Speaking of Star Wars.
What the fuck even was the story in "The Phantom Menace"?
I've seen it like 2-3 times, and I still can't recollect what the point of the movie was.
settling a trade dispute
lol
[editline]21st February 2012[/editline]

ooohhhh.....
The only part in the prequels that you felt anything was when Ewan Mcgregor shouts out "YOUUUUUUU WERE THE CHOSEN ONE!!!!!!"
[QUOTE=TheFilmSlacker;34801180]You thinking The Phantom Menace is the best of the prequels?
[editline]21st February 2012[/editline]
Good to see another Red Letter Media fan.[/QUOTE]
the phantom menace is just the starting point of terrible, you could argue it's the worst in that it was the most disappointing. but it was all downhill from there.
too bad that's your opinion and not mine
[editline]21st February 2012[/editline]
I enjoyed the prequels
[editline]21st February 2012[/editline]

[QUOTE=Rusty100;34802365][vid]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1482927/movie.webm[/vid][/QUOTE]
how the fuck did you do that
one of the worst things about the prequels is how easily they could be fixed as well (p much all solutions mean changing the films entirely but that would not be a bad thing. fuck jarjar and anakin was a proper dick in all 3 films fuck him)
george lucas is a genuine idiot nowadays
[QUOTE=Zukriuchen;34598473]Star Wars: EP 1 - 5/10
Now that you guys said why it's bad, I can see your point. All the parts with Jar Jar Binks and Anakin feel like a kids movie, while you definitely wouldn't want some other parts in a movie for children. Maybe they tried to make a "movie for the whole family", but their approach was too abrupt. CGI overuse is another problem, I just can't shake that feeling of "why is jar jar such a horrible piece of computer generated crap instead of someone in a suit?", though I'll have to admit it, they did rather well with the new Yoda.
However, the movie does well, even if at VERY few times, when it manages to keep the feel of the original trilogy. I'd say that the first scenes, right before they land on Naboo, give a pretty good impression. The atmosphere was also good.
[editline]8th February 2012[/editline]
also, darth maul and liam neeson[/QUOTE]
this is what I think of EP 1
As for EP 2 and 3, the things that bother me are Anakin's horrible acting and all that emotional bs they included in it
"I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere."
[QUOTE=Rusty100;34803608]"I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere."[/QUOTE]
embarassing
uh whatever
[editline]21st February 2012[/editline]
but I honestly don't know why they thought it would be a good idea to have that actor as anakin
[QUOTE=Rusty100;34803608]"I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere."[/QUOTE]
sand is blates a metaphor for Anakin's character
Leonardo DiCaprio could have signed on as Anakin but he felt that he wasn't ready for blockbusters
I don't know how dicaprio would have done (definitely better than the one they chose), but it would have been interesting
Sideways 9/10.
Uplifting. I have a thing for movies where people embark on trips. Great performances from all the characters.
Recommended if you like to sit back and watch a relaxing movie.
Last few days:
The Deep End - 5/10
The Hurt Locker - 8/10
Slumdog Millionaire - 9/10 (i seriously thought this was going to suck)
Mr. Nobody - 8/10
How To Train Your Dragon: Gift of the Night Fury.
I'd say it was a damn good short. At only 20 minutes in length, I thought they put a surprising amount of effort into something people were going to write off as a shitty marketing attempt anyway. I can't really give it a numerical rating because...its a short. The animation was not nearly as good as the movie itself, but I think they definitely exceeded most people's expectations. It was funny, adorable, and the writing was solid.
It gives me hope for the future of the franchise. The quality of this short, and the fact that the sequel to the movie won't be seen for another two years (four years of production, at least since the last movie was released), makes me think it will be quality stuff, rather than just another cash cow franchise.
Anyone can recommend a good monster survival movie? Akin to The Mist or Cloverfield?

The Thing
collateral. 8/10
i don't like how it's shot. both the camera used and the style of the shots. it feels like a buffy episode or something, it's shot like a cheap TV show and has a camera they use for reality shows.
other than that i thought it was a really good film.

[QUOTE=KlaseR;34815782]The Thing[/QUOTE]
really? he probably knows that one.
go with the fog. it's like the mist but kinda lamer.
as for cloverfield go with [REC] (the spanish version). [REC] is basically the godfather of modern documentary style fiction horror along with blair witch project (like the film is recorded with a hand cam and what you are watching is what the characters recorded).
and if you haven't seen it, blair witch project is a good one too. it's like paranormal activity but not shit.
when i say godfather and all that shit i mean spearheaded it well into mainstream by giving JJ the inspiration for cloverfield.

I think that's kind of the point. All Michael Mann movies are shot that way and I think it gives it a more authentic feel, combined with all the actually believable action that his movies have.

I normally don't enjoy that kind of movie, but [REC] was really fucking good.
