well, the time came.
Nolan's Batman film 3
I had to wait a long while for my expectations to lower to the point where if it did disappoint, that I wouldn't be disheartened.
Well... for shame it happened and it feels bad.
Pedantic emotion, a load of waffle filled with flying saucers, smoke and hot air is what I got. A lot of this movie was Bane distorting my speakers with his "EQ'd to death" voice. In terms of intensity... I'd say I felt similar to the level of when I watched Fast Five.
To be fair, this was a crisp film in HD. That crisp however was a gone off marmite flavour for the first half, then improved thereafter.
Review completed. pls forgive.

you are not doing yourself any favors here
It's Nolan's worst film, ambitious yes but lacks the integrity of the first 2.
Why didn't I feel any awe in this one? Because there was nothing TO really feel for. Please help me. :'-(
Wreck-it Ralph, best movie I've seen all year
The Bay - 8/10
A pretty good horror flick, I'd recommend it

I'd say Insomnia is his worst film.
TDKR is no where near that.
But, whatever.
Opinions and such.
Skyfall 007/008
This was my first James Bond movie (!), so I didn't really know much of what to expect going in; I would probably rate it higher if I knew more about the characters and background. Ah well.
I liked how Daniel Craig played a skilled hard/bad ass character who still had a good deal of humanity to him. Bardem absolutely hit it out of the park with his performance (between Silva and Chigurh, it's only a matter of time before he plays the Joker). The supporting cast also did great - they were kind of stereotypical (hotshot nerd, stern older lady, bearded elderly groundskeeper, etc) but had realistic humanity to them.
The plot was pretty good. I've heard it compared (unfavorably) to The Dark Knight - mysterious smiley villain allows himself to be captured, manipulates the heroes, and has goons everywhere - but to me it was much more "Dredd" vs "The Raid" and less "Taken" vs "Stolen". I loved the sets and shots - beautiful colors, artistic angles, fancy lighting, exotic locales. As with any techno-script, the 'hacking' scenes were kind of fakey but it didn't bother me much. I thought it was interesting how The List wasn't mentioned at all for the second half of the movie, but it doesn't really matter as it was just a macguffin to get to the heroes. I really enjoyed the soundtrack, but sometimes I wasn't sure if the beeps and bloops were part of the soundtrack or actually occurring in the movie. Also the opening credits scene was fantastic.
I thought it was funny that a movie making points about people being 'too old' for active duty was prefaced by trailers for Schwarzenegger and Willis movies.

Skyfall actually didn't require any previous films to understand. It's a complete story even without the other two Craig films.
As far as TDKR goes, I enjoyed it, but The Dark Knight was better. I felt the story and plot were more engaging in TDK, while Rises was kind of all over the place. They both cover a lot of content, but in the Dark Knight, you get the content in a neater and more natural progressive order, and it never looks back. Rises just jumps from one thing to the next and feels pretty cluttered in my opinion. [sp]Bane's motivation was somewhat lame too. I liked his strength and power over others, but in the end he was just doing it for a girl. As far as motivation goes Two-Face, the Joker, and Ra's Al Ghul were better.[/sp]
Just saw Lincoln - 10/10
Acting was terrific, especially Lewis and Tommy Lee Jones. No real complaints quality wise.
(minor spoilers) [sp]Was hoping to see Lewis give the Gettysburg Address, too bad. I'm also not sure why they chose to show his son in another theater when Lincoln got shot instead of the theater he was in. Seemed kind of odd to me.[/sp]
Fun With Dick and Jane
3.5/5
A harmless comedy. Did well to keep me entertained. Enough fun in it to stick true to its name, while still having an interesting enough story.
Jim Carrey was the highlight of course.
I don't know why it got such bad reviews.
is moonrise kingdom any good?
[editline]17th November 2012[/editline]
this probably isn't a very good page king
yes
The Dark Knight Rises - 8.25/10
Hard for me to say it's better than TDK, but I love it. The ending was well done. I agree with ZF on the neater thing, TDKR does feel cluttered storywise.
And re: Bane's voice. The tone doesn't bug me I love it, but his voice is mixed way too louder than everybody else's at times. It only sounds a bit ridiculous in the higher register lol.

I can't believe the Big Lebowski killed Uncle Ben.
skyfall
great villain, cinematography (i loved the lighting in shanghai mmm), Q was cool, and [sp]the numerous winks back the older films were awesome[/sp].
8/10
first proper good bond-film since goldeneye
safety not guaranteed
it was one of those nice little "indie" movies with a bit of a twist
I enjoyed it to an extent, although the ending was a bit cheesy
Major Payne (1995)
7/10
Original, funny comedy. Liked it a lot, protagonist was hilarious and lovable.
Psycho - 8.5/10
Yes yes yes, fucking awesome.
ParaNorman
cute, smart, really well animated, and a little more adult than expected
enjoyed a lot

Yeah but you have to tell me why that is. If there's no arguement for why I didn't get my natural Nolan fanboy experience then I'll say he's run out of steam.
I posted you my mini review, but you haven't explained at all why you didn't like it
so
I posted you my mini review, but you haven't explained at all why you didn't like it

okay read it..
Scale isn't my complaint at all. "Phenomenol spectacle", yeah I get all that. I already said I admired the picture quality.
That's NOT the reason the first 2 were superior; as I said, I didn't feel any awe for anything in this film. The reason this is, is due to something you even mentioned.. lack of character.
With no character we have flying saucers and hot air. Flashing lights.
They put Michael Caine in the background, they pushed all the main people away and didn't bring anyone into clear sight. Except maybe Joseph Levitt's character, who was actually pretty good ([sp]the mention of Robin ruined it[/sp]).
For a 3 hour film you'd expect some more breathing room for characters like Bane to develop. His character, again, gets pushed to the background with the most unsatisfying twist since M Night Shyamalan. He becomes a lesser meaningful character completely and a worthless villain.
I feel like the movie had a lot of character so I have no idea what you're talking about - if anything, Batman had much more of a character in this than he did in TDK. In Begins he was troubled and angry and shit and it's about him chanelling his rage or whatever it's been a while since I saw it. In TDK it was kind of the Joker's movie. But in TDKR it's about batman's redemption, dealing with all the terrible stuff he's caused, coming to terms with what he's become, being totally broken, and as the title implies, rising.
how you find no character in there is staggering. you might have a broken brain
If you'd care to explain how exactly he was "redeemed" I'd be happy.
Maybe he [sp]climbed a wall[/sp] or [sp]blew himself up[/sp]. :-)
[editline]18th November 2012[/editline]
Also you can talk about Hathaway's and Oldman's character if you want.
Maybe they don't matter. :v:

he put his pride aside and did what was right and [sp]literally saved everyone (and as far as they knew sacrificed himself, but really just sacrificed batman).[/sp]
he was also redeemed by oldman and everyone finding out he didn't kill anyone in tdk
are you being purposefully dense? did you even watch the movie ???
[editline]18th November 2012[/editline]
i think you might need to watch it a second time because apparently the film went over your head
