which i've not seen but from what I hear it's a worthy victory) It was quite weird and kinda quirky at the start, but as it got on it just got insane. The ending just left me totally shocked [sp]like when Donald got shot, but then he survived, and they drove away so i figured they were cool but nope a fucking car crash and Donald flies out and fucking dies. Then the guy Meryl Streep's with gets eaten by a goddamn crocodile. What the shit. It got weird.[/sp] but yea fucking great, fucking genius, loved this film. I've just tried to watch Irreversible, but it's in French and the subtitles aren't working for reasons unknown even though they're on both on the computer and through the settings on the dvd so I can't understand what anyone's saying, and I don't want to watch a film where I can't understand a word being said. This annoys me because I'm really interested to see the film. I'm aware it's become almost infamous but it does seem good, and the loud, repetitive bang noise going on as the titles came up which were flashing really quickly and the fucking weird single take that lasted minutes, just going round and round as it went around an apartment building and into a window really has me interested. I'll need to figure out what's wrong with the subtitles cos I really wanna watch it. (im sorry rusty i know you hate this with a passion but im intrigued)
Hick 5/10 Mediocre (Actually really damn bad) script, but was partially saved by great acting, especially by Chloe Grace Moretz.
O yea that reminds me I watched Kickass again today. Owned again. Chloe Grace Moretz is actually amazing, not even just for her age. She's gonna go so fucking far and I'm looking forward to that, as she's actually one of my favourite actors of the past few years. Looking forward to the Carrie remake almost entirely because she's leading it. [editline]12th November 2012[/editline] I also noticed that Nicolas Cage gets less screen time than I remembered, which is a shame because he's honestly fantastic and Big Daddy was a great character. I mean, his character was obviously written to advance the plot and stuff and he was integral to the story it's just a shame he wasn't in it as much as I'd liked. Also, the [sp]warehouse scene where he kills everyone- honestly seriously fucking badass. I was taken aback by how goddamn cool that shit was. Who the fuck needs shakycam and closeups and superfast cuts, following him about and watching him fluidly kicking ass was way more intense and entertaining[/sp]

(im sorry rusty i know you hate this with a passion but im intrigued)
you HAVE to see The Pianist, seriously right now [editline]as[/editline] oh and Jarhead - 8.7/10
I almost watched it tonight but I've been meaning to watch Adaptation for a while so I chose that over it. Soon tho. Soon.
This Is England - 7.25/10
:( Why? Is that the first time you seen it, have you seen it as a kid?
i love spacejam... atleast i think i do when i look back at the old memories of it
I actually really liked it as a kid. I just haven't seen it since I was 7.
I fucking love it lol. Have not seen it since I was a kid though. Wonder what I might think of it. [editline]11th November 2012[/editline] Watching Clerks atm.
nothing wrong with absolutely adoring shit movies
i've been meaning to see this, didn't know if it stood up to other parallel story movies.
It's pretty decent. Didn't make me cringe at any moment. Wait.. there is one though, the moment when the doctor's wife phoning her friend. Yep.
Clerks - 7/10 Pretty great! Dialogue is funny and witty (!); can get a bit manic sometimes. [sp]Dante is a contemptible, annoying, passive-aggressive character. It has nothing to do with the rating of the movie, just a thought.[/sp]
American Beauty 8/10 This is probably one of my favorite films ever.
Mallrats - 7/10 A very fun movie. Coming from Clerks this seems less "intellect-y", and crafted to appeal to more people but I think it's an underrated gem. It's basic but nicely done silly humor and slapstick.
This Is England - 7.25/10
That film's fucking amazing, you should also watch the 2 miniseries, This is England '86 and '88. '90 is coming out next year. Great stuff.
This Is England - 7.25/10
Boy, did that film haunt me for a few days after watching it
American Beauty 8/10 This is probably one of my favorite films ever.
a 8/10 seems a bit low for a favourite movie ever
Chasing Amy (1997) - 7.75/10 Damn this movie is serious / heavy, didn't expect that from Kevin Smith. This might be his ~deepest~ movie. I went in knowing little about it and was very surprised. Dialog is great, humor is great. It's very lighthearted at first then it gradually gets very serious. The basic story is about a guy forming a friendship with a lesbian girl that develops into a relationship and the problems / complexities thereof (e.g. their friends hatin'). Explores a variety of things like gender roles, fluidity of sexuality, misogyny, homophobia, etc. Highly recommend it.
a 8/10 seems a bit low for a favourite movie ever
people don't get it how ratings aren't objective, it only matters about personal enjoyment.
Perks of Being a Wallflower - 7.5/10. It had some cool imagery and I liked the writing style a lot. My only real problem with it was a couple of unresolved storylines, but I didn't read the book and that might be how it was written. The acting was actually pretty good for such a young cast, although it took me a couple of minutes to get over the fact that Emma Watson tries pretty hard to hide her accent. After that though, it was enjoyable.
Highlander - 8.5/10... Can't believe that I haven't seen this sooner. Amazing soundtrack, great story, memorable characters, and fantastic sword fight sequences. I hear that every single sequel made was god awful though, awful in that they all retcon the shit out of eachother and just plain shit all over or even ignore the original source material.
Choke - 7.5 The Machinist - 7
Drive (2011) 10/10 Best film of 2011.
28 days later- 5/10 not that much action, but definitely a different pace from the generic mindless-slow zombies..the lack of action was boring me though.
What lack of action? It's a zombie movie, it has to have a certain pace, a mix between fighting zombies, surviving, tense moments, and it did a really good job.
What lack of action? Wreck-It Ralph 9/10 Great movie from Pixar, as always.
Wreck-It Ralph 9/10 Great movie from Pixar, as always.
It's not a pixar film. [editline]13th November 2012[/editline]
i found it hard to connect with the main characters. the little girl was annoying, the black chick was bitchy and the main character suddenly turned into an insane badass within minutes, meanwhile the father was killed off in the least dramatic way possible and the daughter seemed to have gotten over it very quickly
I have to agree with you on this one. Overall I liked the film. But I honestly hated most of the main characters. [editline]13th November 2012[/editline] I'm trying to watch The Evil Dead, but I'm having a hard time. I wanted to love it, but I just can't. I made it about halfway through the film and just had to turn it off. Bruce Campbell had decent acting, but most of the other actors are atrocious in my opinion. I'll admit the zombie/monster scared the hell out of me. Was expecting a bad makeup job and some groaning, but it genuinely freaked me out. The action sequences are so cheesy, and not in the good way. I'm not giving up on it yet, but I want to know what I'm doing wrong. Usually when a film is so highly regarded by some of the harshest critics I know, I can go in and love it instantly. I want to love it, but honestly I need some help to get to that point.
