Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back - 6.9/10
This movie is stupid as hell :v:. It's only funny occasionally, but when it's funny it's hilarious. The rest of the time it's cheesy :v:. I think one problem with it is that it relies on the previous movies too much. It seems like a collage of all the previous ones. I can't rate this that highly even though I love Jay and Silent Bob.
Cloud Atlas
10 / 10
Possibly the best 2 hours and 48 minutes of my life. It blended 6 stories together really nicely, and managed to entertain me for the whole time, which some hour long movies fail to do.
I'm trying to watch The Evil Dead, but I'm having a hard time. I wanted to love it, but I just can't. I made it about halfway through the film and just had to turn it off. Bruce Campbell had decent acting, but most of the other actors are atrocious in my opinion. I'll admit the zombie/monster scared the hell out of me. Was expecting a bad makeup job and some groaning, but it genuinely freaked me out. The action sequences are so cheesy, and not in the good way. I'm not giving up on it yet, but I want to know what I'm doing wrong. Usually when a film is so highly regarded by some of the harshest critics I know, I can go in and love it instantly. I want to love it, but honestly I need some help to get to that point.
I felt similarly. I think you're supposed to watch it with the perspective that it's supposed to be cheesy to find it entertaining. You know, campy, b-movie horror. But even framing it that way, I can't get into it as much as other people and don't understand the cult following. I feel like there's some context or subtext I'm missing. In the film there's some genuinely scary scenes like the first demonic posesssion, but then there's hilariously stupid shit like [sp]Ash being shoved to the bookcase multiple times and getting owned lol[/sp]. I'm confused as to what should be taken seriously and what shouldn't. People saying it's a work of genius, intellectual masterpiece, or to not take it seriously don't help either. What I get from the end of watching it is that it's hilariously awful, not inherently, objectively bad, just hilariously awful.
On a side note, I need to watch more 70s-80s horror.

whoohoo guess what, I have to watch it, compulsory and stuff. My school's old boy's association thought this would be a great movie to bond the school together and everyone, even those who just graduated(like me) must go.
"It is not compulsory to attend, but you must buy a ticket."
oh thanks for giving me the freedom of choice

The reason I like it is for its purity of vision. When the demons show up everything goes to shit and it doesn't let up till the end. Just endless screaming and insane laughter with lots of bizarre gore. The acting isn't really the point, it's the situation.
Plus the direction and sound design is fantastic. There are lots of innovative camera rigs they invented on a low budget.
I think it's just one of those films though. If you have to take every film you watch as either good or bad as a whole then you'll have a hard time focusing with the dull acting. I'm used to shit like that because I watch a lot of badly dubbed Italian horror.

Just finished the book and can't wait to see the movie, have to wait till the end of the month where I live :( From the trailer I get the impression multiple characters are played by the same actor, is that true?

No doubt I appreciate technical creative aspects like the sound design and DIY camera rigs, but those alone can't make a movie for me.
I need to watch more of the Italian horror you're watching. I've seen Suspiria and it was super good all around.

Good Will Hunting - 7.35/10
Watched End of Watch earlier in the day. Damn that was a good movie. I went in thinking it would be an action movie and I was gladly mistaken. Such a great movie, very griping and pretty well written.
I just finished Empire of the Sun and holy shit. I don't like throwing out "this is X best role" awards but Christian Bale really fucked with my tear ducts in this movie. The entire cast was very strong in their roles and the story was so damn good.
You people need to watch both of them, like honestly.
Pitch Black - 8.5/10
Enjoyable. At least I couldn't put my eyes off it.
[sup][sup]Paris [sp]you stupid fuck[/sp][/sup][/sup]
Also, if I recall correctly, there's another movie which takes place in the same universe with Pitch Black. While Pitch Black is about darkness, that movie is about the Sun comes up and burns everything. What is the name of it? I'm guessing that that movie tells about Riddick's time while he was in the jail?
The Chronicles of Riddick but that one was lame
The Chronicles of Riddick but that one was lame
Why?
Can't remember anything except that Riddick's awesome way to break chains..

I wouldn't say it's bad, but Pitch Black to Chronicles of Riddick went from a antihero scifi to a superhero fantasy.
James Bond: Die Another Day 8.6/10
Well, so much for that. Got interrupted by my younger brother who wants to use the blu-ray player to watch a couple movies with his girlfriend.
FIRST HALF OF Fellowship of the Ring: 8.5/10
I feel like it really picks up when they go to the mines of Moria. From then on, the movies are pretty much perfect. It just needed time to get everything set up.
Fuck, and I still haven't watched them. Everyone I know's bitching at me to finally go and watch the LOTR trilogy, but I just don't feel like it :v: I have read the book though, so at least I'm familiar with the whole thing, I guess.

Ip Man 8/10. Damn good martial arts movie based around true events from the 1930s. Following a Kung Fu Master in the late 1930s. He was Bruce Lees trainer. Need I say more?
Friday the 13th (2009) waaay too many lens flares (Its a Michael Bay Movie) 5/10
The Shawshank Redemption (just a few minutes ago)
It's a goddamn 9.5/10, it's just so fucking good I can't believe I've never watched it before.
On to the 249 others of IMDB's Top 250.

shouldn't put full trust onto that list, try more of Darabont's movies.

Actually, the first 50 are pretty good. There's a few that I disagree with (like the Godfather, which I never managed to like), it's pretty much spot on. Anything after that becomes a bit flaky.
Currently watching Nordwand. It's a pretty good movie.

not what I meant...
I'm saying build your own list, that list isn't definitive. The reasons I like The Godfather aren't going to be why everyone else does, I find it soothing for example, tell me how many people would say that.
Seriously though, watch Green Mile.
Seriously though, watch Green Mile.
Already did, great movie too.
Had a lil' action movie marathon a week or so ago, watched three movies:
Die Hard 3: 6.5/10
A decent action movie, I guess. The plot wasn't much to write home about, and it wasn't nearly as good as the first movie (which I still think is amazing) or even the second. But hey, it had Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson. Can't go wrong with these guys.
The Expendables: 8.5/10
That's one of these movies you shouldn't take seriously at all. Great cast, awesome music (The Boys Are Back In Town during the end credits <3), loads o' explosions. The ultimate bro movie, pretty much.
The Transporter: 7.5/10
Always wanted to watch it, finally did. Jason Statham's pretty great, and I really liked that scene where he comes back to that house after his car goes boom and fights a bunch of guys: that was just great. Also the final highway chase scene with the trucks. All in all, a pretty nice movie, but in no way a masterpiece of cinematography.
Also, unrelated, but I really want to watch a good cyberpunk/dystopia/devastated near-future kind of movie. Any suggestions? (apart from Blade Runner, which I have already watched, and Total Recall, which I watched once a long while ago and want to do that again because I remember it being hilarious)
Fuck it. I'm watching all three extended Lord of the Rings movies today. Wish me luck.
I was planning to do this with the Jurassic Park trilogy soon. I love doing marathons, but my mind usually dies by the time I start the third film (which luckily, arguably, is the worst in the JP trilogy) :v:.
Fright Night (1985), 8/10.
A really nice film, one of my favourite horror films as I remember seeing the dripping bloody title at a young age and it's stuck in my memory ever since. I'm quite glad I was introduced to this previously, as when I first watched it I couldn't remember much besides from what I had just listed. It sorta came back to me a week ago and I watched it again, delighted.
The remake of last year however is really bland in comparison. It taken all of the charm and given nothing in return. The only character that stuck out to me was David Tennant's character, Peter Vincent. He did a pretty good job, stealing the show for me. His performance stood out certainly. Colin Farrell was good also as the vampire, and he was in a somewhat different role, not exactly something I'd see him portray. He still holds up and becomes an okay villain. The lead character Charlie was pretty boring and I remember him in Terminator Salvation having the same issue. I don't know what reason they chosen the kid from Superbad as somewhat of a sidekick and I thought he was pretty annoying. Everyone else isn't really worth mentioning. It was well made for the most part and I liked it's more grittier approach from the original to try and modernize it, but overall it's okay, entertaining but forgettable. Not something I'll remember for years to come. 5/10.

Huh, didn't know Die Another Day was considered so bad. It's a fun James Bond movie with the Ice palace and super satellite laser and shit, in my opinion. (Not to mention Halle Berry!)
Although I do admit a 8.6 is a bit high of a score for it.
